I had surgery few years back, woke up in the recovery room with 4 female nurses hovering over me giggling and my gown lifted up to my chest. I kinda sat up a bit, they realized I was starting to come to it a bit, one quick pulled my gown down and the other 3 left the room right away. I got some other WILD stories of female nurses doing stuff to male patients, mostly unconscious Male patients under anesthesia. Ya I view female nurses differently too, heard WAY too many stories and stuff I personally experienced. And even the female nurses who dont do this stuff but turn a blind eye to the ones that do and dont report them are JUST as complicit, they absolutely would report it if it were male hospital workers doing this to unconscious female patients but they ignore it because its being done to male patients by female nurses

I worked in healthcare for 10 years and left the field. NOT as a nurse thank goodness but I do work side by side to them in the hospital. They are just horrible human beings. I don't curse, I am not loud person, I am not obnoxious. So I am usually a good target to them... my coworkers who are more loud never were. I now work from home making less than I did before but I am completely happy. Mental stress is better now. I never have to deal with them again. My advice is if you are not a narcisst, bully, mean spirited person.. do not go into the nursing field. for your own sanity.

@Katherine_Ann I get what that person is saying. I was miserable when I started working in the nursing home and yes she got it on point they are narcist and gaslighting is a religious practice in the the nursing home field. When I found another job outside of the field I remember driving and i was wondering why I felt soo happy and it hit me I have been out out the field for a whole week. I’m a student nurse that got targeted by nurse employees that resulted in my placement termination. I do the exact same job outside of being a student nurse as an assistant nurse and have no problem. The politics very real, the hierarchy is the most extreme I’ve seen, I have above average marks but a comment from one negative nurse can ruin my whole career/life. This is a negative cycle, showing future nurses what they can do to fresh nurses, starting out if they do not like their attitude towards their seniority. Extremely sad for a profession that is the representation of compassion, care and empathy. Kelp your head low, go buy that coffee, play your cards right young nurses.

I’m a new hire nurse in the ED and another nurse overheard the nurse supervisor for the night shift till my preceptor to overload me with patients and drown me. 😮. This nurse decided to take on the forth patient that night. She has become a buddy to me and we are now watching out for each other. I did speak to my preceptor about it and he said he had no intention of doing something like that. 😢. I’m feeling very unsafe working in that ED.

I see nurse bullying a lot in nursing homes and in retirement centers, it upsets me how people out there can be a bit unprofessional and when new hires come in they make them do everything for them which isn't right. I believe you are there to do your own job and work not be gossiping and bullying other staff around. and it sucks sometimes because working in those types of places a lot of people won't say anything about the situation because they don't want no drama in the workplace lol

That's pitiful . Being bullied in a chronic care facility. The standard of excellence is passing pills ... I'm pretty sure the bullies have a reason if the said nurse is lacking skills. ICU yes I totally understand. A nursing home is where most nurses who can't cut the mustard are pigeon holed.

Well said, women are very mean in general and petty, because they are very emotional, they like or don't like a person in just 5 seconds when they meet that person for the first time, and you are telling me people like that will run the world. @@vovanminh999 i sadly have to agree with you. If you had said these words a couple of years ago i would have been mad but after changing different jobs and now being in nursing school i can say that women are their worst enemies. They always speak about feminism and how we should stick together but then they do the opposite. Every time i worked with women there was so much gossiping, back stabbing and bullying that it was unbearable. They can even make you lose your job just because they decide they don't like you, as it happened to me and some other women i know. While, when i worked in some shifts with men it was amazing. I never heard them gossiping or backstabbing or bullying. They help each other, make jokes and give honest advice. So, this happens in every job. I think it is just a bit worse in nursing because it is mostly women while in other jobs there are the same number of men and women. It is really making me hate my future job as a nurse so i am really thinking whether to continue ir give up. I think that nowadays it is hard to be a stay at home mom because wages are so low, at least here in Italy, and most of the time a single salary from the man can't mantain a family. Plus there is also social pressure to be successful women but they are ruining workplace interactions with their games. I hope to be a stay at home mom with a loving husband and children one day. I am much happier when i am in that kind of relationship.

OR nurses are a different breed entirely and that was why I quit the job that I enjoyed so much. If it's not the surgeon shouting at the nurses in the room, it's my nurse preceptors always throwing me under the bus or the nurse manager that refused to do a thing about it. CRNAs tend to look down on OR nurses, the surg techs are extremely disrespectful because they see surgery as their territory and nurses as having no knowledge about surgery in general. A nurse that had zero nursing experience was paid more than me while I was told coming in that my pay was based on the experience I had as a pediatric nurse. After orientation I begged for adjustment to my schedule because the shift would end at 11pm; but I was refused. That time of the day is way too late to be coming off from work, but some nurses were allowed flexibility in their schedule. There was never enough PCAs to help in moving the patient from bed to table and vice versa. I can't count the number of times I was injured at work and management didn't even care. In the end one could say that I was severely burnt out.

I am a relatively newly qualified nurse, in the UK, and when I started my job on the ward, no one wanted to help me, they gave me difficult patients on purpose and complained when I said I didn't know how to handle XYZ and that I couldn't do some things due to not being trained, and being unable to work outside of my competency. They destroyed my confidence, I had 2 weeks off work with stress. I was constantly being berated and thrown under the bus for every minor thing. I was denied annual leave for 8 months. Constantly walking on eggshells, it's very draining, always in fight or flight mode, and it makes you feel physically sick. I was ambushed by my manager and the matron of the surgical division. I felt like vomiting after. I was told randomly out of nowhere to go upstairs and meet with my manager, I asked why and was told they didn't know. I went up there, and they put a chair in front of them as if I was on trial, and they were the judges sentencing me. Then the matron of the surgical division sneered at me and proclaimed, "You know why you're here," and I actually didn't, which made me look and feel like a complete idiot!. It was awful!. I was accused of not doing something correctly and I just felt it was unnecessary. I've been thrown under the metaphorical bus more times than I can remember, been shouted at by Dr's as well because of THEIR lack of communication with me. The blame culture and nurse on nurse bullying is all too real. I didn't quit because I worked so hard to get my nursing degree and they won't take this away from me. Stay safe out there fellow nurses! ❤
