I like to think Miriam (and everyone else, by proxy, because they all would have known Miriam) was being taught a lesson in humility. Having a disease like leprosy would have been embarrassing and humiliating, as would being put outside the camp. In other words, God gave her leprosy of the skin to help heal her leprosy of the mouth. So to speak. No pun intended.

Pastor Skip, Josephus tells us that when Moses was living in Egypt he was General of the army who defeated the Ethiopians and he married an Ethiopian Princess which formed an alliance with the two nations. So she was actually his FIRST wife. She must have joined him later. Also Aaron was the High Priest so if he had leprosy he would not have been able to continue to be High Priest. I think we all need to think carefully before we grumble and complain and I doubt there are any of us innocent of this.

1And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2Send thou men, that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a ruler among them. 3And Moses by the commandment of the LORD sent them from the wilderness of Paran: all those men were heads of the children of Israel.

Were Aaron and Miriam just racist or were they mad that Moses was spiritually above them?

Pastor Skip Numbers 12:1 is a very interesting verse “Then Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married; for he had married an Ethiopian woman.” Numbers 12:1 NKJV First of all you’ll need to understand what Ethiopian women looks like for you to kinda understand what’s going on. I believe Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses wife simply because she was a BLACK woman. Some other bibles refer to Moses wife as a Cushite woman. In short there was some kind of racism going on…

Moses' Ethiopian wife was called Tharpa. He actually married her before Zipporah while he was conducting a military campaign for Pharaoh as an Egyptian General. She was his prize for defeating Ethiopia after an uprising. The story is recorded in Josephus' the Antiquities of the Jews.
