Nraug Hmoob Ntsuab - MiMMX (Official Lyric Video)

Dear friends and family,
I hope you all grab your favorite people, sit down, and enjoy my official audio, “Nraug Hmoob Ntsuab”.
A LOT of things influenced me to write my song the way it is, and the language as is, such as the Hmoob Dawb and Moob Leeg dialects. I acknowledge that Moob Leeg and Hmoob Ntsuab are both different and are used differently, but in my experience growing up, “it depended on who you asked.” I wrote this song to show what it felt like as a Hmoob Dawb girl who grew up thinking that the world was just Hmoob Dawb and Hmoob Ntsuab because “everybody” said so including the media, politics, and elders who told the folktales to me. When I got older and became more exposed to our culture and interacted with more Moob Leeg folks who spoke fluently, I began to use Moob Leeg in my vocabulary. Through this song, I wanted to show that in this Hmoob Dawb girl’s life, she’s confused and heartbroken as to why her lover left her, while also navigating her identity and the Hmong culture at the same time here in America. Growing up, I never knew much. When Hmong people would say “educate yourself”, it was mostly through passive aggressiveness. I also want to acknowledge that our community had historically depended on oral history to learn about our past. History becomes a mystery for many, and traumatic for others. This song isn’t to perpetuate any harm or discrimination. The art is to tell a story from a perspective of a bigger picture.

I can’t find the right words to fathum how beautiful and artistic of a song this is… The melody, the vocals, the build up, the instruments, the guitar solo, the emotions, the story telling, the bpm, a perfect pace to set the tone. I was losing my mind listening to this song from start to end! And then you hit us with a couple green lines at the end to top it all off?! Saying you learned green in hopes and questions of continuing the love story?! NO YOU DIDN’T! 😭 It was like watching your team hit a buzzer beater to win the game. No way you just did that! Beautiful song, and I do feel sad that this still exists today. I'm white and married my green husband, but I am truly grateful he and my parents (in laws) never once made me feel different from them. They always say, "We're all Hmong". They're so loving and never once forced me to speak green. They told me I could speak either. Whatever is comfortable for me. My parents on my side never made my husband feel different, too. They all say "as long as we love each other, they're happy". I do hope that our Hmong people will change and love everyone the same.

Wow my soul! ❤ I got teary at the end! I'm hmong white and also married into hmong green family. I'm glad my inlaws accepted me as who I am but there was always the pressure and encouragement to learn their dialect. Living with them til this day, I've learned alot in their differences of dialect and culture itself. And I say I've learned enough to speak the bare minimum 😅. Love your music and voice! The ending was pretty good. My sister married a Hmong green. I didn’t know as my brother-in-law always spoke Hmong white when he visited her. Eventually, she picked up the dialect and would unintentionally speak it to me where I let her finish before telling her I could guess what she meant but I didn’t understand the rest. Her in laws are fine but I did hear story like this growing up.
