Very well done. You put a lot of work into that. Enjoyed it! Monty's win out for me. They have the responsiveness and open quality I like.

I put a set of Monty’s and one of his 50’s harnesses into my Navigator N-LP-480 and was a big difference there as well! The neck pickup doesn’t get wooly at all any more. The combo of the Alnico 5 neck and alnico 2 bridge just works so well. Playing them through my Carr Skylark and they just sound unreal.

I put the same in my 2020 Gibson Les Paul 50’s reissue. The proof is in a band context. They are full and vibrant, and cut through the mix really well.

interesting video - I hear more clarity from Häussel. For me, Monty conveys more to the middle/nose in your demonstration. Thanks for the effort in comparing

I got a Haussel 59 (8.5k peak) on a newly acquired Nik Huber. Fantastic openness, silky highs. It was a shock after playing on higher outputs PU for a long time. They only lack a bit of knack in the high mids for my taste, so I tried to swap them for a Blackdog (9.4k peak) from BKP. Still in trial but might have too much mids and growl. Will proceed to try a Cream T BFG (8.9k peak) to find the sweet spot between PAF and a bit more punch. But the dynamics in the Haussel are insane... Too bad the + version is already 11k peak, probably too hot already.

Hi Sylvain - what did you end up settling on for your Huber? I have Huber Orca 59 and I really like the Hauessel 59’s, but I too want more of that high mid bite that the Monty’s see to give. Wondering if you’ve found something that works well in the Huber guitar.

@@pauldkellett I have gotten the Cream T I mentioned and it didn't leave my guitar ever since. It's a shame because the Haussel 59 is an absolute killer and I wish I had another Krautster to put it in. Though I could imagine it to be fantastic in an Orca.

2 years later, the Haussel has been back in the guitar for a while and won't move for now. I acquired a Gold Top LP that I want to use for that classic PAF sound, and I might try to fit the Nik Huber with a pickup a tiny bit smoother, probably an ALNICO 4. Might try a Sunbear or a Lindy Fralin. But that Haussel eventually is really really cool.

Great demo!! 👍👍 Really appreciate it! I like the Monty's. Cheers.

I notice one very important difference, when chords are strummed, the Haussels sound like one whole sound, full, but muddy, the Mont'y sound like a chorus of sounds, distinct and separate, you can pick out the notes made by each string. Monty's won this by a country mile!

Very effective and efficient comparison video. Can you tell me what Les Paul you’re playing? I’m particularly interested in knowing if it’s chambered, weight relieved or not weight relieved. Thank you.
@MikeDiFiore4 жыл бұрын
Its a 2005 standard - traditional weight relief (Swiss cheese), heavy (just over 10lbs), faber locking bridge, aluminium 'tone tail' tailpiece.

How is that pickguard mounted??? I can’t see that it’s got the usual lift screw
@MikeDiFiore4 жыл бұрын
It screws into the pickup surrounds. A few years ago they were available from a guy called Bobby Lee, but they seem to have since disappeared.

The Häussel has that hollow honk, flat response. That's what I love. I have to get a pair. This was very helpful, thanks a lot. The Montys are too boomy and undefined, at least for my taste.

I prefer the Monty`s, more sonority and liveliness.

Montys have more treble mid articulation and Haussel sound telecaster thin and mildly out of focus... enjoy... it is all so subjective. Nice job with the same repeat riffs. It would be interesting as to what magnets the Montys and the Haussels both have.... that in and of itself makes your pick attack and style shine... a pickup is really just that... how it feels and sounds to you is all that really matters at the end of the day.
