They revived the series as Backyard Sports, to try to distance themselves from the original licensed games. Like Backyard Football had the NFL license. Backyard Baseball had the MLB License, and I think they did Backyard Hockey with the NHL License too. Backyard Sports was the generic version of the 'league'

98 was good, but backyard football 2002 (Drew Bledsoe on the cover) was the better version imo. had many more pros and the stats weren't just out of 4 like in the 98 version. the version on the Gamecube (Mcnabb on the cover) was also not bad nor was the 2006 version (Dante Culpepper on the cover) on the computer. Unfortunately, the 06 one was the last fun one imo (I prob just aged out at that point tbh) but I miss those games. Shoutouts Vicki Kawaguchi, GOAT WR. I cannot be convinced otherwise

Humongous Entertainment, who made the original series, stopped making Backyard Sports, or well, all games, after early 2006 as that's when the company was shut down. The series was rebooted twice and these were some of the last games that were released in the series.
