To add to Mental's commentary about being unable to hold certain jobs with certain neurodivergent conditions: I was speaking last night with a board member of my local EAA chapter, who is in part responsible for deciding who receives the chapter's annual flight training scholarships. One of the recent winners was unable to obtain an FAA medical certificate because he'd been diagnosed with ADHD, even though he hadn't taken medication for it in years. Supposedly an ADHD diagnosis also eliminates one from consideration for a CDL and I'm sure other potential career ramifications I don't know anything about, so I'd strongly advise parents of "energetic" children to not take them to a doctor who may be inclined to make such a diagnosis unless the situation is truly dire. The FAA is moving toward making ADHD not a lifelong disqualifying condition, but it hasn't happened yet and given their average pace I don't expect it to happen for some time.

Solid advice and thank you. It is hilarious the FAA does that, given how many neurodivergents I know in aviation. These barriers and well-intentioned but unfounded policies contribute to masking behaviors and that unchecked, can bring on some pretty ruthless self-rumination.
