NS, IORY and Amtrak In Dayton, Ohio Area - 1998

From 12/06/1998: These were the first trains I shot with my then-new Canon ES870 camcorder. A friend and I ventured out on a 60 degree day, to see what we could on the CR Cincinnati Line between Dayton and Springfield. NS 180 was stopped under I-70 at Enon Rd with a high hood leader and four Amtrak F40PHs that were in transit. This is followed by eastbound I&O 261 on the main, passing CP 190. The final scene is a brief shot of its counterpart I&O 260, westbound along Springfield Street in Riverside. The footage has its extra shaky and awkward zoom moments, but I was getting the feel of the camera.

Forgot about NS leasing those F40s for the high speed intermodals. They didn’t last long and were sent packing.

Those F40s might have indeed been leased by NS at time, not just in transit.

I think you are correct. I cross-checked the numbers, and I think most of the ones shown here were either scrapped or out of service.

I guarantee if someone saw that first lash up in model form people would get their knickers in a tit about it "not being prototypical"... but It seems like just about anything that could happen has probably happened
