Missed the stream watching my Bruins, watched it a little later. I'm definitely going to spend more time on skills away from the track this year compared to last year. Last year I helped coach the new rider clinic and did an inter/expert clinic with the kids. Getting coaching was great - but with the schedule this year that would put me at the track every night, just can't do it. Going to spend way more time at the pump track, and some trail riding on the fatbike. Going to do more races away from my home track this year (3rd year as inter, 41-45, started BMX @40). Excited to get some good races with a bunch of old guys on the gate. Coach G - I know you talk about specificity with doing short sprints and full recovery - for older guys, I think some longer work can be valuable - lets you recover faster and get more quality reps in the time you have at the track. Depends on where you are for fitness, for sure. As far as kids go - and Coach, you've mentioned playing football in HS - I am a big believer as a coach in other sports of not specializing too soon. If you're a 12yo - play hockey, soccer, basketball, tennis, badminton, swimming, speed skating, skiing, or whatever. Do some other things with other movements. Strength training - I'm still struggling with trying to put together a good workout. The day you livestreamed your workout was terrific.

Hey Couch! I’ve seen lots of people with tall seats on their bikes. I would like to buy one for my bike, but I don’t know where to buy one. My bike has a 27.2 mm seatpost, but all of them I’ve found, aren’t tall enough. Where can I buy one?
@brynndle1899 Жыл бұрын
On second thought, do they use seatpost extenders?
@MarktheShark824 Жыл бұрын
@@brynndle1899 yep! seat post extenders are what they use. you don't need anything fancy just to get the job done.

There is never a substitute for time on the bike. But for those of us in cold climates where riding is not possible for 5 months, we must do some sort of cross training. I do crossfit because I like the variety and requirement to go hard without taking 5 minute breaks between sets. That makes it "not boring" and encourages me to get to the gym. But there are indeed a lot of olympic lifts. IMO just don't do that stuff too heavy. Sacrifice weight for speed and technique and work hard and fast.
