Il giardino Bellini (o Villa Bellini) è uno dei due giardini più antichi e uno dei quattro parchi principali di Catania. Localmente è spesso indicato semplicemente come "'a Villa".
Il nucleo più antico del giardino risale al Settecento ed apparteneva al principe Ignazio Paternò Castello di Biscari, che lo aveva voluto secondo le tipologie di allora con siepi strutturate a formare labirinti, decorazione di statue nei vialetti e numerose fontane di varia foggia a zampillo d'acqua o a cascatelle. Tale concezione architettonica gli aveva valso proprio il nome di Labirinto. Il giardino era affidato ad abili giardinieri tra i quali il primo fu Pietro Paolo Arcidiacono e in seguito Giuseppe Squillaci. Dopo la morte del principe mecenate, avvenuta il 1º dicembre 1786, il giardino decadde progressivamente a causa dell'abbandono da parte degli eredi. Venne proposto in vendita a partire dal 1820 ma solo dopo un lungo periodo di trattative, il 29 settembre 1854 il Labirinto venne acquistato dal comune di Catania dalla proprietaria Anna Moncada Paternò Castello, discendente dagli eredi del principe.
La "Villa" venne inaugurata il 6 gennaio 1883 e divenne presto abituale meta delle famiglie catanesi che vi portavano i bambini a giocare mentre passeggiavano conversando con gli amici.
The Bellini garden (or Villa Bellini) is one of the two oldest gardens and one of the four main parks in Catania. Locally it is often referred to simply as "'a Villa".
The oldest part of the garden dates back to the eighteenth century and belonged to Prince Ignazio Paternò Castello di Biscari, who had wanted it according to the typologies of the time with hedges structured to form labyrinths, decoration of statues in the paths and numerous fountains of various shapes water or waterfalls. This architectural concept had earned him the name of Labyrinth. The garden was entrusted to skilled gardeners among whom the first was Pietro Paolo Arcidiacono and later Giuseppe Squillaci. After the death of the patron prince, which took place on 1 December 1786, the garden gradually declined due to the abandonment by the heirs. It was offered for sale from 1820 but only after a long period of negotiations, on 29 September 1854 the Labyrinth was purchased by the municipality of Catania from the owner Anna Moncada Paternò Castello, descended from the prince's heirs.
The "Villa" was inaugurated on January 6 1883, and soon became the usual destination for the families of Catania who brought the children to play there while they walked talking with friends.
