A video about the underground line U1 at Nuremberg (Frankonia/Bavaria, Germany). U1 has its eastern end at Langwasser-Süd. It passes under part of the quarter of Langwasser in a tunnel. At Scharfreiterring station the line is at ground level, running in the middle of Otto-Bärnreuther-Straße. There also tracks to and from the underground workshop turn out.
The underground line leads on (still above ground) via Langwasser-Nord to the city center. The center is passed in a tunnel. West of the city center the line emerges from the tunnel again. At Eberhardshof station trains can reverse. The line runs at ground level there in the middle of Fürther Straße. From Muggenhof to Stadtgrenze station the line is elevated. The elevated part of the line is a simple construction of concrete. It runs close to the
railway line from Nuremberg to Fürth, the oldest railway line in Germany.
The line then changes to a tunnel again, passing under the city of Fürth. From Fürth Rathaus (town hall) 2 single track tunnels lead to Fürth central station. Fürth Hardhöhe is the western terminus of the line.
Underground line U1 is operated with trains of class G1. They were introduced in 2015 and have replaced the older trains of classes DT1 and DT2.
These pictures were taken during the Protestant Kirchentag (Church meeting) 2023 in Nürnberg. The transport company VAG, i.e. Verkehrs-Aktiengesellschaft Nürnberg, has taken all those many additional passengers at this large event to their destinations, e.g with underground trains at short intervals. Well done!
