One of the reasons it took so long to make was they spent the first couple of years making a new game. They showed off what they had done, and the backers and original fans said in one loud voice: "This is absolutely not what we want, not what we paid for. What have you done?", and the devs went back to the drawing board and started over.

You really have to approach this game like an RPG. You can go anywhere. And if you do, you'll die a LOT. Right from the start you can easily wander into a hopper in minutes, and it'll wreck your shit. But it's cool that you can do that instead of that area being completely off limits until the game lets you unlock a door or something.

I always loved that map design concept in euro jank RPGs like Gothic back in the day. I also loved the way they handled power curve in those games where you start out so feeble that townsfolk NPCs are a legitimate threat and progress to Unstoppable God-King of Murder. So much more interesting than the never-too-hard enemy scaling in games like Skyrim.

I'd go further and argue that it really IS a role playing game. Like the Thief games. Like Stalker. None of these games have character levels and stats, but they do have player agenda, choice and consquence, exploration, world building. These things should define what is an RPG, not numbers and the hunt for stronger items. Today, almost every single game has these mechanics, but few have what makes an actual RPG.

That one of the things I really liked...and really hated. But in a good way. A felt like in system shock when I fucked up, it was due to me. My flaws and I was allowed to suffer them. The game gives you all the tools you need to figure stuff out but because the anxiety and confusing of the citedal halls, shodan watching over you, her back up plans for bakc up plans and your need to scavenge while doing it can easily cause you to mess up if you don't slow down...stop...and think. I died SO many times in the beta grove because I never thought to look dfor the proto-type in maintenance even though I literally had a recording...one I listened to specifically tell me there is a proto-type in maintenance. Same with the plastice trap shodan sets. I had a logic prob...but I solved all thep uzzle before that by myself. Never using them. As a result the one time I needed to use it to escape...I didn't know how and took it out of my inventory and dragged it to the puzzle thinking it would solve it. Watch it slap against the wall and shout "what!" before a loud explosion rang out and killed me.

I never played the original nor it's sequel and I absolutely fell in love with the remake. It's probably not only going to be in my top 5 games of 2023 but also amongst my favorite games of all time. I'm 23, so by the time I started playing video games the whole "you need a pen and paper to write notes" wasn't a thing anymore. Having to actually take notes was surprisingly fun and I felt very accomplished whenever I would cross something no longer needed out. Fingers crossed Night Dive stays around for a long time and is able to make remasters and enhanced editions of many more amazing games. Personally I would love to see the Thief trilogy get enhanced editions or remasters. Especially so for Thief 3. A version of Thief 3 with less segmented maps would be amazing.

22 and same situation. I actually have had system shock 2 in my steam library for a minute now but never got around to playing it. Saw this, picked it up, loved every second of it. For me, the concept of having to jot down notes, backtrack to areas to gain a better understanding of what to do, and no quest markers was a real novel experience for me. Especially since I made sure to stay away from using google or walkthroughs. The only other game I have played like that was Morrowind when they ported it to Xbox One.

well I wich they actually followed the original more when it came to the final boss fight... because it went from awful in the original to awful and less interesting since the gimmick of Shodan's face covering your screen isnt even here, leaving you to feel like she isnt even fightting back even though you are in HER territory. While at the same time you as the player cant lose, but at the same time are at your absolute WEAKEST point in the game, with a complete pea shooter for a gun, no cyberspace flight, none of the upgrades you collected, and health low enought hat getting oneshotted is common and quite unavoidable.

Nitpicky correction about the inventory: You can upgrade it! There are two upgrades as far as I'm aware which each add one-half of a row of extra space, but they are quite troublesome to get to (one even being locked behind a significant challenge based on a completely different game). I am loving the remake so far. It really captures that post-catastrophy feeling, if a bit cartoonish by modern standards. The updates are fresh, and I feel like they really succeeded in bringing a classic to modern audiences.

