Agreed so much! I've got physical disabilities and the way we were brought up, looking down at ppl who need whatever kind of aid... As if it's their fault!!! Wtf.! I wish I was born without defects/disabilities! I don't need my family to punish me for my situation 😢 I didn't ask for it. And they're FAMILY.. 😢 As if ALL OUR LIVES we're not getting enough problems along the way, with people bullying us. We need to pay double for not "fitting in".. They'd even go as far as saying I don't belong in my grandparents will for "what I am". According to them, I am getting enough other so called financial aid (I apparently don't deserve) that they don't get, because Im physically impaired, I do not need any extra inheritance money on top of what I'm getting for being just difficult. Even though I'm barely keeping myself afloat with the extra help I get in housekeeping. I have to admit, I do have cats, which with my inability to clean and vacuum every day, maybe I shouldn't have, but I can't imagine my life without them 😢 even though they're really taking up most of the space and work in my home. I am getting weekly help with cleaning my home thoroughly because I cannot always keep up myself. My family thinks I should get rid of the cats and not take up the time and effort of people cleaning for actual disabled people. And I am so grateful for the help, I am wondering if I should rehome my three cats. Which will be difficult, because all of them are rescues and require a certain level of care. I think I will ask my community cleaner, if she has the time and space to take them. It hurts to think to give them up, but I don't want them to live in a home with me where I can't give them what they deserve.

I never watch Fox News so I had no idea how batshit crazy it is. No wonder Fox News viewers are so detached from reality. I read an article about a guy whose father had always been a kind and empathetic man who never had a bad thing to say about immigrants, Muslims, people of color, etc. When this guys dad retired he got into the habit of watching tv most of the day. At first he would watch a variety of shows, but gradually he started watching Fox News more and more until it was the only thing that he was watching. Then he started listening to Rush Limbaugh and Alex Jones whenever he was in the car. This guy said that within a year of retiring his dad had been completely brainwashed by Fox News and similar media. He said that now his dad bitches about illegals taking jobs and collecting welfare, Muslims and Jews taking over the country, and referring to black people using the n word and saying that they have no respect for authority and ought to know their place. This man says that he doesn't even recognize his dad anymore. That's the danger of this kind of over the top media, regardless of its slant. They might throw in just enough real news to make themselves look legitimate, but the rest of it is fear mongering, hate mongering, and brainwashing.

The older they get the more they watch liberal news sources, cry about the state of the world, moan and complain about the government not taking care of them. My grandfather had never voted in his life and started voting democrat after he retired, started donating to democrat political campaigns and writing letters to senators. Is that proof of a particular trend? Not without supporting evidence. Speaking of opposing news sources as "brain washing" is pathetically disingenuous and misleading.

Kaylee, A very similar thing happened to my own dad. This was during the Obama/McCain election and he started to get very hostile to blacks. He even voted for McCain and when McCain lost he spouted all kinds of ugliness. We cut him off from watching Fox though and by chance an old black friend of his he used to work with came by to visit soon after. And he got a black dialysis technician who was a really nice dude and eventually gifted my dad with a blanket. Most of that anger that fox had programmed into him cleared up again eventually. MOST. I was helping him get in bed one day and he's talking about how nice one of our relatives is who's half black and half mexican and he says to me "You know meho... I dunno what I was thinking." "That's why we don't want you watching that news." I told him back. My dad was always a nice and intelligent guy and watching Fox turned him into an angry and childish person. It seriously brainwashes and polarizes people and it brings out the worst in them. They get mad and they believe and don't question the craziest bullshit. I honestly think it's very existence is hurting our country and I wish it could just be shut down. Unfortunately the people who are currently enslaved by it would raise hell if anyone tried. I wonder if a news agency could be charged with obstruction of justice?

