"fortuna favet fortibus". This is latin for fortune favours the brave, and is, according to Don Rosa, what was written on Scrooge mcDucks gravestone when he died in 1967. Best part in the song for sure!

This is when one of the world's best song writers writes a song (or a whole album) about the biography of one of the most fascinating cartoon characters in the world, drawn by one of the best cartoonists of all times. (And by that I do not necessarily mean Rosa's drawing style, but the amount of work he puted into his stories, especially those presented as The Life and Times of Scrooge.) This is pure Epicness. And after the release of this album, I listened to it for weeks without end. This one is clearly my favorite.
@myrkvarg4 жыл бұрын
This song, and the whole album, contains some of the most beautiful music ever written in the history of music. The story has also made a huge impact on me, I was 5 when I read the Life And Times of Scrooge for the first time and it is one of the most epic, heartwarming, hilarious and amazing graphic novels of all time. When I heard this soundtrack for the first time, from my FAVOURITE composer, I burst into tears. He managed to created the story of Scrooge through music like no one else could have done. Even Don Rosa himself wept when he heard the demo tapes, and I do not blame him at all for that. This is mafic. Everything with this is on another level of composing and it exceeds the definition of music. It's so much more. The emotions that hit me when I listen to this album are so numerous and wild, they can't be contained. No words I'll be able to communicate can ever justify how amazing this album is. Tuomas is a genius. And Don Rosa is a legend. Nothing but eternal love for this 💜💜💜💜💜

@jezkn10 жыл бұрын
Absolute TOSH - sorry - what are you on ????. This piece is embarrassingly bad - and if you judged him just by this - it would make him the WORST modern composer. And it's not that Tuomas isn't capable of great things. He is. But this is NOT to his favour !! And you guys that just like anything because it's Tuomas without being discriminating are doing him NO favours. Because if he starts to believe you - he's in bigger trouble still. I did have high hopes of this project when I first heard the trailer. But I'll tell you straight now - this willl go down like a lead balooon in UK and USA - and other markets (right over Ducksburg).
@CarcassRainOfBlood10 жыл бұрын
jezkn it seems that you try so hard, but I wander what is the point, do you try to stop to people to hear this album, or you just try to make people believe in your own point of view (like if everybody were stupid except you) ...? this things are very personal, if the guy want to call him "the best moderm composer" it's ok there is nothing wrong with that, since your personal taste can't tell him who is the best, people getting upset for that is so stupid that it looks like envy...
@jezkn10 жыл бұрын
Edwin Mwinne I'm not really bothered whether people see my point of view or not (its worth no more than anybody elses). But at least it IS an alternative point of view (and I won't be the only one either). You are also right about it being very personal - but that's why if somebody claims Tuomas is the best modern composer based on THIS piece and anoither disagrees they should say so. When you make such high and mighty (and absurd) claims you open yourself up to criticism. And you my friend musn't try and stifle debate. KZbin is not a poilice state!! If people disagree let them say so. Why not ? - Thats what KZbin is about . We're not a bunch of 'yes men' (or women). However if he, she or you want to come back and tell us why you think this piece makes Tuomas 'the best modern composer' then I would welcome that (because I would strongly take issue with it). But if you love this plece - then EN JOY !! (Perhaps I'm the only one that doesn't) !
@jezkn10 жыл бұрын
jezkn As regards envy - you are partially right there too - but you got the wrong piece. I AM envious of 'The Life and Times' trailer with orchestra, choir, and Mikko's guitar solo. But NO - not of this piece (which is taken from a thousand others anyway). I'm also envious of Tuomas's 'Sleeping Sun'. Oh Yeah - I WISH i'd written that one !
@Pixelkripta10 жыл бұрын
I disagree as well. This piece is boring and uses the same musical solutions like in all the newer Nightwish songs. Same symphonics, same melody. Nothing which would categorize a composer modern, or best..