I thought destroying the security cameras also removes the respawners for that level, making backtracking that much easier since you won't essentially be wasting anything but time. Edit: I noticed that a number of people say that the game doesn't tell you anything, but that's not true. Rebecca's voicemails/communications are mandatory, and she tells you each of your goals. The literal first goal is turning off the laser and go find d'Arcy's office. The holotapes tell you everything else, which I personally enjoy. Most of them are voiced so players simply have to listen, you don't even have to read! You get a nugget of information for each goal you do from both SHODAN and Rebecca. Shodan inadvertently guides you when you're close to some story point--i.e. when you're nearing the cpu nodes you have to destroy. I feel like if players aren't fond of exploring or used to just running and gunning, then they are going to have a hard time with this game. I like reading, exploring and lore, which is why i got into the SS series to begin with.

The game tells you everything you need to know - most of the time. Sometimes a guy will mention you must get thing...but not exactly state where thing is or what level while mentioning multiple levels. Like the isotope if I recall - but the nature of logs in modern games is always so....sort of flavor based. That the idea that you NEED to revisit these logs, listen and memorize them instead of having a joruanl doing it for you. Is jaring for the modern gamer, I know it was for me. It's easy to forget them, especially since between getting them and doing something - and other logs - it can be forgotten. Example being the hazard suit. By the time you can get to it, you might of forgotten that it was even mentioned on research. I kind of like it. There is no mental hand holding and because of that it is immersive. It's down to me to reconsider where II am going, why am I doing it and ultimately, just relax and listen to the logs again. The ONLY improvement I would like in this system...is the option to add picked recording to a "custom" category. Not just so I cna keep all the important ones lined up to revisit. But to revisit ones I like easier and quicker too.

for me the most obscure point was in executive to get the code to the maintenance area leading to Diego's office.. not only no holotape gives the code, but on top no holotape tells you where to get the code either, and its in a place where you are REALLY unlikely to look for said code at all. (which, spoilers, is on glitchy screen displays... not only at no other point in the game do displays like these give off any useful information, but on top they will be behind you every time since the only thing in the direction facing them is the elevator you likely came from... and if you are unlucky you just passed by when the screens looked normal on top. And they are miles away from where the code is needed so out f the usual search area for the code. Without a guide I would have NEVER found out about these)

"Who is this game for?" Well, me. Literally - I'm one of the people who backed this game at a fairly high tier, and who nearly rioted when Nightdive began going off the rails into a complete reimagining, before they stopped production and went back to square one. We wanted System Shock with modern controls and a fresh coat of paint. That's largely what we got - some additions weren't the best (you actually commented on them), and some things that could have been updated weren't, but for what it is, it really does represent System Shock built to be accessible to newcomers without actually changing the core game (I would absolutely never recommend the younger generation play the original game except as an academic exercise - '90s dungeon crawlers could charitably be described as 'quirky'). I really appreciate this review for multiple reasons. It seems that ND wasn't able to squash some of the bugs from the backer beta prior to release, so it's good to know what's coming. Also, I really appreciate how fair and even-handed you've been. System Shock is a game that can't properly be remade to suit the sensibilities of today, because tough-as-nails dungeon crawlers that never hold your hand or give you more than basic hints as to where to go and what to do just don't fly these days - if you suggest a player drag out a pen and paper, you get crucified. However, this remake at least sands off the rough edges of the original UX, incorporating many of the improvements to controls and interface that have been made over the past thirty years (oh god, it's really been that long...). Pointing out what people should expect, why they might not like it, but also what is great about it, is the best way to review something like this. People who might be interested in playing this game need to be aware that this is not a modern game by any standards, so they're going to experience something very old and 'mature' in the sense that the game expects you to do the work - it's not going to hold your hand and feed you objectives, you have to be the adult in the room. Going in with eyes wide open, I think there are plenty of people who will find something they never thought they wanted, while others will be fairly warned away from what can be a frustrating experience if you aren't willing to stick your nose into every crevice, write down notes, and really pay attention to the world around you. This game fills a niche that's been ignored for a very, very long time. System Shock isn't an Immersive Sim - it's a Dungeon Crawler. It just happens to be the Dungeon Crawler that birthed the Immersive Sim genre via its sequel and grandchildren (Deus Ex, BioShock, Prey 2017, etc.). It's an important piece of history that is now much more approachable. I also enjoyed the hell out of the remake backer beta, even though it was in an incomplete, buggy state. I'm eager to see how it looks when working 'as intended'. Might still need some patching though. Great review! EDIT: Oh, forgot to mention - for anybody who wants a bit more of that old-school feel in the remake, cutting out a lot of that neon bloom and stuff, set your graphics options to low. It's still high-res and has a ton of detail in the world, but it cuts back the bloom to nearly nothing and makes the textures chonkier. Give off that classic vibe without being absolutely flat.

