I gotta say i love that Willie recognised what a straight up dog Luai is playing with the bad shoulder and trying to make it though the GF while the media try to paint him as the bad guy. Luai has been so integral on this 4 year run but haters gonna hate!

@@leshgooo1016 100% man! I'm all for fans of the game having their favourite/non favourite players, it's part of the game but when the media perpetuate this bias vitriol against players and specifically Luai it just becomes unnecessary. I love what he does for the Riff, he does what Draymond Green does for the Warriors in terms of bringing the energy and being that guy for the team. Love that new media, like this podcast keep it legit and real, instead of some other forms of media that seem to have an agenda.

FACTS! Luai is a clown at best LOL but when push comes to shove, Luai is that guy! him and other integral players have helped Penrith become the team that they are today! And big ups to the coaches training up the juniors to be the best club

100% Luai has been a huge part of that team! cleary has had his fair share of injuries throughout the seasons.. and Luai has stepped up everytime he needed to.. and when cleary returned Luai went straight back to his supporting role, never over plays his hand, and knows exactly when to feed his edge.. That origin game where nsw won by 50.. Luai took the pressure and made sure Latrell and To'o got clean ball early to do their thing.. Under rated and most hated lol but he seems to thrive on it lol

52:40 it wasnt just that. penrith for 60 minutes didnt even LOOK like scoring a try, they got one try that was just a fluke. they were probably the better team for much of the game in terms of winning the grind but were offering little in attack. the broncos had 6 linebreaks to 0!!! it looked like the broncos were about to pump them by 40!!! the panthers were that much on the backfoot it was ridiculous. for nathan to turn that around and win them the game with just sheer relentless will is unbelievable

I'm glad you boys liked my suggestion about a ratings system. When you look at Edwards, who probably missed a few games only and averaged between 7-9 every week he would finish the season with something like 200 points where as Kaylan might have got 90 points during the 10 game streak they went on and only 60 points in the other games he played with 7-8 he didn't play meaning he would finish with 150 and most likely finish about 10-20th in the player of the year. Guys like Walsh if they have a blinder will always have more of an impact on a game but someone like Reynolds could steer the team perfectly, kick perfectly, make his tackles, feed his centre's, kick his goals and get a 9 without doing the special things but execute his role perfectly. Same with a Cam Mcinnes, he could make only 80 run meter's but with 60 tackles, no misses, huge effort areas and get a 9 just like Hynes who might get 1 try and 3 assists in the same game.

Final try is over/under appreciated from every commentary I've seen. It was proper set up by the 2 plays beforehand. Hit the same blokes in defence that Nath ran past, fatigue on fatigue! Which panthers had been doing all year. The up n in defence from the edges a significant ploy to rattle panthers attack was very evident in the first 10 rounds this year, to counter that came the turn under mentality. Cant believe zero footy media identified this! Just shows they only care about the flash n flare to get views. The reason Panthers been so successful is they made a game of doing the 1% mundane important things right.

I guess the Broncos didn’t read the memo where the Panthers have came back from 14 down against Storm or the Roosters. They scored 3/4 tries in 17mins too. Broncos Reece Walsh had no business being in a GF. He’s the reason they lost. The Panthers knew he was the weak one and went after him.

What he's done with Penrith for sure, but he did it at the warriors, built them up all the way to a gf and if he'd stayed (stupidest decision the warriors made by not offering him a longer contract) they may have gone up another level and gone on their own run.

@themanwithnothingtolose
@themanwithnothingtolose 9 ай бұрын
The comp was a farmers league before the Salary Cap was introduced. Before the Salary Cap was introduced, the competition was only won by a handful of teams. Mostly the dragons, Rabbitohs and Roosters. It isn't how it is now where every team has a equal chance of winning. Even winning a Premiership 2 in a row is hard enough because once a team wins the comp their players will want a pay rise because they've proven themselves to be the best in their position, but the club can't afford to give them that while remaining under the Salary Cap so the club is forced to let go of players and other teams swoop in to sign them. hence 1998 until the roosters 2019 no team has ever won the comp 2 years in a row. It took sharks 50 years to win it because they weren't one of the "Big Teams" back then. That is why this is such a big achievement because Penrith have established one of the best youth and scouting system where they can afford to lose their star players and can replace them easily. The only team that did this and came close to this was the storm when they went to 4 consecutive grand finals (06,07,08,09) and won 2 (07,09) however they were caught cheating the cap

Hey Guys love the podcast, super objective, also love that its not super spine centric ! Here is a question, I know the idea of a draft is a swear word in rugby league but what are your thoughts if you could create a draft system to distribute talent without robbing clubs who have really solid pathway systems ? e.g. A player who doesnt have a top 30 contract, or a player coming from super league can enter the draft - players drafted have a minimum and maximum $$ value on a fixed term (2 years) these players dont impact the salary cap ? Its a punt but you might find a roughy that turns into the next big thing without speculating your salary cap !

