hope your back will be better, heat and massage helps! :) btw "Flanders" (Ned Flanders) is the neighbour of homer and he doesnt like him ("stupid flanders" one of his catchphrasess) except for some special episodes. flanders is a firm christian and believes god in a very "strong way", their Kids Rod and Tod and his wife maud (all sound like "God" if you change one or two letters) are the same. he always lends some stuff to homer like new lawnmowers and all but he never gives it back and flanders is basically always super friendly (which annoys homer as well) and polite and kind to everyone. you gotta learn Simpsons!!! :D :) have a great evening!

Context for the episodes: 1. This is from one of the Halloween episodes, where the writers get to play with ideas they'd never use the rest of the year. Flanders is the long-suffering deeply religious straight man to Homer's antics. 2. Canary M. Burns _owns_ the plant with C. Montgomery Burns (the old guy) being next in line but not ultimately legally responsible.

As some others have already mentioned, the first video is a Halloween special. You can tell the Halloween episode in this case from the green font on the credits and the nicknames used. These episodes were standalone and did not follow the main story at all, and any events from these episodes did not affect the regular series. You are correct in saying it reminds you of a movie, almost all of these Halloween specials were parodies of movies, books or to a lesser extent, television, and in (I think) one case, poetry.

For context Flanders had a head injury that gave him those powers, it's a Halloween special those episodes aren't considered canon.

At 11:28 of this video, you talked about a round door, but I don't think that you realize that it is a spoof on an old sitcom ( situation comedy ) show called " Get Smart ". The introduction to that show is the main character, Maxwell Smart, going through a series of security features to get into his top secret department. Even the theme music playing in the background is very similar to the theme song for " Get Smart ". Just a little tidbit of information for you, Elina, to thank you for all the work you put into your videos. You are truly amazing!!!!

The Simpsons, Nuclear power plant / Mr Burns parts are a parody, Mr Burns represents the greedy capitalist "Robber Baron" and "Old Money" trope that the ultra wealthy are sometimes perceived as, and the running of the Power Plant humorously explores both corporate negligence and malfeasance, and the trope of Nuclear Danger from mismanagement, inspired by incidents like Three Mile Island (or the negative perception of it).

Ned Flanders is a VERY religious character who always says "didily" in a sentence or "Okily Dokily" and in the early seasons Homer always saw him as a rival because he had the perfect life unlike Homer. But their dynamic changed when Ned's wife Maude died. He also has two sons, Rod and Todd, who are so religiously raised that they're very emotionally fragiled (but in a fun way). I think there actually where a religious cult in real life based on Ned Flanders, they all had the same green sweater as the character! XD This is from a Treehouse of Horror episode, which is a Halloween special that's not canon to the actual show. It mostly parodies horror movies and TV-shows, this for example when Ned can see in the future by touching someone is a parody of the movie Dead Zone, which is based on a Stephen King book.
@benjamintan2733 Жыл бұрын
For the first clip, Ned Flanders was Homer's neighbour and he is generally a saint and follow Bible almost word for word. He has 2 kids but unfortunate for him, his wife pass away which made him a single father. In that episode, Ned saw a vision that Homer is going to 'accidentally' destroy Springfield. If you listen carefully, the speaker in that pink control dome is not working correctly, so Homer thought Ned is telling him to press that button.

I believe them having their own labeled poles is a reference to the 1960s Batman TV show (with Adam West). Whenever Batman and Robin needed to go to the Batcave they'd slide down the Bat-Poles, which were hidden behind a bookcase and each was labeled with one of their names.
@patrickbuick5459 Жыл бұрын
Perhaps the poles were, but up to that point, it was the security hall from Get Smart, theme music and all. He used a descending phone booth, not a pole as I recall.

Ned Flanders, as others have said, is hyper-religious, and is frequently the object of Homer's abuse (sometimes good-natured, and sometimes not). In that Halloween episode, Mr. Burns transfers ownership of the plant to the bird so that he isn't responsible for the nuclear power plant's problems. As others have said, Smithers has unrequited love for Burns. A running gag in the show is that Mr. Burns is clueless as to Smithers' feelings and doesn't even realize Smithers is gay.

Flanders is Homer's neighbor. Smithers is in love with Mr. Burns although it is unrequited love. Smithers is still devoted to Mr. Burns. What do you think of the most recent claim of successful "cold fusion reaction". I tried to tell people it has been claimed many times but upon peer review it has never been duplicated. I am skeptical of the most recent claim. What are your thoughts???
@michaelmills8205 Жыл бұрын
Ned Flanders is the Simpson's next door neighbour and he always tries to do the right thing, while Homer relentless abuses and takes advantage of him. That episode was part of a Halloween segment, so that's why Flanders had the power to see the future, even though he normally does not. Mr. Burns is massively negligent and will always sacrifice safety in order to make more money. In other episodes he is shown to employ criminal behaviours such as bribery as well. In order to prevent himself from being held responsible for his crimes, he made someone else the legal owner of the plant. Burns and Smithers are not a couple. Smithers is just madly in love with Burns, to an extremely unhealthy degree and Burns is either unaware or abuses that to make Smithers a servant. When Smithers attempts to confess his feelings to Burns, Burns usually shows some sign of homophobic or being complete unaware. The Burns joke sways between him being an selfish asshole and being a living fossil with values and references to things from the early 1900s.
@MichaelBrown-me3bh Жыл бұрын
Ned Flanders is Homers next door neighbour. In this Halloween special episode they do a recreation of the movie the Dead Zone where Ned can see the deaths of the people he touches. In the second episode (not a Halloween special) we see the true owner of the nuclear plant has escaped his cage. Smithers is Mr Burns personal assistant who is a closeted gay man (which is a running joke throughout all of the episodes) is deeply obsessed with his boss and would quite literally follow him anywhere, job or not.
@bryancampbell9622 Жыл бұрын
I grew up with the Simpsons, it's weird to see someone who hasn't. Smithers has had a crush on Mr.Burns for the whole show, but Mr.Burns is always clueless to it. It's a running joke. That green light from the facility containing a proton accelerator seems to suggest that Homer somehow managed to overload the accelerator to produce lots of accelerated proton beam (an ionizing radiation), 😅 thus putting everyone lives in danger . Hi Elina! This was fun! I am looking forward to more of your videos! Now, on to your questions: Who is Ned Flanders and what did Homer Simpson do to him? Ned Flanders was Homer's neighbor. He was married and had two children and were over-the-top religious. One day at the races that the Flanders and the Simpsons were attending, Homer accidentally killed Ned's wife with a T-shirt cannon. However, in this episode, Ned had the ability to see the future when he touched folks, as in the movie Dead Zone. Mr. Smithers' love remains unrequited to this day, despite having some very close encounters with his boss Mr. Burns. I hope that clarifies things....
