superb interview. I learnt a lot just listening to this, felt like I was a student in the uni listenimg to this professor. Answering one question put to him, I feel that in the Sinhalese culture in Sri Lanka, not Tamil, instrumental music is an anathema. Sinhalese always look for the vocalist, never the musician. I have made it my purpose in musical life to teach our concert organizers to always introduce the musicians, not just the vocalists. The vocalists are less than effective without th musicians. Dinesh Subasinghe has taken up this challenge somewhat. When Pradeep came to Montreal many years ago, I had great difficulty selling tickets to the Sri lankans in Montreal. Non-Sri Lankan Candians flocked to listen to his concert. Recently Dinuk Wijeratna performed in Montreal, I tried to entice Sri Lankan to attend, I saw only one Tamil family with two children in that audience. Perhaps, the symphony orchestra should do free outdoor concerts for people to come and listen; and the opportunity could be used for people like Pradeep, Kalani and the other musicians to perform.