@Rusty Mckee Except we don't live in a democracy. We live in a constitutional republic. Democracy is populism, majority rule which equals mob rule. No checks and balances that allow opposing minority views. Trump is pushing populism. His followers call themselves 'We the people' and call themselves the only true patriots. Right now the philosophy of Trumpism controls the Executive branch, both Houses of Congress, and a majority in the USSC. Whenever one voice controls all three sections of government it is considered tyranny. "The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, self-appointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny." ~James Madison, Federalist Papers, no 47
@ExPwner6 жыл бұрын
"Constitutional Republic" is a distinction without much of a difference. Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner. A constitutional republic is a legislature of 60 wolves and 40 sheep voting on what to have for dinner and passing a law that puts mutton on the menu despite a constitution saying that lambs cannot be eaten, with the Supreme Court of 5 wolves and 4 sheep deciding that mutton is not lamb. The above doesn't have to even be Democrats and Republicans. The shit that they agree on is often the most tyrannical.

While the actual investigation doesn't seem to be doing much, Trump and his associate's reaction makes the whole thing really fishy. I mean, if you were really sure about your innocence, wouldn't you just let the investigation run its course and point to the FBI and supporters of the investigation afterwards and say: "Haha, dumb FBI, Mr.Trump was right all along, he's great". The fact that they hate it so much kinda looks like they're purposefully trying to stop it if it uncovers something bad. We don't know how bad but judging form their reaction, pretty bad.

The sad part is how John Oliver is unwittingly aiding the President in undermining the Muller probe. He seemed desperate and people watching this video feel his desperation. They need to feel encouraged and hopeful. Who can give them hope? Not you, not me, not MSNBC and certainly not John Oliver.

It's great that we're making fun of the Sock Slider when it's marketed in sketchy infomercials to supremely lazy Americans; but let's remember that it was a device developed as an assistive device for people with actual disabilities, and just foisted on the rest of us as an afterthought.

I've worked in an office that keeps Fox news on all day for about a year now. It is mentally exhausting to continuously disarm all of their broken logic and emotional appeals. Sometimes their offenses are really egregious, but it's the little things that are the most frustrating. It's when they bend the truth juuuuuust a little, or they make an argument that's only partially flawed, or maybe they take a sound argument and also frame it in a way that gives it an extra edge. They are set up in such a way that makes it very difficult to bring up the flaw. It's like going shopping and getting charged an extra 3% on top of everything at the register without any notice. If it was an extra 80%, it'd be easy to refute and worth your time, but when they're small, they can just slip by. They are the micro aggressions of the logical fallacy world, and they are potent in high volumes. Fox isn't the only cable news network to have these problems, they're just one that I see a lot and is pushing a world view I don't agree with. It's easier to notice bad arguments making claims you disagree with, than to be critical of bad arguments arguing a world view you hold.That's why the reach and audience retention of these networks is so disheartening and exhausting. One of the weakness is of democracy is that you don't need to be a good option, you need a majority of people to believe you are a better option than any of the other choices.
@sunstripe856 жыл бұрын
Damon Ellis same, my friend. I try to be understanding of other viewpoints but there was one day i got so pissed off i burst out in a room of fox lovers, "I cannot FUCKING believe you listen to this bullshit! How can anyone stand it??" And then said i couldn't be around this and left. I felt so bad after because i hated to be rude to another's view but Fox was talking about the victims of the las Vegas shooting in a really terrible way while making everything about themselves being such smart people and Hillary Clinton being awful and i just HAD IT. i told my side of the office and they were all happy because my side is a lot more moderate or liberal, and i noticed that fox group was a little leery around me in the following weeks, going quiet on their political discussions when i entered the room. My coworkers thought that was great because they were tired of fox bs but i felt love an asshole... you can't really talk civilly with someone you yelled at for their beliefs. So i went out of my way to be nice until they loosened up around me again. But it's hard because fox is full of shit, and so are others, but fox acts like they aren't to the point that the viewers seem to believe it and that is extremely dangerous given their rhetoric

One of the problems would also be how the left is perceived these days, it's quite difficult to align with a political movement that has extreme social wing as well. one social / cultural change takes atleast a decade if not two, the rampant onslaught of demands of cultural revolutions by the Extremist left has , inadvertently, rendered the entire premise of the Left, I associate with it too, politically weak. You cannot tell a stranger they are wrong about everything, and expect that they won't put up a fight. Classic Cognitive Dissonance. Once you have tried to convince people more than you, their version of truth prevails, and you are fucked.

