In tanzania we have electric SGR train the distance from Dar es salaam to Dodoma, the capital city of Tanzania is 460 kilometers, 13 Kmilometers more than distance between Mombasa to Nairobi.The ticket price third class from Dar es Salaam-Dodoma Sh59, 494(Ksh 2,913.70) per adult and Sh29, 747(Ksh 1456.85) for kids between the ages of 4 and 12. Economy class: Sh71,392 (Ksh 3496.40) per adult and Sh35,696 (Ksh 1748.20) for kids. It takes 2 hours and 20 minutes to reach Dodoma.

Taxi fare from Nairobi to Soykimau Railway station in Machakos County, is Ksh4500.! Then from Mritini Terminus to Mombasa, the taxi fare is Ksh 4000! So the Total cost from Nairob8 to Mombasa via UHURU BUILT SGR is: 12000 + 4500+ 4000=20500! Which Stupid person will spend 20k on this Train, when he can FLY for 9k???

What the government should have negotiated is to build these coaches in Kenya/UG/TZ. The number of coaches being bought by those three countries justify establishing a joint venture to build them locally. Coaches are not complex yet they would have created plenty of jobs especially if all materials were sourced locally.

The target audience is for the rich tourists and politicians but it could be good if they also considered that most average Kenyans would also want to enjoy this premium facility and hence an average of 6-8k would be viable. The tourist peak season to Coast is for a few months in a year so what about the low season when we dont have tourists?
