In 1976 The Rand Corporation included NS Savannah in a collection of case studies on various government projects, and they provide an excellent overview of the entire NS Savannah program. www.rand.org/content/dam/rand/pubs/reports/2006/R1927part1.pdf

The construction of the physical envelope, the non-nuclear elements of the propulsion, and all of her subsystems were begun before work in building the hull in 1958.

@MrShobar It's called a work ethic that nothing is free especially from the government from the welfare class! A no free cheese from the Government, No SNAP ethic if you want to eat you get a job and earn it, don't sit on your lazy ass and expect the Socialist Democratic Party to provide for you! As far as myself I work myself through school no govt. Hand out and providing the Money(NOT RESOURCE) Dems can't say money! for a better education which led to a better job with a major airline! These welfare liberal brats are spoiled communist today and its time to shove them out mama's and Dems. door to fend for themselves! Does that partially answer your socislist entitlement question!

To be fair, whilst the attitude is a bit over the top, the sky is kind of falling.

Why was it taken out of service? Public was fearful of Nuke or foreign ports rejected it ?

Also containerized cargo is starting to take hold and cargo ships like this take a long time to load and unload versus container cargo

It's a shame that these old historical films haven't been remastered and clean up, they look like shit the way they are.

@@ShipHistory I can't, I'm disabled on a fixed income, it's criminal what I get. I was a teacher until I got sick. You should have you a good edit bay with some good software, there is a lot that can be done. One thing would be to scan the film into 1440p, that 480 is too low for today's standards. SInce the color has shifted really drastically, it might make it look it better is if it was in black and white. Anyway I do wish all the old films could be remastered and saved.