I think a lot of the problem with our country is that half of it doesn't watch any sort of news whatsoever. The closest thing some of my otherwise legitimately smart acquaintances get to news is Sportscenter. Of the half that actually keeps up with any kind of current events, about half of them watch exclusively Fox News and listen to conservative talk radio, where people get REALLY nutso. Of the quarter that listen to any other news sources, about half of them do it with any kind of critical mind. Thus, if politics does come up in a conversation, most people are either too ignorant to have an opinion, or are the equivalent of scared cheerleaders parroting whatever garbage political opinion their parents had.
@Kevin-yw5qr6 жыл бұрын
The country is doomed, there is a serious propaganda machine pumping at full force. It reminds me of that frog in boiling water metaphor, this insane bullshit that we are seeing did not exist 10 years ago, at least not nearly at the capacity it does now, but it has been slowly and gradually getting more extreme and the uneducated sheeple, who endlessly talk about how alert they are against the "deep state" are quite literally getting swallowed alive by what appears to be an actual "deep state". Rich powerful people, the owners of these networks and the GOP are pushing this narratives really fucking hard, and as the video showed, the thoughts are getting implanted in these "critical thinkers" minds and they repeat it without a second thought. Soon Infowars will be the new norm and FOX news will be talking about the gay frogs rigging the elections for the DNC FBI liberal space militia.

That is one thing I've never understood. The whole argument "What have they found? Nothing!"... Just because an investigation hasn't shared anything with the general public on a specific topic, doesn't mean they haven't found anything. It just means they are waiting with what they have found to put it all together to make sure they have all the information needed to move forward. Don't people know how investigations work? They never share their information until they are ready to press charges.
@ExPwner6 жыл бұрын
Yet leftists are convinced that there is evidence and claim that there is without presenting it. That's what those people on the right are tired of hearing. No, you don't yet have it. The only thing correct here is that that isn't a reason to stop investigating if there is something wrong. Investigate and the truth will come out.
@Bradgilliswhammyman6 жыл бұрын
Mob bosses are also difficult to charge because they have lots of underlings to do their work. There is a reason it is " organized crime", the top people are insulated, and investigations take time.

James Adams, whether or not "leftists" are convinced there is evidence has nothing to do with my comment. It's just about how investigations work. Investigations don't just come out and start showing what they have until they are ready to press charges. That's just not how investigations work. You don't know whether there is anything or not just as much as I don't know.
@ExPwner6 жыл бұрын
I agree that it is how investigations work. I'm providing you with the reason why these people are upset and saying that there is nothing: because right now there is nothing in terms of the collusion conspiracy theory with respect to Trump. And again, I'm not opposed to them digging in. I'm just telling you why they feel that way. They've been bombarded by those on the left telling them that the evidence is in when it isn't.
@jessicalee3336 жыл бұрын
The investigation has indicted 20 people, several of them have pled guilty, and Trump's son intentionally, as a representative of Trump's campaign, met with someone he thought was a representative of the Russian government and the Russian government's "efforts to help Trump" to get "dirt" on Clinton, which would be illegal - and he admitted it publicly. At least one of the other people at that meeting has been indicted and pled guilty. "The investigation has found nothing" is JUST A LIE. That's all it is. A lie. A false narrative, designed to muddy the waters and make the public skeptical - did you even watch the video? I feel like I'm just explaining the video again.

