Yeah the way he screams… I could be crazy but it feels like a continuation of the cathartic vocals of kurt. Feels like Radiohead took the torch of subversive rock music from nirvana. I agree, that's why I am so shocked to see so many people on here preferring this version. It's so unsure of itself. The melodies are there. Just not the cohesion. The organ is cool but not Radiohead. I prefer Thom's acapella of the melody Jonny's playing on the organ here. They def honed this into perfection for In Rainbows. This is too sloppy, which can be great...But not after Nude from IR. Plus it does not have Jonny's travis picking, which sounds so good through his AC30.

@LongSinceDead13 жыл бұрын
Dural Desgraçadão Virado na Cachaça It’s pretty obvious this song is portraying a character, it’s not meant to literally be his own perspective. He mentioned in notes and interviews in the 90s that this song was about men who seek fulfillment through the sexual objectification of women. I remember in one entry from the old website he painted the picture of a married businessman eyeing young girls half his age with predatory intentions. While I think the final lyrics are much better, more nuanced and emotionally resonant, the lyrics in this iteration seem pretty critical of the mindset they’re depicting. It’s about a man who has achieved “happiness” (purchased his first home, found a wife, started a family, fulfills the “successful” role as dictated by capitalism) but nonetheless feels empty which results in him satiating that emptiness through hollow, dehumanizing sexual encounters. It can be read as a criticism of the objectification of women and capitalism’s role in perpetuating it. EDIT: here’s Thom’s description of the song from all the way back on the Radiohead website during the OK Computer era: “ nude* it is a mans world. and this one is very confused and will have sex with anything woman who comes within a mile radius. but feels bad about it. so doesnt.”

They played this version on the OKC tour. I vividly remember them playing this “Banana Co,” and “Killer Cars,” which I hadn’t heard despite already having been a superfan and hunting down their b-sides for years. I love the passion in this version ... but In Rainbows is an undeniably GORGEOUS album. Kid A will always be my favorite, but In Rainbows (and the second disc) ... it has an undeniable quality to it. I really wish Thom had won the Hail To The Thief fight, that album was recorded in two weeks, and it’s a great album and all, but when you compare it to their other releases - I feel like if they had given it 4-6 months even it would’ve come out even better. I still cannot freaking believe they wrote the 30, (34 at least if you’re counting the different versions of spinning plates and morning bell) mindblowingly original songs in just about a year. To pull that off after just getting off the OK Computer tour is almost Beatles level “whaaaaaat the eff did they do?! How?!!!”
@ginzo6663 жыл бұрын
Radiohead is superior to the Beatles. The Beatles never went to the top of totally different genre. I listen to a lot more electronic music than rock. Kid A was a serious accomplishment for a rock band!
@RustinChole3 жыл бұрын
@@ginzo666 so was Sgt Pepper man. They recorded that on two 4 tracks they connected together. Maybe you can’t appreciate that not having experienced the serious limitations working with that kinda gear presents. Strawberry Fields Forever is just as big a leap from “please please me” that kid a was from Pablo. Also. It’s irritating when people lob opinions like they’re facts. I literally mentioned the Beatles once and you had to take the time to say “NO. My opinion is right yours is wrong!” That’s why I rarely check these comments.
@RustinChole3 жыл бұрын
@@ginzo666 also. If it’s true you were an electro head pre kid a you DEFINITELY remember that Aphex Twin (who LOVED OKC) and Warp record aficionados, saw Kid A as a pure rip off of existing music. So there’s that too. The song “kid a” - as much as I love it, can be sourced from Aphex Twin’s come to daddy EP. The slowed down voice. The synth pads. The soft drums and music box like melody.🤷🏻♂️ No ones superior to anyone buddy. You just think the Beatles weren’t as good. I think they were. They wrote their entire catalogue of wide ranging music in just 7 years. Radiohead couldn’t do that. Not saying that makes either better. Just saying they’re both great and music isn’t a popularity contest.
@ginzo6663 жыл бұрын

I think I've got a prrety good grasp on what the original song means (at least to me). Can anyone who thinks they know interpretion this verse let me know though?- Soulless reflection In the other person's eyes Death bed, first home Damaged good, subject Object none I would assume "Souless reflection in the other persons eyes" would either refer to surrounding yourself with people who have painted themselves white (are willfully blind to their true humanity and emotionational state) and filling themselves with noise (hedonistic distraction) OR it's about the cowardice of staying in a loveless relationship because the pain of leaving is worse than the pain of staying. I think it's far more likely to be the former though. Death bed, first home? Is this referring to being so damaged at a young age that your first home figuratively becomes a death bed for your dreams? Damaged good, subject, object none? Really struggling with this one. Sounds like someone shutting down into complete dissociation I guess?
