I'm 72 years old, crying like a baby at the beauty these young adults are portraying.

Beautiful. This piece of music is a national treasure. I only "discovered" last year & listen to it frequently. Boy!! Have I been missing out on such beauty. (Almost 68, wish I'd heard this years ago). ❤

Indeed. I first heard this piece while watching Ken Burns' Civil War series some years ago, during which it accompanied several scenes. The most memorable for me was when it was played to the reading of MAJ Sullivan Ballou's farewell letter to his wife. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4euYn6Zj9R3q5I

You may like the music of Kim Angelis since you liked Ashokan Farewell. Her special gift seems to be for slow compositions, but she has written and performed some nice 'faster' pieces too. I think "Esperanza" is her best album. Here's a sample: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKOmf2Suo9eYhsU

This piece was the background for the reading, in Ken Burn 's Civil War a letter that a Civil War soldier wrote to his wife back home some days before he was killed. His name was Sullivan Ballieu. He wrote about how he would always be with her and their children, even he died. It is a letter about love never dying.

@@EricRoss57 The song was the exact music to put true feelings to the series. Educated people as to how it was such a sad moment in our history. And more over the humanity of those lost.

To hear Jay's masterpiece played by such an accomplished ensemble is heart warming. Who ever thought that a "kid"(Jay Unger) from the Bronx(NYC) could achieve such beauty.

NSHS is located in Carrollton, Texas. The term senior orchestra would refer to the fact that they are older and have more experience. So it follows that there is also a junior orchestra.
