@@Billy_MacBilly many people who picked up banjos and guitars in the US came from Ulster and settled in Appalachia and the deep south. The banjo was an African instrument I believe so it would be picked up in the American continent first. But the way you can really tell if a song has American origins is if it has a 12 Bar blues chord progression. Whereas ulster and Irish music takes more the form of 3 stanza ballads.