39:56 There is a way to track the progress in that 4 way split subsections of cyberspace mentioned in the vid. Each section loops back around and reconnects w/ the hub room on the same wall w/ 4 doors blocked off by firewalls/shields (or w/e you want to call them). These doors are directly aligned w/ which subsection they are linked to. So the left subsection connects to the left shielded return door, the top subsection to the top door, etc. So in order to figure out which way you have gone and which way you haven't just look at the wall w/ the return doors. If the shield blocking the return door is still there, you haven't gone that way yet. And if its not there, you have. The game doesn't hold your hand, but it almost always provides you with the info you need to progress if you take a moment to look for it.

Im following the development of this game since its Kickstarter. Im happy to see that we finally get the remake that we hoped for. For a time, about halfway throughout development , Nightdive lost its way and slowly drifted away from its original promise of a faithful remake towards a totally reimagined game. They started to talk about "expanding" the original game, making changes to the story, introducing new characters etc. showcased screenshots of completely new enemies and entire new levels which were never part of the original game. This created quite some trouble with the Kickstarter community, and worried me aswell, for that matter. Luckily they listened to the criticism and after a short halt of development, returned to their original plans as layed out in their kickstarter.

"you will get lost" press tab, there is a map, there is also a mini map??? the game levels are visually easy to get lost in if you never check the map sure, but im honestly not sure who does that in this type of game. "there is no way to tell how much ammo you have left until you run out" Are you referring to clips or total ammo? A few things said in this were questionable, it is an immersive sim that rewards you for engaging in it's systems. PRESS TAB AND CHECK YOUR INVENTORY lol. "enemy physics remain upon death" again, its an immersive sim so maintaining the physics makes sense, although it looks HILARIOUS in a lot of instances, such as the stupid saucer droids who routinely scare the shit out of me because they died standing. "its hard to tell what weapon types do" okay so if you right click the weapon in your inventory it literally tells you what the modes are so im not sure if the issue is you didn't notice that, or you didnt use the system to its potential and arent aware of it. Also, i think your issue with the sparq beam is graphical on your end, i was using a 5 year old gpu but i could still tell the difference between low and medium, and if you couldnt see the energy arcing on high power i dont know what to say. Edit: oh right, you ended the video by throwing a tantrum and admitting that you dont understand how people review games in 2 weeks and how its not good for you with your circumstances after mentioning youve never done it before. Sounds like you identified the problem, its not something you enjoy doing, so stop doing it as youre the first reviewer ive seen who had a sob session pity party at the end of their video because they personally arent capable of making the content in the time frame, it sounds like you need to onboard some staff to help you instead of blaming the bad video game company for only giving you 2 weeks? One of the things I love about the original System Shock was the sense of scale that the levels gave you, each one was designed on grid paper to maximize the usage of the space available (and also exploit the limits of the engine), exactly how a station would be designed. Wasted space is wasted mass. But you're right in that the greebling on every wall is intensely distracting. You'd think a flagship corporate station would try to keep non-engineers away from all the mechanical guts. System Shock 2 went halfway for the Star Trek TNG aesthetic instead with its blandly paneled walls, and it's only through variety, intent, and set design that each deck managed to have an identity. Still, all in all it's been a long time coming, and I think they've pulled it off well enough to call it honest.

