But what did the government do before then to factor in public opinion? Nothing? Is the government even factoring in public opinion in the first place, or is that part just a modern illusion to make us feel like we can do something about it? And if our opinion is supposed to factor in, why don't they set up an SMS service, where we can just have upcoming bill info sent to us and then we text how we feel about it, and it's stored in a computer? Popular vote is not fair to people who are not urban, or are not part of the (even slight) majority. Nor is it fair to small states. Which is why we don't have a popular vote. the views of small states and non-urban areas matter in an electoral system. Unless every state had an equal population, and there was an equal split of all demographics, (urban, rural, etc) a popular vote wouldn't be fair. Someone living in a high rise, or in a suburban area, for instance, probably won't care too much about whether pipelines and trains can just take people's land for their own. However, you'd think that it would be common sense that people have to have a clean criminal record and undergo some basic gun safety training before being allowed to own one. Nothing too restrictive, just the equivalent of a driver's license for guns. Will it completely stop gun violence? Of course not, since the amount of violent crime in the US goes deeper than every idiot being allowed to purchase a gun. But it would, at the very least, reduce it.

We have a mental heath problem NOT a gun problem. if you help improve mental health you help more than just mass shootings- you help prevent suicides, homicides, rape, violent altercations etc. you try to pass gun control laws not only will they not work they WILL make America less safe. the shear number of guns in America means that anyone who wants a gun can find one. Liberals are retards, they favor ending the "war on drugs" because it hasn't worked but they want a "war on guns" Mexico has very very s stricked gun control where it is not legal for citizens to own fire arms- over 100,000 people died in drug cartel violence in the late 00's people literally could not go out of there homes becase armed gangs ran the streets.

We had the Dunblane Primary School shooting in 1996 and that was enough to lead to change. Common sense prevailed and we haven't had small children slaughtered by a piece of shit with a gun since then. We have terrorists bombing us and trying to tear our nation apart, but we don't have mass shootings - enough is enough, surely the people can see the need for gun control?

Events: 58 killed - October 1, 2017 - In Las Vegas, 64-year-old Stephen Paddock of Mesquite, Nevada, sprays gunfire on a crowd of 22,000 concertgoers from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, killing 58 people and injuring almost 500. Witnesses say the gunshots last between 10 and 15 minutes. Officers breach Paddock's hotel room to find him dead. Authorities believe Paddock killed himself and that he acted alone. 49 killed - June 12, 2016 - Omar Saddiqui Mateen, 29, opens fire inside Pulse, a gay nightclub, in Orlando. At least 49 people are killed and more than 50 are injured. Police shoot and kill Mateen during an operation to free hostages officials say he was holding at the club. 32 killed - April 16, 2007 - Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. A gunman, 23-year-old student Seung-Hui Cho, goes on a shooting spree killing 32 people in two locations and wounding an undetermined number of others on campus. The shooter then commits suicide. 27 killed - December 14, 2012 - Sandy Hook Elementary School - Newtown, Connecticut. Adam Lanza, 20, guns down 20 children, ages six and seven, and six adults, school staff and faculty, before turning the gun on himself. Investigating police later find Nancy Lanza, Adam's mother, dead from a gunshot wound. Only a few from a shockingly large list i found online

Ready for something absolutely depressing? We're in the middle of a pandemic that has claimed almost 135,000 US citizens. And we've still surpassed 2013 and 2014 for mass shootings in a single year. If numbers continue on trend (284 mass shootings in 191 days, average of 1.48 shootings a day), we will surpass 500 mass shootings by the end of the year. Beating last year's record by over 100 shootings.

Couple of things - The 2nd amendment was created in 1791, 150 years before Hitler. It had nothing to do with anything he did. If you have evidence to the contrary, please show it, but I could find nothing linking the 2nd Amendment in any way to Hitler's actions. It was created so that the people of the US could defend themselves against the government, but it's based on a world that looked much different than ours does today. Imagine creating a law today that is expected to manage weapons created 230 years from now. It's ludicrous. Even so, I (and most other people pushing for reasonable gun laws) are not attempting to destroy the 2nd Amendment. We simply want to make it more difficult for untrained 19 year olds with mental health issues and well known racist behavior to obtain assault rifles.

If germany had an equivalent of the second amendment the holocaust wouldn't have happened. " It was created so that the people of the US could defend themselves against the government, but it's based on a world that looked much different than ours does today." Right, and modern governments are far more terrifying than anything the founding fathers could have imagined.

Conservative principles in a nutshell: Ownership of guns is a constitutional right. Health insurance for victims of that right is a privilege.

Because you aren't entitled to own either, but you have the right to own both. Anyone should be able to get health insurance if they can afford it, anyone should be able to buy a gun if they can afford it.

"The Second Amendment is a doomsday provision, one designed for those exceptionally rare circumstances where all other rights have failed--where the government refuses to stand for reelection and silences those who protest, where courts have lost the courage to oppose, or can find no one to enforce their decrees. However, improbable these contingencies may seem today, facing them unprepared is a mistake a free people get to make only? once." Justice Alex Kozinski, US 9th Circuit Court, 2003

People are blaming the gun and not the user. Interesting... "A knife wouldn't have killed as many as a gun" said a protestor, why does that make any difference? It would have still killed children.... It would have still been awful.... In fact many would have been slaughtered slower, more painfully and required multiple attacks. :( A gun ban would have made no difference at all. I wish it could have, but sadly it wouldn't change anything. Guns don't have to be obtained legally by criminals. The crime was not owning a gun. The crime was murder. If a law suddenly came into play requiring USA all went to the nearest drop off point, to discard their guns. Would the criminals seriously do that? People who think a gun ban would change anything are insanely naive. The only people who would drop off their guns, are those who'd never use them.

24yrukdesigner Lets legalize nukes Then, it kills faster and no pain at All, at least in the impact zone.
@24yrukdesigner6 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure your everyday murderers have such easy access to nukes as knives, guns, fountain pens. What about home made bombs? They will do far more damage than a gun in a single instant. Ban all ingredients which could create bombs too? Worlds gone mad. Jon Oliver just adds to the politically correct insane.
@crowz62476 жыл бұрын
24yrukdesigner "What about homemade bombs?" If bombs were as easy for the average citizen to kill with as a gun, they'd all be using bombs. They're a lot cheaper to make than guns are to buy. But they don't. They use guns because they don't have to take the time to look up how to make one, strategically place it, then hope it goes off correctly and that people are actually around.
