Vielen Dank für solch ein anschauliches Video, das uns die Realität vor Augen führt: Viele Orte im schönen alten Nürnberg werden nie wieder übertroffen werden und nur in Erinnerung bleiben. Tut natürlich weh zu sehen, aber man darf auch anerkennen, dass in Nürnberg vergleichsweise viel halbwegs ordentlich wieder aufgebaut wurde. Schau mal nach Frankfurt, wo vor kurzem erst nach ewigen Diskussionen ein winziger Teil der Altstadt rekonstruiert wurde. Von Stuttgart oder Köln will ich gar nicht anfangen. Ich finde Nürnberg gehört definitiv zu den schönsten deutschen Großstädten, zusammen mit München, Dresden, Heidelberg, Lübeck und mittlerweile auch Potsdam.

Sehe ich leider gar nicht so. Im Gegenteil, Nürnberg würde scheusslich wiederaufgebaut, mit endlosen Reihen dieser inferioren, spiessigen, vorstädtischen Fünfzigerjahre-Architektur. Die Meinung, der Wiederaufbau sei "gelungen", kann man eigentlich nur haben, wenn man das Vorkriegsnürnberg nicht kennt. Man stelle sich einmal Florenz oder Venedig vor mit diesen Mietskasernen an zentralen Plätzen in der Innenstadt - undenkbar!

I was in Nuremberg 2 years ago . Compared to other cities the restoration is not too bad , although they could have done a lot better in certain parts of the city centre .There are some quite ugly modern buildings in the main central square , and maybe with time they will be rebuilt . As I often say , it is possible to be modern and beautiful !

La reconstruction n'est pas franchement ratée, on a vu bien pire. Mais ce qui a disparu est irremplaçable, une des villes historiques les plus exceptionnelles d'Europe, comparable à Sienne ou Florence. Ces maisons allemandes avec leurs hautes toitures sont impressionnantes, certaines ont jusqu'à 6 niveaux de combles !

Not just Germany, I think the world lost an amazing city when Nuremberg was destroyed. I do wonder though: since it was considered a major city (second to Munich in Bavaria), had it survived the war, would it still be the same or would the government have modernized parts of it? Thanks for posting this video, along with others that show it in its pre-war splendor. I wish I could have walked through it before the war. What an experience to walk through the narrow streets and look up at such marvelous facades.

Was mir gut gefällt ist, dass beim Wiederaufbau versucht wurde die kleinteiligen Baukörper einschließlich der Dachgauben wieder aufzubauen. Leider erkennt man auf den zweiten Blick die öden Fassaden der vermutlich von den örtlichen Wohnungsbaugesellschaften errichteten Häuser. Vielleicht irre ich mich aber auch.

Ja das stimmt, Nürnberg hat gegenüber den meisten westdeutschen Städten vieles besser gemacht. Es ist dennoch erschreckend, dass die Stadt Nürnberg seit Jahren den Wiederaufbau des kompletten Pellerhauses verhindert!

@@ArchitekturTV The current (modern) Pellerhaus facade is ugly (I'm not against modern architecture but this is not a good example of it, and replacing an iconic building with something so radically different is just wrong). As a foreigner who decades ago fell in love with Nuremberg (and have been back several times), I wish it would be restored.

It's not true that there's nothing left, quite a lot of it did get reconstructed. Just compare Nuremberg to Frankfurt, another formerly unique medieval city. Also, the destruction can't solely be blamed on the Allies in this case (unlike Dresden for example). Much of Nuremberg was damaged when American ground troops took the city in battle.

Yes it does. The area called Sebald and no building survived there. People called it „Sebalder Wüste“ which means Sebalder desert because of the sandstone ruins. In front of the Pellerhouse is a statue from Kaiser Wilhelm, you can see some bullet holes on it.

Oh my good! Everything has gone except for the church, town hall and the castle. Everything else is “look a like buildings” or quite new buildings. Cool though you have kept the streets more or less as they were. I think a visit to Nuremberg must be a terrible disappointment for most of us, thinking of Nuremberg as a very old Middle Age town.

I do recommend not to visit Nuremberg. It is indeed a huge disappointment. Also, the city officials are quite happy with their inferior reconstruction and actually put up hurdles to anyone who wants to go for a full, authentic reconstruction.

Man muss aber auch Wahrheitsgemäß sagen, das es für Zahlreiche Hinterhofbebauungen heute keinen Grund mehr gebe, und die hygienischen Bedingungen der alten Häuser nicht optimal waren, ich kenne alte Nürnberger die sagen, das sich durch den erzwungenen Neubau sich das erst zum besseren gewandelt hat (wtl: "um die alten Häuser wars ned schade") und nicht zu vergessen Gespenster wie die autogerechte Stadt haben wir auch noch ihre Schneisen geschlagen, das alles sollte man mit in Erwägung ziehen, wenn man damals mit heute vergleicht

Natürlich wären heute alle Häuser saniert und mit moderner TGA Technik ausgestattet. Die Altstadt wäre dann bestimmt ein Unesco Welkulturerbe.
