NSX-T Fundamentals: Configuring VyOS in my VMware NSX-T Homelab

This video explains how I use #VyOS - an open-source router and firewall platform - in my nested #VMware #NSX-T #homelab environment as my Top of Rack router. It provides routing between my VLANs with first-hop routing redundancy, BGP, OSPF, and so on.

Thanks Jeffrey, perfect I setup the vyos router in my home lab, have three esx hosts but I have nested three esx hosts i created they can now see the network traffic on a different subnet, all i have to do is created another vcenter and a DC to look after the nested servers, before i have a go at NSX install hope that is right Top Video !!!

hey Jeffrey,I wonder to configuring a static router for vsphere vms.A vm host ip is 210.28.165.1/24,another vm host ip is 210.28.166.1/24,I hope two vms can communicate by vyos,then I want to set the gateway is 210.28.165.254/24 and 210.28.166.254/24.How can I config my vyos? appreciate for answer!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for such a great video. I noticed that your NSX segments show up as NSX Logical Segments on the vSphere Distributed Switch while mine show up on the Opaque Network, what configuration am I missing?

Hello, thank you for your video. For my case I can not ping from esxi to other vm in admin vlan. This vm installed in physical esxi. Is it normal? Or I need to tagg admin vlan in the os of esxi

Are you using the LTS version of VYOS? I know they have a few options where you get access to the ISO's if you contribute to the project also I think you can build your own LTS ISO.

Hi Jeffrey - how did you configure the access to your esxi hosts from your 192.168.X.X home network ?, i mean i did see source nat , for the vLANS , but how do you access the vLANED network from outside i mean from 192.168.X.X network ?, lets say i want to RDP into a JUMP host configured in vLAN 10 / ssh into a esxi host configured on vLAN 10

I'm not sure about your configuration, but i in mine, to enable cross-communication between different vlans, I would define that inside your firewall and you would be able to ping those devices on separate vlans.