In regards to the dally m. How does Ivan Cleary not been coach of the year after 202? 3 minor premiership s and 3 premiership sin a row. With the players and the coaching staff that has lost, is a remarkable achievement. Yet still isn’t coach of the year. Really? And Im a luckless Parramatta fan, but a league fan as well and you have to give credit where it is due. If you coach a team to a premiership, then back it up to another grand final. Then IMHO there can only be one coach of the year. But alas there are way to many agendas in the game today.

Here's some fun facts for ya, Cleary has won 3 origin series, out of those 4, TECHNICALLY you could say Lockyer was a part of 4 origin series wins by the same age, but with 2 of those series as draws, and especially one of the series he ONLY played in the drawn game, yeah I'm only giving him 2 series wins. 3 each for the other 3, same as Cleary. And they probably had better players in their origin teams than what Cleary has in his teams. Cleary has more state of origin points than smith and Thurston combined when they were at the same age (same with NRL points..... seeings how Thurston is all time origin point scorer and smith is all time NRL point scorer, this is pretty damn impressive) At the same age those 4 have 4 state of origin man of the matches, 1 apiece. Cleary has 2. Let's not even get into the fact that Cleary would have 4-5 series wins if refs could do their jobs properly. Cleary has unluckily been getting injuries around state of origin time which isn't helping him. And he still has better numbers than any of those 4. Any talk about Cleary not performing for state of origin is such a load of shit. Let us not forget that if he didn't have an injury for game 3 2021, Cleary would have destroyed qld for 3 games in qld in the 1 series. All these morons love to forget about that one. The only thing that stops Cleary from eventually being the undisputed greatest of all time is injuries. He is even ahead of smith at the moment for NRL games played at the same age. And that SHOULD be a record that NOBODY breaks because it is absolutely fucking ridiculous, the amount of luck smith had with avoiding serious injuries in his career is actually unbelievable

I wonder if assigning someone like Gal as coach who has relevance to the current crop of blokes and maybe get an assistant in cordner who are both recent ex captains? Love to hear the thoughts. Awesome poddy lads. Do you think the international eligibility rules should change to allow coaches of national sides the ability to build up a team for the world cup? Instead of every year, maybe make it so players can only change allegiance every 2 or 4 years? Making it yearly seems to benefit the bigger nations more as they can select players on form, leaving the smaller nations to have the "leftovers" Keep up the good work lads.

I don't know why no one is talking about the short dropouts and kickoffs killing Brisbane? What is with this new culture of going for the short drop out no matter what the score is? You knew it was coming because the commentary box, Billy and Joey in particular, would be like "Oh they have to go short here" and it would be like "... why? they're up?" (or it is still early in the first half or whatever). And sure enough, it absolutely is the reason they lost, Cleary brilliance and heroics aside. The decision to do unnecessary short drop outs and kickoffs gave the panthers about 14 points at least.

He had NSW going pretty damn good. qld in those days should have whitewashed NSW year after year after year (especially with the absolute piece of shit NSWmen inglis and folau playing for the wrong state which never should have been allowed. Because you will get tactical vote bias. For example, if Knights vs Warriors was one of the last games of the season, and Ponga and SJ were favourites to win Dally M. The opposing coaches will be incentivised not to give points to those two players cause they want their player to win.

Yes that’s fair to say I think because the Dragons team that won 11 in a row had several immortals and that dominance is amazing, even considering it was a 10 team comp and there was no salary cap they were still undeniably great and basically owned the comp… Still, for consistency of winning games and rarely ever losing games even when we could have afforded a loss, our last 4 years in itself is right up there with the greatest ever 4 year period. 85% win rate is ridiculously good and very few teams in rugby league or any sport really, can match that kind of record. Sports like basketball talk about win % more than rugby league and our win % is up there with legendary teams like Chicago Bulls with Michael Jordan. Hard to compare such different sports but basically I’m saying that our win % in itself proves we’re a great team.

Best team ever ?! That's laughable. There were two incidents which the ref ignored that would have been a send off and a penalty try maybe. We all know which team lost out with that.Add to that the Broncos made a LOT of mistakes at perfectly the wrong time. Penrith didn't but had no answers when the Broncs were on a roll. The occasion was a steep learning curve having never played a grand final. Yet all the Panthers could muster up was a late rally when the Broncos went to sleep and ended up TWO POINTS in front !!! LOL That ain't no dynasty boys. Great team great coach good win but spare us the whaffle because the young Broncs will be WAY better for their mistakes next year.

It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish. That is what separates good teams from great teams and Penrith is one of those great teams. They know how to close out a game when under pressure. At the end of the day, it’s the team that wants it the most and that was the Panthers. Broncos will defs learn from this and run it back 2024’.
