I read an Arizona mine report from 1930's.It addressed every mining area, named the mines and stated all activity that had occurred from the 1860's.Many of the mines reworked the earlier tailing piles as the technology to extract the metals had improved so I would be surprised if those reworked tailings had anything of value for detectorist.Dredge piles would be another thing as many things could cause a floating dredge to dump out the gold that was in the sluices before the clean out.Hitting a layer of clay caused many to lose a week or more of production. This was learned by reading the logs kept by the operators.Finding a 5 ounce nugget or larger is common because the classifiers were kicking out the big stuff, too.

gold-quartz specimens - sometimes containing up to many ounces of gold were tossed out as the average density of the gold plus quartz was not that great to be caught in the sluice. You'd also be surprised at the nuggets tossed out of modern slice boxes - sometimes they push things too fast or let the sluice box pack up with cons and gold escapes. I found a 3/4 ounce nugget in Alaska in modern placer mine tailings piles with my metal detector.

Thanks Chris. That’s a good realistic video. Not just hype and big fake pics of gold that wasn’t found there 😄

From what I understand, metal detecting in iron ferrous material is tricky. For some reason it tends to cancel out what would otherwise be a good reading.

Iron can affect the readings.

Often there's good ore in the dumps. These guys were working with candle / carbide / incandescent low level lighting and often miners were near blind because of the lack of optometry. And glasses if they got ahold of a pair wouldn't last long in the mining environment.

Howdy, I Recently Found Your Channel & Quite Enjoyed Your Info! Your Not As Funny or Animated As Jeff Williams, Butt More Like A College Professor... LOL Yet There Is One Point That I Wanted To Make? At The End You Claimed Not To Find Any Gold, You Found Alum & Brass. Well I Too Have Been Far Off Into Places & Found Where Over The Years People Have Lived "Ghost-Towns" or Made A Shooting Range, ETC! Such In 2006, I Lived In Phx AZ For 52 Years, I Bought A New Polaris 750 4x4 "Like A Jeep" & We Went Out By Horse-Shoe Lake N/of Scottsdale, I Untrailered It & We Took A 1/2+hr Long Test Drive Up A Side Road/Wash For A Couple Miles, Found A Make Shift Shooting Range/Camp! I Noticed Brass & Alum Cans Everywheres For 100 Yards Area In Front Of A Big Flat Embankment! Well I Had Couple 5 Gal Buckets Of Misc Stuff "Rope, Hand Tools+" In Back, Soo I Dumped Them Out & Me + My Girlfriend Started Picking The Grounds Clean Of All For 2hrs Til She Started Gettin Bitchy/Hot!? See I Recycle Everything In Life, Live With NO Trash Pickup At All For Last 20+ Years, Live On An Acre That L@@Ks Like A Junk Yard Also! LMAO Butt I Know The Value Of Metals! Point Was I Went On A Joy Ride w/My X In My New $16+K Polaris & Actually Stumbled Across Over $300 In Recycle Metals That I Hadn't Planned On, I Always Wanted To Go Back w/My Metal Detector & Pick The Lead Outta That Hill Too, Yet Never Did... ;~(P Soo Even A Bad Day Can Show Y'alls Some Profits & Fun, Ifin Ya Use You Eyes & Head Right!!! LOL Thanks Chris You'd Be A Fun Guy To Hang With!!!

If you like bullets and nails and rusted cans and junk go waste a bunch of money on a metal detector. That's all you're gonna find

No,that is what YOU find. I've found pounds of gold.
