Auto Ordnance, Inland Manufacturing (not GM Inland), and Fulton Armory make reproductions. The carbine fires a magnum pistol size cartridge, not a rifle cartridge. The M1 Carbine was not issued to GI riflemen. The issue battle rifle for GI infantry riflemen was the M1 Rifle that fires a rifle cartridge. This carbine was issued to rear echelon and support troops but not to infantry riflemen. There were also lever safety versions besides the cross bolt safety. There is also a rear take down screw behind the receiver that must be removed for take down.

This was definitely issued to infantry. That I can tell you.

It was definitely Gi, for the army it was mostly rear echelon troops, like mortar crew, truck drivers, etc., but in the pacific it was pushed into frontline service by the marines for sure
