Oh yes we do. My husband’s truck was broken into and thousands of power tools were stolen that Monday morning during the hurricane. Another truck and car were broken into as well that day at 4 am. Those thugs wake up when hard working men go to sleep. During the police report the cop told me the crooks only steal when cops aren’t around, had there been more police officers nearby they wouldn’t be smashing windows left and right. Super fun going to the mechanic on a Tuesday during the chaos. The lot was full of people trying to repair their broken windows. Such a shame. Can’t get a job to save their life and don’t care about getting hurt and going out in the middle of a hurricane. All to steal someone’s living to get by until the next theft. Great role models. Model citizens. If they’re unemployed and have kids they even get food on the taxpayer’s dime. Despicable.

It's the deterioration of the electrical grid, mainly due to lax maintenance by centerpoint, the local power infrastructure manager. Back then only the big storms like Rita, Ike, and Harvey caused widespread outages. Now it seems any freeze or strong wind can knock out power in Houston.

It is absurd that one electric company is allowed to service any city or community. They are not held accountable and repeatedly fail to provide proper restoration for the electricity when a heavy storm hits. Something needs to be done to change this. Hospitals without power, people sweltering, freezing and dying in their homes or elsewhere because profit over safety rules. I pray those that know what to do will act.

It's well documented recruiting is way down and departments are having hard times hiring new officers. Crime in Dallas now is off the charts and homelessness has taken over. Where is the military industrial complex. I want to see imminently rapid deployment more national spending massive factories building cables and other materials and more stuff with worker engineers, sappers, Sturm Pioneers on the field. In less than a week it could be done upgrading everything. If Uncle Sam back 1941 could build a mighty military both earth sea and air combine why not now with all the high tech stuff. US is made of war economy model. It thrives on wars why not declare war on global warming and nature as threats to national security. A world Parody.

Just for the record ,these guys are certified law enforcement by the state and not by the city. So, they're automatically certified to operate in Houston. Why don't we have power cruise from Austin and the rest of the cities coming down here instead? We're bringing in crews from Ohio which is on the other side of the country

They're coming to patrol all the looting going on while we are working to get out of the dark. Our officers haven't had a break. AND this is not the first time officers have come here to Houston mutual aid style. We had officers from all over Texas (and even out of state) assist when we got hit by Harvey in 2017. I remember driving by my nearest Home Depot, who did not have electricity and seeing police from Odessa and El Paso patrolling outside. This is a resource we have used before in Houston.

I'm sorry, but states in hurricane prone areas need to be prepared, it not just the utility company that's at fault, it's the state government of Texas that is ultimately responsible for their current situation. I love how the state government of texas loves to blame the utility company every time a natural disaster occurs in that state, yet they do nothing to change it.
