Used the AR-15 as personal arm during my National Service in 1970s. Few people would remember that there was a heavy barrel version (AR-15 HB) for sustained auto fire, used as a section support weapon way before the Ultimax SAW came along. I swear that the AR-15 had never jammed on me during my 2 1/2 years in NS. Also used the Car-15 (carbine version) during my days as an armoured combat engineer. The M-16 and ultimax only came along during my reservist training a decade later.

Good times. I was trained on the SAR21 during BMT but was issued the M16 in my unit. My training rifle was an M16 but my issued rifle was and AR-15 with no forward assist. Some of us had the bird cage flash hider and some had the three pronged Vietnam era flash hider. I preferred the M16 over the SAR21 because it was lighter and easier to clean.

@ArchDrake10 ай бұрын
I was one of the last batches of NSF to use the M16 during BMT (2006), and then transitioned to the SAR-21 in my SISPEC days. Yes, the SAR-21's scope made normal range day easy-mode, but there is something more satisfying about hitting targets with well-zeroed iron sights. And to be honest, I HATE doing IA drills with the SAR-21 due to the bullpup design as I have to push the rifle forward more to look into the ejection port, whereas the M16 only needed a quick-tilt to the side for me to see inside while I can continue to work the charging handle to clear stoppages.
@youtuberschannel126 ай бұрын
What you said was easy. The worse is trying to lock the bolt to the rear to clear double feed while in prone! Awkward and super bad ergonomics as fuck. SAR-21's weapon manipulation and ergonomics is the worse in the world.

@superfamilyallosauridae6505 Жыл бұрын
It all depends on what you want out of the function check. Weapon on safe Pull the trigger, hold Weapon should not fire Weapon on semi Pull the trigger hold Should hear a click Charge the weapon without releasing the trigger Release the trigger, should hear a clunk Weapon on Burst Pull the trigger, hold Charge the weapon three times without releasing the trigger Release the trigger, should hear a clunk is what USMC taught me on M16A4 (which has burst instead of auto). I don't know what the Singaporeans would do, anyways we never timed function checks, we did those carefully. When we time assemblies/disassemblies for fun we don't do function checks as part of the time. No idea what the SAR-21 function check is like but either way, it should be pretty similar. I think the man just kinda forgot a bit after all those years.

Annoying design...Terrible gun for people with short arms... Reloading is also a problem, how to reload this gun without pointing the gun upwards.
@youtuberschannel126 ай бұрын
Exactly, the length of pull is too long. The people who designed this weapon are obviously civilians without military experience. They never account for the thickness of the LBV and when shouldered over the LBV, the length of pull is too long. You're right about reloading. It's the worse to reload when in prone position. The gun so heavy and the length of pull is so long. You have to hold up the whole rifle with 1 hand when reloading in the prone position.

Since M16S1 is part of the AR-15 family. The Singaporean Army can purchase a bunch of M4 or any other flat top upper receiver and replace the butt stock with a collapsible one. I don't know about you, but I don't hold the M4 as the pinnacle of AR-15. That title belongs to HK-416, LMT MARS-L and Canadian C7/C8
@superfamilyallosauridae6505 Жыл бұрын
@@rizaradri316 HK416 causes tons and tons and tons of problems. MARS-L is quite nice, and the monolithic Colt Canada C8s are quite nice. I can go into more detail on the hK416 if you want, but in USMC that weapon causes nothing but trouble, it's heavier than all its competitors. It only became popular because it was one of the very first free floated fully railed rifles available. M27s entered USMC service at like 650rpm on full auto M27s and M38s, now, have a 1400rpm rate of fire when suppressed and using the service ammo (M855A1), weigh as much as XM7, and are mathematically proven to be the least reliable rifle ever fielded by the US Marine Corps, with a mean rounds between failure of 40ish in the M38 tests. That's a failure in every mag! I can find videos on youtube, like six of them, of suppressed M27s misfiring, and when charged they spit out an unfired live round and just kinda start working again. Totally unacceptable. A bizarre weapon that is almost perfect in vague details but, in specifics, is terrible.
