We added the 2nd deep brood box to all but 1 package that superceeded their queen. Fred purchased a nuc from me to boost 5 hives for better honey production.

My wife had a thick scar on the back of her thigh from an accident she had when she was in her teens. She went to a guy about 7 miles away who kept bees. Bought a jar of them and would numb the scar with ice and sting the scar. I thought she was crazy. Within a few months the scar tissue was gone. I keep bees now and get stung all the time. Bee venom is good stuff!!

I thought that the more you get stung the more you got immune. It’s actually reversed , I’ve been keeping bees since 1971 and I have an allergy now from being stung so much , some people are lucky and can last more years without the allergy, but in my case I have to wear a full suit now just to walk in front of my hives
@WoolieBsApiary Жыл бұрын
Fred has been keeping bees for 65 years and he has not developed an allergy. He calls me sometimes and tells me he got 30 stings.

@@WoolieBsApiary well , it took me over 50 years to get an allergy, I ran 3,000 boxes and never wore gear , the dr told me my immune system is reacting to the histamine because of it , Fred’s a lucky sum bitch 😝

Can you convert Can you convert 8 frame hives to 5 frame nucs

Thanks! I had never thought of nuc beekeeping. Very interesting. I notice towards the end that he added an inner cover on which placed his mason jar. The inner cover had the notch up. Might that not entice robbers into the empty box surrounding the feed jar? Would it be better to put the notch down?
@WoolieBsApiary5 жыл бұрын
only if the hive is weak or in the dearth or if you put a commercially bought essential oil feeding stimulant. most of those have lemongrass oil which will start robbing. i need to do a video on how i make my essential oil feeding solution.

Can you install a package into an empty frame nuc ? I.e no foundation in the frames.i was planning to do this and just add a syrup feeder to help them draw it out .
@WoolieBsApiary3 жыл бұрын
i would turn the cleat bar down to give them a guide to draw on and make sure the hive is level from side to side with a slight tilt forward.

Just ran across your channel today. I love what you’re doing. I had the idea this year to run all nuc colonies. So, what you’re doing is intriguing. Do you think this would work in SW Michigan zone 6? I’m just north of the indiana border.

The fellow in this video is my mentor and friend for many many many years he has kept bees for 60 years and kept them in nucs in Allentown pa but moved down to Tennessee. I do nucs in my queen / nuc yard but my outyards are 8 frames. Less space to heat so I would wrap them

If u add BROOD FRAME,bees WON'T FIGHT and WON'T kill your Queen,you don't have to do newspaper like a combine .. I don't reckon it's hurting nothing,but it's totally unnecessary work for the bees, they could do something more productive.I take Frames of Brood and put in different hives ALL the time,at least once or twice a week, sometimes alot more, like when equalizing,or adding brood and bees to a freshly mated Queen,or weak hive,or making Nucs etc.etc..Not trying to bash this, just trying to help you by sharing my experience of many, many hours of sharing brood,it's safe,now honey Frames I'd shake bees off.Brood mostly nurse bees, honey mostly older bees..

I used to get stung a few times every year over the years, depending on fast or how stupid I got when working with my bees, never wore a vail or gloves, some yrs i never got stung but when i did it never bothered me, now I'm 81 and got stung twice already and one time the hand swelled up so bad I couldn't make a fist and the other time my finger swelled up so bad I couldn't bend it for a few days.. I guess after all these years I'm finally allergic to them.. started wearing the vail and latex gloves..
@WoolieBsApiary3 жыл бұрын
local reactions is not an allergic reaction. if you get stung on the hand and your leg swells thats an allergic reaction its called a Systemic allergic reaction. im glad you are still keeping bees. i hope im able to keep a hive or 2 if i live to be 81 how long have you been keeping bees? thanks for watching.

@@WoolieBsApiary I've had them here off and on for over 50 yrs. sometimes the bears would wipe them out or i would be gone and didn't have the time so would give them to someone and in a few yrs start all over again. never more than twenty five. but for the most part i tried to keep them around..