This was the best game I have played in years (just beat it last night after almost a month and 57 hours in total) I took my time and explored the entire map and kept listening to the audio logs when I would play the game the next day to get a feel for where I left off. It was one of the most satisfying games to complete and progress in constant writing notes on pen and paper so I could keep track of things. The combat and enemy variety was very good IMO and I never knew what enemy was going to be thrown at me next a robotic one or organic one this game kept me at the edge of my seat. Overall I think this is the best game I have played since Alien Isolation no other game has blown me away like this since Alien Isolation. I’m going to play Prey next to see how it compares! Thanks for the epic review of this masterpiece and though I respect your opinion about its flaws I think the only flaw I had with the game is how the dead bodies glitched out and kept moving. Cyberspace you disliked however was easily one of the most tense part of the entire game and I enjoyed it very much especially the one in executive which was the hardest by far.
@Null_Experis
@Null_Experis Жыл бұрын
There's a log in game that hand-waves the labyrinthine design of Citadel station as being purposefully designed to induce stress among the non-executive staff so they can study its effects on a long term basis, like accelerated aging of products in harsh conditions to test their durability. This only works because the entire executive floor is very straightforward with wide corridors and big rooms that just feels so much easier to navigate to the point where I started storing my weapons and extra ammo in one of the meeting rooms. It's my little oasis in the rats nest of Citadel Station. I also stockpile any alcohol I find there.

Call me an contrarian but this game has one major flaw. And well some would argue its its greatest strength. The lack of any kind of record keeping. Yes the whole, dumped on a space station and just thrown to the wolves without a clue what the hell you are doing. Mind you this was designed back a long time ago where things like level layouts or common sense didn't really exist. This is why a insanely high tech space station was Designed by Daedalus. In reality no one would ever make something like this. It just existed due to being a Dungeon in space. Now, mind you nothing actual wrong with that. You can overlook such a little thing. But ehh, come on is it so hard to keep a mission tracker? even something as simple just a list of your current objectives. Without actual saying how to accomplish it. For example, Stop mining laser. Simple, effective and dose not hinder the exploration or story telling. As the Greatest flaw any video game could accomplish is making you have to have to do homework or look up guides. This also cause a physiological effect that will kill your interest if you don't devote your entire time to it. As if you say get frustrated at the combat and take a break. Only to come back a week later to realize you can't recall what you were doing. As all the rooms and hallways blend in together and you don't even know what level you are on. Most likely your just going to abandon the game and restart. Assuming you don't go to a third party for information. This causes a death spiral as losing progress is the biggest way to cause a person to lose interest. In short system shock was a marvel back when it was first created. Now its philosophy is just kinda outdated. And while it is remarkable they were able to keep to the original so well. It is really missing a few quality of life features. That keeps this game from really being anything other then a niche game. Hell maybe they should have just remade the second one. As lets be honest that one is way better.

Video game reviews aren't broken... Well the users of said reviews MAY be broken. What do I mean by that? Well, if you expect a review to be out when the title drops, it ain't going to happen, no matter how much you want to. Just too much money, publisher nonesense and crap involved... So how are we users to do it? Well we sit back, let the developers / publishers drop the game, forget about buying it and wait for the reviewer of our choice to be done with it and drop their review. THEN we do our decision, yes it means we literally fuck over the developer / publisher by not buying their product at release, but this is a sign that they ALSO need to slow down and build a solid product. This is the mantra I have lived by, and often I come to the conclusion that I will wait for a sale, which makes me a very very bad customer, but I can afford to do so, as FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) doesn't work on me. Naturally this means I get solid experiences when played with friends, cheap purchase prices, but also means that my library of games I play, often is 3-4 years old and often it takes some time between the games I find worth buying.