The moment when I listened imaginaerum album for the first time and I Want My Tears Back's uillean pipe intro kicks, I got this huge emotional blow and I literally got tears in my eyes, though it is not sad part or anything but the joy and musical "extasy" just hit me so hard and I was just so overwhelmed! And same thing when I was listening to this scrooge album and heard the chorus of 'The Last Sled' for the first time "...Thing we lost ...the things we couldn't share.." it was (and is!) just pure musical perfection, a perfect harmony straight to my soul. These are really special moments in life, the feeling is just something so unique. Though I listen to these albums again many times and really enjoy it! Indeed :D Although, it's a huge shame to see Anette go... You CANNOT do the beautiful theatrical things they've done in DPP and Imaginarium with a Soprano singer. Just would not work XD Anette's voice > Tarja's (Imo) - The vocalist in this sounds so like Anette. If they had found someone of similar talent to this singer, then I'd be alot happier than Floor (Who's good, but, reminds me of Tarja - And, unless they go back to the likes of Wishmaster, Oceanborn and similar ideas, I doubt I'd enjoy it as much as the recent albums!) But I'm sure Floor will be a nice addition to the talent pool that is NW :D
@NataliaNightwisher10 жыл бұрын
***** I don't think he/they got rid of them in order to take another musical direction... They just didn't get along well, plain and simple. Human relationships do change and nw isn't the first nor the last band that has been through line up changes. The urge to find someone to blame is caused by our level of butthurtness :p That being said, I agree that all of them are great singers and now, Floor has a versatile voice that matches their versatile music ;)
@NataliaNightwisher10 жыл бұрын
***** Actually they've changed the style while Tarja was still in. Take CC: darker and "heavier" sound, use of orchestra and a softer voice. DPP wasn't that much different from Once...They "played it safe" because it was written without having a specific voice in mind. So, that's why I don't think he did it on purpose. If that was the case, he could have easily thrown off Tarja at the end of the Wishmaster tour ;) Anyway, let's enjoy the awesome music! Have fun :D
@marymroe910 жыл бұрын
***** To an extent a composer will match his musicians. You would not compose a song for an alto voice and turn to a soprano. You would not compose a song for a violin and ask a trumpet to play it. Tarja's beautiful voice drew people to Nightwish and she did contribute to the compositions. But it is Tuomas's compositions and leadership of the band which keeps you a Nightwish fan. Tuomas is also the one who kept them from going overboard on the Classical side and the presence of metal a reality. Annette had a very interesting voice but you could hear some weaknesses and I did wonder if she could continue for very long. Floor is smart, her voice well trained. She does not demand more of it than it is capable and she has the stage presence that Nighwish needs. Tarja is still perfecting her craft, she continues to improve and one day she is going to take the Classical world by storm.

If ever I shall have to fight, then fight shall I... Because music is my weapon, and all I wish to save in the world. Because if music is saved, the world is saved.

To anyone bashing Tuomas or Nightwish. Do you honestly think your opinions are going to change anything? It's HIS music/or theirs depending on the project, end of story, he can do whatever he likes with it and if you were paying attention, him NOR Nightwish adhere to ANY specific genre. Get the beans out of your ears. I love you Tuomas. Fk the haters.

Just remember that only the stuff made by Don Rosa and Carl Barks is worth reading. ;-)

I don't see why paying attention to comments like this, guys. Let others be, we love this work, which I personally think is well done. Hate speech and calling something or someone "faggot" speaks a lot from the person that says such things, so just enjoy the music :D

This is probably the MOST inspiring song i have heard, ever. I love the instruments, Vocals and the whole structure of this song ! When i first listened this i got goosebumbs. Well done Sir holopainen, Well done.

I've just read the full Lo$ story, including the "Related Tales" story this song's based on- this song really captures the feel of that song, especially the usage of RW Service's "Spell Of The Yukon" poem! Holopainen is a great musician!

The Last Sled There’s gold, and it’s haunting and haunting It’s luring me on as of old! Yet it isn’t the gold that I’m wanting so much as just finding the gold! It’s the great, big, broad land ‘way up yonder! The great, broad land ‘way up yonder Haunting him as of old Yet, it ain’t the gold itself So much as finding the gold Farewell, White Agony Creek Farewell, the three long years Can’t leave behind what’s in this sled Things we lost The things we couldn’t share Another rainbow’s end Another memory Fortuna Favet Fortibus! Hold on to all that’s dear to you As the last sled to Dawson finally arrives It’s the forests where silence has lease It’s the beauty that fills me with wonder! It’s the stillness that fills me with peace! The stillness that fills him with peace The beauty of the wild Rainbow’s end with golden dreams Starlit sky and coffee & beans Farewell, White Agony Creek Farewell, the three spring thaws One day I will return to you Things we lost The things we couldn’t share Another rainbow’s end Another memory Fortuna Favet Fortibus! Hold on to all that’s dear to you As the last sled to Dawson finally arrives

I know Don. I knew Carl. Too bad he didn't live long enough to hear this (made it to 99, though). Even into his 90's, Carl used to drive down from Oregon to Prescott, where I live, to sign limited edition prints of his paintings at the publisher Another Rainbow. He was exactly as a fan would hope he would be. I owe Carl Barks a great deal, as do George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, and many others.
