Hello, I bought a t3/t4 rebuild kit. But the shaft bearing that was in the kit was smaller than my original. Wouldn't fit entirely over the shaft. U have an idea on how to get the proper size bearing? Thanks

Piston rings is the correct term! The oil as well as providing lubrication also applies a pushing force on the shaft so there is no end play. So the shaft is also acting as a piston. (If you look at a cross section, the turbine end of the shaft resembles a hydraulic ram) There is a thrust bearing (the 270 degree bronze plate) on the opposite end to take up this force. Without the oil pressure pushing on the shaft, the thrust bearing wouldn't work. This is why they're called piston rings and not just an oil seal.

I think you did an excellant job of explaining each step and what to be caeful of and why. I think that anyone with some mechanical assembly exprience certainly having rebuilt a eng would be able to do this. I honestly feel that I could do this successfully. Lastly thanks for taking the time and sharing your expertis This is what I come KZbin for not cat videos or to see one more fool do the harlem shake Honestly mad props dud.

The thing about the bigger journal bearing turbos is that each part..shaft,compressor and turbine are all "individually balanced" unlike the smaller turbos which are balanced after there assembled buy just grinding the turbine nut or fin. So you can put the turbine & compressor together anyway you'd like and it wouldn't matter.

It looks like the compressor housing can be easily rotated, I'm I right? Or does it need to stay the same place you marked it? Or is this just to make it line up correctly with your engine bay? Thanks!

Thanks a lot for the vid. I have an 87 T03. It's a bit different but not much. I have a question. I followed along great, didn't have assembly lube though, just used oil in spots and it seems great. As soon as I put any tension on the compressor nut, the turbine doesn't spin. Well, does but it's pretty firm. Why is this? If I loosen that nut any more the compressor wheel can spin freely on the shaft with the exhaust not spinning.

No, it's not. That video is all kinds of wrong, too. No re-machining specs, the guy uses vice grips. You can't make up things and pretend that this is the right way to do things-you are leading people in the wrong direction. I rebuild and balance turbos for a living, and most of what you said on your videos was dead wrong. Take your video down because it is just you making up and disseminating nonsense.