@Baby Cheesus I waited for SS3 for years. Excitedly showing SS2 to anybody who would listen. All of them agreed it was an absolute gem of a game. Then rumors swirled of a new project. This is it, I thought. SS3 is here! Instead, it was a spiritual succesor. The hype was real. I earnestly desired for this project to succeed and be great. The time came, and rather than receive Excalibur from the Lady of the Lake. We received a rusty can opener. To my chagrin, the masses lapped it up. Like men who had been lost in a desert and presented with muddy water, they lapped it up and exalted it. I recoiled in horror. My countenance fell. Soon, the words "Shodan who." appeared alongside."Move over, Shodan. Andrew Ryan is here!" began to circulate online and in message boards. Games journalists hailed it as a great triumph. Yet I saw that this "triumph" meant I would never see the glory of system shock restored. Instead of a mighty king upon the throne. There sat a decrepit, mediocre, usurper. Hailed through multiple sequels and DLCs as one of the all-time greats. A title that it stole from its greater sire, System Shock.

Made the grave mistake of putting this on our big TV in our living room, and my cousin walked past and sat down to watch it with me. He showed genuine interest in the original game after I described it as the predecessor to Bioshock and a major influence on the Dead Space series and soulslikes to an extent. I broke down the story and gameplay for him and he seemed to really dig it, and I was happy he did. Then you started lambasting it. I'm just starting this, and loving it! I agree that it's a bit too much like the original in the layout, but I can forgive it because a real space station would likely be a huge maze simply because every single square inch needs to be used for something. If anything bothers me about the game its that I would have liked to have the option to use the original music, but I'm sure someone will make a mod that allows us to do just that. It's amazing how much the game reminds me of the far more recent Prey, which is a testament to just how ahead of its time System Shock was in 1994!

I started out enjoying it, but as it’s gone on and on it just feels kinda sloppy. I don’t consider walking into random rooms until i push a random button that happens to be the right thing to push. Like most immersive sims that try to be “hardcore” like this to mask just having poor structure, give it like 2 months and I guarantee you steam achievements will show less than 50% of players who bought it ever finished it. Only 5.4% of the players that bought the original in steam completed the game.

I agree with most of your criticisms, especially of cyberspace which I found to be a total slog (and apparently I missed both the Turbo Dash and Damage Multiplier abilities in my playthrough which, needless to say, probably made it even worse). I'll admit, I save scummed pretty heavily so the problems with the respawn chambers didn't affect me. Correction - they transitioned from Unity to Unreal because the PS4 or Xbox One had zero chance of running the game in Unity, having very underpowered hardware. And as Nightdive secretly wanted to develop FOR the consoles first, and the drop port to PC (essentially lying and false advertising with the Unity build to secure Kickstarter funding), they opted to secretly switch to Unity. Hence the radio silence for months after financing - and the eventual Hiatus from the huge backlash of original backers. And, ultimately, the prolonged development time.

20:32 It sort of makes sense to have chairs facing windows on a space station. The crew would want to be able to relax and look out a window during a break or as they were heading to a different part of the station. It's more of a "world building" choice to have scenery like that. Overall, as a remake, I think it's a pretty successful and accurate interpretation of the original. Which I wouldn't be too hard on the developers, it's going to be different since it is different, and is trying to bring an older game from a different time into the modern gaming world. The main thing about the game that is highly important, is no hand holding. The game should be punishing and ruthless, with no floating way-points that you can see through walls.

I would seriously love System Shock 2 to be remade the same way like this. Port over with same visuals, perhaps with a mild 'update' to detail fidelity. Also so far I cannot say I've had any issue with SS1:RE - So far I've had a fully stable gameplay experience graphics-wise and stability-wise. I enjoy the junction minigames, I dun mind the very tunnelling feel of Citadel Station and how it's hard to dig around for the Recycling machine on this or that level.... hell I pressed the 'laser' button and did not expect the game to just allow me to do so... I have not played the original, sadly I was too young to really get to do so when it originally came out, and by the time it became valid for me to be able to play it, it was too outdated for me to enjoy it (same with Fallout 1 and 2).