The sock thing makes me wish he'd talk about infomercials. There's this pattern that most of them take where people act like buffoons to seemingly justify why You Need [Product They're Selling], and this tactic is considered a necessary evil to market what are actually accessibility devices. It'd be nice if companies realized they could actually show the intended function and who the real audience is, as well as show additional uses for a wider demographic if it truly is an accessible multipurpose tool, without humiliating the people that can't get by in the scenarios they present. Ex: the sock thing is probably meant for people with limited movement in their legs, but it's just being marketed as a Lazy Toy for people who "don't want to bend over." *Can't* is likely more apt.

I think, at least for me, youtube acts as condensed written news (with things like “The Philip Defranco Show”, or “Some News”) Also for some news (such as foreign news, like middle east, you can also get news directly from journalists with boots on the ground via Twitter or their other social media.

@DonnaBrooks5 жыл бұрын
The thing is... the people watching Fox Noise, listening to right-wing hate radio, only associating w/ others who believe & repeat the same propaganda & following Trumputin & his apologists on Twitter probably don't even know there have been 5 guilty pleas, much less over 20 indictments. Remember, no one tells them facts. They just tell them anything that glorifies the GOP & demonizes the Dems. You'd think that people would be suspicious when only one side is presented on a network that's "fair & balanced", but that's why they are effective. They claim to be fair & balanced, & then give pure propaganda instead of news & accuse real news outlets of bias when they present facts. GOP leaders accuse Dems of doing what they are actually doing or have been doing. The GOP can obstruct everything Obama tried to do, but if the Dems try to stop even the most egregious violations, abuses of power, or bad decisions of Trumputin, THEY are being unreasonable & uncooperative. This is a scary time for this country b/c of the numbers of people who believe these crazy conspiracies, lies, & propaganda. "Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities." - Voltaire

Tzvi Krasner The Federal indictment of Russian military intelligence officers proceeded in the full knowledge that those named will not be presenting themselves for trial in the United States. An equivalent situation would be the Russians indicting CIA personnel stationed in Virginia. You'd hardly expect the American government to agree to their prosecution. (The CIA wouldn't even allow their overseas staff to stand trial in Italy a few years back when they left a huge trail during a kidnapping operation.) Those indictments are an expedient meant to palliate the appetite for some form of action against Russia. As for the guilty pleas, they involve ordinary financial crimes and perjury unrelated to the principle assertion underpinning the investigation, that Trump conspired with Vladimir Putin to corrupt the 2016 presidential election. Now that Mueller has reported his findings and declined to indict anyone in the "Russia-gate" story, it would seem a good time to admit we've all witnessed an episode of mass hysteria generated by malign forces in the media and on Capitol Hill.

kind of unrelated to the whole point of the video but that sock slider gadget is probably really useful for those who have disabilities
@khm89106 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but think about it, they have to pick the thing up, set the sock up, then put it back on the ground.
@jg23236 жыл бұрын
A bit late, but this actually is useful depending on your disabilities. They may lack the fine motor control or strength to try to force the sock up their leg for example. Another example is the Sammons Preston Pour Thing. It's basically a tilting thing you stick a gallon of milk in, and then you can tip it to pour the milk. Any average person obviously doesn't need this. But a disabled person who may have difficult holding a full gallon of milk still while they are pouring this can be very helpful for. They may be strong enough to lift the bottle, but actually pouring without making a mess may be beyond them. Gadgets like these can help older and disabled people maintain independence when they otherwise can't do things for themselves. Many gadgets that have use in the disabled community started off as TV gimmicks like this and found a different audience who can actually use them.
@Bookworm87936 жыл бұрын
It's not even just that TV gimmicks have been useful to people with disabilities, but that a lot of infomercial products are designed specifically for people with disabilities and just not marketed that way because it's not big enough business to justify production. But able-bodied people won't buy "disabled stuff", so instead of showing actual disabled people in the commercials, they show able-bodied people making a mockery of disabilities and leave it to the viewer to go, "Okay that's stupid, but actually that would be super awesome for my sister."
