Nuances of Prot Warrior Tanking that NOBODY tells you

One ability I DIDN'T cover that tanks absolutely should be using is mocking blow. it's in battle stance so most tanks forget about it, but it focuses the target onto you for 6 seconds and can potentially save your group members. swap > mocking blow > swap back to defensive. Fun fact I'll add here about the most underused prot warrior ability: disarm. you know which mobs can be disarmed? the warlocks in the magtheridon boss fight. If you're a prot warrior tanking 1 or even 2 adds and NOT disarming, you're only making the fight harder on your healers. Especially if you're one of the people tanking the last 1-2 adds when their buff is near their max, disarm them to cripple their melee damage then focus on interrupting the heals while your dps interrupt the shadowbolt volleys.

As someone who's only recently hit 70 and still very new to tanking, Im just leaving this here for people who are just starting out and might be intimidated by the beginning of the video addressing stuff they dont have (experience tanking heroics, Khara, engineering, etc): Just get stuck in. Youll make mistakes, its fine. Despite what people say about the WoW community these days, no one will rip your head off for not perfectly keeping aggro on an entire pack while youre still in greens and theyre in raid gear. Make use of your entire kit as best you can, take it slow, mark your targets, ask for CCs if available, keep an eye on your group's (especially the healer's) mana, and more often then not youll have people msg you that youre the best warrior tank theyve ever seen.

Hey man. This is one of the few real tanking videos in KZbin. The tanking mechanics are not hard, playing dps is much harder. Just as you said. But all this nuances and our attention being the real estate we learn that no one talks about. Please please make a video on psychology and social dynamics of running heroics with randoms vs guildies. And the burden of always being literally and figuratively the front of your raid. And how it can wear a lot of people down and outright make your guild lose a MT

It's a weakaura, you can find a ton of class/ spec specific auras and customize them to fit your ui Wago.io I recommended using one that's more up to date, and playing around with it until you're comfortable

This is exactly the kind of thing I’m looking for- I’m already a fairly accomplished tank (tank all heroics comfortably, MT all raids, etc.) but am always looking for ways to improve and step up my game to the next level. Dabiri's enigma increased block rating, not value. Horrible trinket for prot warriors in tbc unless you are going for a 'uncrushable' build in heroics so you take minimal dmg. I mean, it COULD give SOME threat if you're using a shield spike..... but still it's silly compared to just about any other trinket you can equip. Use a dps trinket. If you need the defense from dabiri's in order to not be crit in 5mans, then you'd STILL be much better off with the KoT - exalted epic trinket (27stam + more crit reduction from the resil than you get off the def from dabiri's). Not sure how i found myself here. Esp a year later, and esp considering I did this content in og tbc and classic tbc and I no longer even play, lol. But just figured I'd point that out in the extremely small chance it helps you or anyone else that finds themselves here randomly like I did. Cheers

Can not stress enough how important maintaining rage is and pulling with rage is seen far too many prot warrs in pugs wait for mana users to drink, and pull after all their rage has decayed. I stongly disagree that you should never hesitate to tell dps to throttle themselves either their dps is 0 when they are dead and in the current phase if your doing easy content no prob go ham but pulling aggro on a boss immune to taunt can be very bad for the whole raid group. And potentially turn your best pull on a prog boss into a wipe. I will also advertise to aoe cleave classes in 5 mans if they are AOE'ing before a marked skull is dead that I will not taunt the mobs they pull off if they can't handle that dps are a dime a dozen a decent tank not so much. Something you didn't mention also that swapping your shield for an offhand weapon is a great way to generate rage and threat when your not actively tanking really vital for prot wars in raids to do this on bosses like Void Reaver and Gruul. Also a good choice for really geared prot warriors to hold threat in normal lvl dungeons they otherwise don't take much damage from

I don’t get all this talk about tanks have it easy or dps have it harder.. They all easy once you realize what you have to do.. tanking in dungeons is about pacing.. dps is about focusing, healing is about knowing what each pulls output in dmg will look like so you don’t fall asleep playing whack a mole.

if you want the easy life of loot prio, never having to wait for groups, and always being needed in raids/pugs then roll a tank. of course that varies based on which class you roll, but the point still stands. I do understand that your comment is mostly about dungeons, but even then the only difficulty in tanking dungeons is assessing your group's skill level and playing accordingly. you're right though, wow is a super easy game but that doesn't mean that people aren't looking to improve their current skill level or gameplay

This video was more about things like stacking cooldowns, managing the pace in regard to group hp/mana, positioning mobs for chain pulling, dynamite, etc. plus, I made a video about fury prot already so I thought I'd leave it out.