The couple of issues I have with the review are the critiques about recycling and cyberspace. Prior to starting a run going for 3/3/3/3, I already didn't find the criticism people have made of the junk/recycle/credit system valid but after starting a max difficulty run it only enhanced that opinion. System Shock has always been a game that doesn't hold your hand. You can very quickly get like 200+ credits just from Medical alone by vaporizing nearly everything, saving only the high yield credit junk. Are new players gonna know that? No of course not. But most people should grasp the concept by the time they're leaving Research level. The game demands you think, adapt, realize things quickly. It demands you work (I mean hell, how else do you get the self-destruct code?) Anyone playing a game with an inventory system like this should know they need to manage it and more weapons/items are gonna be available than slots available and the later in the game you get, the more clutter you'll be faced with. It rewards those who are keen, think, plan ahead and that type of gameplay also enhances replayability. There's a reason there's sooooooo much junk on the early levels. But it also doesn't punish those ignorant to that premise, you can still easily beat the game recycling here and there or even not at all. Secondly, I hate to be the person that says skill issue with cyberspace but your critiques mostly feel like a skill issue. The certain warp tunnels you mention containing the mine enemies can be slowed down by holding backwards and the game gives you a pretty good distance prior to the first initial enemy to just spam your basic attack to destroy them in a straight line. Not to mention those tunnels littered with mines aren't very common. Are the sections kinda long and visually bland? (Are the purple enemies the most annoying thing ever?) Yeah, I'd agree for sure. I didn't like dying near the end of a section, who does? But at not point are you unfairly dying in cyberspace honestly. You die because you played the room wrong so you adapt next time around. I don't see how a game overwhelming you with enemies and forcing you to keep moving is a valid critique. Is cyberspace supposed to just let you easily win? Cover needs to be utilized and is readily available in every mob heavy room. Also the antennae cyberspace one, while disorientating at first for sure, I believe does follow cardinal directions and the exit it shoves you out of is on the same side as the entrance you went in, so it does give feedback but I agree its very confusing and most people are gonna be lost. Other than that great review. Love the amount of effort you put into your videos.

11:05 Played ss1 and 2 and it was not easy back then so I had no choice but setting difficulties of combat to lowest, making the enemies feeble and never attack first. Well, the remake seems so nice so I have tried combat to 2 and it was d*mn hard to beat. Maybe later I will try again with 1 combat difficulty, since fortunately for the boss fight you can do some kind of workaround, berserk patch+laser rapier or so. However the usual enemies even security-2-bots are so hard to kill even with upgraded magpulse, it took about 10 shots to bring those robots down, plus on last bridge level you can't regenerated, bummer. 🙃

I finished the whole game didn't even find the ion rifle, thought it was some sneaky Easter egg I've seen people use it. Focused almost exclusively using the electric beam hand cannon thing, the sqer or something. Once I found them, the shotgun, mag pulse, SMG and grenade launcher were staples in the rotation. Rail gun was fun and cool but infrequent with the ammo. I went into this game blind, not playing the original and I was spectacularly surprised at just how little the game does to tell you what to do. I was also very impressed at just how much that made me want to learn more about what I should do, and how frequently that lead me into fights/ambushes with cyborg assassins. I'd give it a solid 8 or 9 / 10. Was it perfect no, but did shooting off the head off cyborgs with a shotgun after that fucker killed me 3 times with a fucking sticky mine grenade become something of a highlight, it sure as hell did.

