Probably the most competent display of nunchucks I've ever seen. At range, the kendoka can easily poke and circle. And he's lightning fast. You could see the nunchaku user ready to block the head strike but the judoka's speed and reflexes are simply faster. But the moment the nunchu user enters his range, it's over. Parry/block and flurry of strikes.

Some really skilled fighters on this channel. Normally, I'd imagine this battle to be overwhelmingly one sided towards the sword, but the nunchaku fighter really blew me away by actually landing some solid and complex strikes and defences.
@silkyjohns0n2 жыл бұрын
The only thing is, coming that close to someone with a real sword would be incredibly dangerous. He makes a lot of fantastic close range strikes that would certainly injure the swordsman. But he is constantly touching the blade of the sword. The kendo player tried to make kendo strikes, ie with the top end of the shinai. There were times he could have just slid is sword down cutting the forearms, chest, face and body of his opponent. Also there were several times that he raised his sword to cover his head, exposing his body. The no. 1 defense in kendo is your stance, ie. keeping your sword tip forward.
@seraphinaaizen62782 жыл бұрын
I think the reason why the nunchaku looked so effective is because they're very fast, and because he's got one in both hands he's got a lot of options for creating opening in strikes; but he was only able to do so because that isn't a real sword, and his opponent is using kendo. In a real fight, his weapons would be hilariously impractical. They're so small and light that I don't think they'd really do much to even an unarmored opponent, while the swordsman only has to land a single blow to the head or torso to effectively end the fight (and he was able to land them at will, almost. In a real scenario, the swordsman could effectively ignore the nunchuks and just run his opponent through). To extend the scenario where, realistically, a soldier on the battlefield would not only be wearing armor but also fighting with a spear instead of a sword, and the nunchaku would be completely useless. Nunchaku are essentially an invention of popculture rather than reality.

Nice display of skill on both parts. I think however that the sword comes out on top most of the time. Not only did the sword hit more times, but the nunchaku often hit after the swordsman landed a blow to the head, which is very unlikely to happen with a sharp sword. The clean hits the nunchaku did land were usually to the body and while they would hurt, they would probably not stop the swordsman. Nunchaku aren’t as bad as some people would have you believe, but I definitely would place my bets on the swordsman in a hypothetical live weapon scenario.
@Zaxares Жыл бұрын
Agreed with your assessment. It's also worth noting that the kendoka in this video is VERY good (I believe he placed 3rd in the World Kendo Championships a few years back); his strikes are amazingly fast. Depending on the swordsman's skill, the speed and fairly unusual attack patterns of a nunchaku user might confuse them long enough for them to close and land debilitating blows to the arms, neck or face. But yeah, assuming both combatants were armed with real weapons and armored appropriately, I would definitely bet on the swordsman; nunchaku are dangerous but they don't really have the raw mass or the focused impact points that maces or warhammers (which were actually specifically designed to counter the ever-increasingly prevalence of plate armor on the battlefield) necessary to punch through heavy armor.

The point of my comment was that most if not all of the wins they gave the nunchuck user was faulty as they would not be fight ending. Hence understanding how weapon work...something you don't however as you blanket state that a blunt weapon loses vs an edged one. A mace most certainly has an advantage vs a knife. A war flail would do well vs a sword...and they have a video to show that. The problem with the nunchucks isn't that it is blunt...the issue is lack of lethality. @@ColdNapalm42 Not if the nunchucker knows how to fight with them, you can control the distance between you and the swordsman, and at first only go for the hands and wrist of your opponent which holds the sword, that way you keep out of range, with one strike on the wrist or hand, they can no longer hold the sword. And you may land that strike first as your strikes with the chucks will be faster. With a single chuck, a longer chain, you may be able to block the strikes, and with the figure 8 motion side to side you may be able to create a barrier which will deflect the swords strikes.

Yeah, those area do get hit...but not as often as people think they do. So you assume that your nunchuck user is good enough to target hands and succeed and the swordman is...what a moron to just let that happen and stand still? Hands and wrist are hard to target when they are not moving. When they are just moving normally, it is EXTREMELY hard. @@ColdNapalm42 If I was to hit your hand myself with even a light wood chuck, I'd fracture your hand and wrist on one shot, guaranteed. @makeithappenbourriht9632 жыл бұрын
@@elleCX01 Lol out of all armors that was avaiable in Asia you chose to assume European armor? Even if this battle is very unlikely, it is much more unlikely for them to wear European armor lol. I said it takes one slice for the katana to end you, i didnt say it would pierce through their armor. It can of course, depending on what quality armor they have, but the point with any weapon attacking armor is to find unarmored spots. And the most lethal weapon to do that with is the katana. It is not the samurais main weapon for no reason. Even knowing that they are going against armor. And where does your assumption come from that a samurai weilding nunchaku wouldnt wear full armor against a katana weilding samurai? Samurai armor is meant to be light and open for more agility. So even though it still limits your movement in some way, it is highly unlikely that a samurai wouldnt wear armor going against another samurai with katana fighting only with nunchaku. I mean what battle are you trying to vision here lol. A non armored samurai weilding nunchaku against a samurai with European armor weilding a katana? In a war or in a duel? It is already hard to vision this but you bringing up the nunchaku guy being non armored against a katana with European armor is just insane lol. Never thought of holding the nunchucks like 2 daggers for protection

🤔🤔the nunchaku require to be swinged in order to gain momentum and do a strike that might create a contusion while the sword can pierce with a frontal hand movement (quicker than a lateral strike done with a swing motion ), also if the sword is stopped you can slide it down while retreating from the stopped strike using the blade length to cut or injure an additional area of the target while with the nunchaku if they are stopped the stick can’t do any more damage and the only thing that it could do is be pressed against a pressure point in any given area or use its chain to entangle the target or its weapon (which only will immobilize it instead of injuring it), hence the sword being more effective and lethal than the nunchaku. Even though the nunchaku is an excellent portable staff with many less lethal applications and some lethal ones requiring more momentum than the sword. Excellent demonstration though from both practitioners 😎👍

What's all this "slide it down while retreating from the stopped strike using the blade length to cut or injure an additional area of the target?" The word you're looking for here is drawcut 🙂

Personally a 2 sectioned staff or 3 sectioned staff would be better.

Honestly nunchaku did better than I expected it would.

Well, in this case the nunchaku has a lot more advantages than in a real fight situation.

If you want to know how nunchaku work in war, look Ling Tong in Dinasty Warrior.

One thing is for sure. Nunchucks is better than having nothing and being unarmed against a sword. The nunchuck guy is not even holding them at the end giving the most reach and power. What a shame

The only way possible nunchaku beats Katana is on the offense by swarming the samurai. If the samurai is on the offensive, there's little to no chance for the Nunchaku Ka

Did not expect nunchucks to do so well

They didn’t. If you actually watch the video the kendo guy would have killed him several times over considering in a real fight his sword would be bladed.

I can see the girl deliberately avoid the hand because the guy is not wearing gauntlet. If she aim for the hand, his hand should be off in seconds
