So what happens when they have a car that they cant hump? do they just shove it down to rest holding on to everything else?

Can't speak specifically about _Bellevue,_ but at other humps which I am more familiar - inbound adjacent empties headed for the same bowl destination track can often be let go coupled together in multi-car groups, while loaded railcars are almost always cut loose as singles. Again, don't know if that is the case here, but suspect it has to do with the current weight or loaded/empty status of each given railcar.

It may have something to do with the automated braking system, multiple loaded cars hitting at once could wear down the system more rapidly and possibly fail to slow the cars down before they hit the consist

Is this Bellevue, OH? I've driven by that yard a couple of times. I could not find a safe, legal and photogenic viewing spot.