I found the cyberspace parts to be one of the highlights, but i was incredibly disappointed by the immersive sim parts, or really lack there of, as well as how linear it all was. I actually looked up a guide to see what i was missing because I've always heard it wasn't linear lol. The worst part though was how dumb the AI was, and in a game about an evil AI, made it extra disappointing. If i do a next time definitely will have to crank the difficulty up. But all in all, I enjoyed the game quite a bit and found it to be a cool scifi romp, but it has definitely been over hyped over the years through nostalgia goggles.

Great game! I play it in darkness of my 3 level cellar (500 years old) - it adds a lot of horror mood , hehe

I think the disoriented feeling of exiting cyberspace is appropriate - you feel exactly the same when removing a VR HMD, like how much time has passed, where the hell am I? To be honest I hated every time you had to return to the station, as it felt more stressful compared to cyberspace, even with all its shortcomings

This is a proper remake, not a huge game with 30G of installation space or more, it have 15G, with mid specs graphics, viable to most computers, most studios should do things like this, not remake a game with 150G of installation with high specs graphics most computer gamers cant afford.

you got a subscribe from me because of this your message about how doing reviews in a crunch and the horrible culture of it all - spot on !!! the state of things in the world are such that, culture is a precarious thing and engagement with, perpetuation of, it needs to be deliberate, aware so much vapid shallow nonsense, society is degrading, civilization collapsing, and culture at the core 'lost' (homogenization, and so much more)

Well, since my name translates to "Collector", I had an absolute blast scavanging the entire station. Not a single junk item survived the onslaught so far. Good thing I dumped all the guns and only use Wrench or Rapier...

Tbh I didn't have a problem with the cyberspace in the remake, it definitely is a trade off, with the original being quick and relatively painless, but ultimately boring, floaty, and unresponsive. A snooze fest really, while the remake is much more interactive and intense, definitely requiring a bigger time investment and attention to it made it seem more cohesive and worthwhile to the whole experience over the original. There was one section I found to be horrendous in like maintenance or something, but other than that I personally don't feel the same way

I didn't think about it when I played the remake, but after watching this I realize that I completely agree about cyber space.

I agree that cyberspace would be better being shorter. But i quite liked it. The main issue was they made it too hard... including some dirty tricks from the original. Completing a 15 minute fight only to be killed by a mine on the way out was so frustrating i turned the cyber difficulty to 1

I never played the original. I absolutely fucking love this thing. This game is awesome but I do agree that the cyberspace levels are less fun than the rest of the game. After seeing the original's cyberspace levels though I think this has to be an improvement. Also, the engineering level was a total blast! Hard as hell and super maze-like. What a great game overall. I love immersive sims and I have played System Shock 2 previously. So happy Night Dive did this and did such a great job with it. I really wish System Shock 3 was actually going to be a thing. So mad that was cancelled.

Switch off all the power in the research facility, very bad idea..I died and respawn at the med station, use the ele and everything was out of power, can't open the door and cant use the ele to go back down rip, is ok tho, I don't mind it, replying it again..good times..

I actually really loved the maze element of this game. I kinda wish they had made another thief game instead of system shock but it’s still really great

Even if the game is extremly samey, the fact it's on a space station helps obfuscate that fact. It's a far more realistic realistic depiction of an actual space station than Prey ever was.

I can't believe my SSD that has the OS on it died at the worst possible time and I can't install a new one on the M2 slot of the motherboard because it's for some reason missing the screw that's supposed to hold it in place, I'm losing my mind right now, can't wait to solve that and go ham on the game. Have fun playing!

I felt no shame in installing an auto vaporizing mod for my playthrough of the remake. It just takes a little bit of that tedium out of the game. It was okay when I was younger playing the original. But as an adult, I'm glad to have the mod.

Guy hasn’t played many games I guess. Most definitely not the best ladder system bro. Game forces you to jump over them if you don’t want to climb down cause more fall damage on medium ladders and potentially causing any fall damage on short ladders. The game shouldn’t auto snap to the ladder when approaching it from above. Furthermore there is no ability to slide down (quick descend) ladders. Both of these things can be found in other games.
