@JawTooth Definitely, it’s my favorite section just because of how unique it is. This coupled with some of the track dating back to 1910 this is one unique little branch line!

Good morning!! I just ran across this video last night. I was born and raised less than a mile from these tracks and that restaurant. Spent 58 years in this town and it was, for the most part, great. Even though this would be considered a very short line,, NS still goes back and forth on it supplying coal and concrete to 2 customers. they used to drop off center beams to Fitch Lumber company. That has stopped. Hope I can come back and visit this spring sometime and just maybe catch the train in my home town again. Very nice videos, Sir. Brings back a lot of good memories. BTW, that is VERY old track. Hope you all have a very blessed day!!
@TheTriangleRailfan15 күн бұрын
@bigmansr7 Thank you very much! I will say that sadly the concrete plant is no longer rail served but, some of that old rail you are talking about definitely still exists. I have found some track dating back to 1910 and the majority seems to be from 1925!

It’s incredible to see a GP60 switching this branch line. These locomotives were bought in 1991 for use in intermodal service, including road railer service.

0:53 That is totally bizarre that anything, let alone a locomotive, can go out that far on a track that literally dead ends with no signs. NOTE: I saw the comments below; I figured that this line used to go a little farther than there. Nice video!

Not much in the way of continuity or knowing what is actually happening. What are the customers? What are the loads? In or Out?
@TheTriangleRailfan15 күн бұрын
@MarkNeiting Only one customer left which is the UNC Cogen Plant. Coal loads come in and leave empty and Coal Ash Hoppers (The white covered hoppers) come in empty and leave full. Seeing how popular this video was I hope to make a more detailed video on the operations on the line!

@FlipperGames505 P07 runs in once or twice a week depending on how busy the university is but the days on which they run fluctuate all the time. The most common time I’ve found is Tuesday around 10am. Hope this helps and happy hunting!
@FlipperGames50516 күн бұрын
@@TheTriangleRailfan alright I could try. Usually it's only one engine they take out of east durham then that potentially gets reassigned onto P20 later on or a PU01 switcher another day.

Damn, you come out of that siding a little too fast on the runaround and you're in the dirt. No wheel stops, sign, nothing.
@bigmansr715 күн бұрын
That's because that track in front of the restaurant did not stop there. It serviced 2 woolen mills further down and behind Main Street. That was a very long time ago. The bar across the street was called The Sidetrack, for a good reason. Don't know if it is still there. Looking left from the restaurant track, is a big woolen mill building called Carrmill Mall. The tracks used to go in back of that building also.
@carolinarailfanning14 күн бұрын
Yea I figured it used to go further, I live in an area with a lot of abandoned spur. It's sad that all these industries moved to trucks when the trains are right there.
