Wandering DP a bit of a one trick pony. There's more than one way to skin a shot. (thinking of my vegan friends before I finished that cliché). I've heard that guy crap on some great cinematography in his analysis videos just because they don't happen to fall into his very narrow "shoot into the L of the room and light from upstage" routine. It's basic stuff and a decent fallback plan or starting point, but it's far form the only way to light a scene/shot. It's become a disease on KZbin "content creators" footage. People who cry foul when there's not enough neg fill in a shot or, heaven forbid, a shot is lit broadside rather than narrow side, or...uh oh...FRONT ON!!!..oh my god...we can't light front on!!!! 😁 It's all pretty amusing to seasoned DoPs. As a producer, I'd never book a DoP with such a narrow view and skillset. I'm not shitting on you here Mr. Carter, but that Wandering DP guy is setting people up to be very narrow minded about the way they light. I hope his disciples grow out of his schtick sooner rather than later. I know I'm not the only one who thinks this.
