NUCLEARES: Let's meltdown a reactor!

Operating reactors relies on highly trained operators to take corrective actions to prevent casualties from occurring. If no actions are taken, then the reactor is only as safe as the shortest time to lose an element of keeping the reactor actively cooled, within pressure band, and with sufficient level in the reactor. Most reactors could operate days without any operator interaction, but in the case of a failure, they may only have an incredibly short period of time to take action, less than one minute in some cases. Today we will explore what happens if we intentionally operate the reactor unsafely... I'll give you a hint, it ends with the bang. Shout out to RL division on the USS Ronald Reagan for suggesting a core meltdown video. I think I will make another video of a meltdown while outside the building. Even though this game lacks a lot of realism in a lot of different ways, I respect it, because it gives people a general and simple idea on how these facilities work. A PWR might not look anything like that, radiation might not be a glowing green goo, but it does successfully help you understand (to a slight degree) how a PWR, or any reactor for that matter operates. Nice video!

if you evacuate and get away in time before the core blows it will take u to the main menu to start again that's what happens

I just started playing this and had this alarm within an hour lolol. The evac alarm is absolutely terrifying, love it.

Yeah when everything starts going crazy, it is kind of overwhelming. All the panels light up, and the alarms lol. But definitely when you get that evac/ meltdown alarm, that is pretty menacing.

Water is a neutron flux moderator if you boil the core dry the reaction stops

I agree, but sometime temperature drops incredibly fast like the reactor was shutdown and cooled down even though no actions were taken, so it just isn't realistic I would say. I am sure you could prevent a meltdown if you were able to have some emergency cooling.

@@GWHackettsYou are able to open the RCV Valve and enable the feedwater loop and feed to use that as a additional cooling / emergency loop. Wont be as effective as a proper RCIC module but its extra cooling!

I Haven't even been able to eject the fuel normally during a regular shutdown. I'm not sure if I am doing something wrong.

Start up reactor as normal, than override controls at fuel console and extract fuel rod. @@GWHacketts

@@GWHacketts i think the only way to remove the fuel without disableing the safety overides, is when it's completely depleted. otherwise, you can use the safety override switch, and make sure the reactor is in shutdown mode.

Yeah I do that in the second Meltdown video I made. No flow, not cooling, nothing just rods to 0. Works really well.

lol go man everyday a new update for this game i have about 25 hours on easy and 3 gen but that on easy mode

I also play on easy lol Maybe I will try normal, but the maintenance costs can ruin the game if you don't manage it right. Some glitches make the game hard enough, so that's why I like easy, I can absorb more issues that come up from these glitches. Thanks for watching!
