hi ❤I am from Libya. I am studying at the College of Nursing and will specialize in surgery. I have a certificate from an institute where I work as a surgical nurse. Is it possible for it to be counted as experience before graduation? I have 5 years of experience before I graduated from nursing school

I am like you. I think there is a time and a place for medical intervention. But as a geriatric nurse for 5+ years who was a geriatric CNA for 5 years before that, I see people taking 15-20 meds EVERY SINGLE DAY! Why 🤯🤯 ?? I would never want to be like that! Is it really benefitting them? I tend to think not.

I am a relatively newly qualified nurse, in the UK, and when I started my job on the ward, no one wanted to help me, they gave me difficult patients on purpose and complained when I said I didn't know how to handle XYZ and that I couldn't do some things due to not being trained, and being unable to work outside of my competency. They destroyed my confidence, I had 2 weeks off work with stress. I was constantly being berated and thrown under the bus for every minor thing. I was denied annual leave for 8 months. Constantly walking on eggshells, it's very draining, always in fight or flight mode, and it makes you feel physically sick. I was ambushed by my manager and the matron of the surgical division. I felt like vomiting after. I was told randomly out of nowhere to go upstairs and meet with my manager, I asked why and was told they didn't know. I went up there, and they put a chair in front of them as if I was on trial, and they were the judges sentencing me. Then the matron of the surgical division sneered at me and proclaimed, "You know why you're here," and I actually didn't, which made me look and feel like a complete idiot!. It was awful!. I was accused of not doing something correctly and I just felt it was unnecessary. I've been thrown under the metaphorical bus more times than I can remember, been shouted at by Dr's as well because of THEIR lack of communication with me. The blame culture and nurse on nurse bullying is all too real. I didn't quit because I worked so hard to get my nursing degree and they won't take this away from me. Stay safe out there fellow nurses! ❤

Hey Katherine cool video, nice job. I wanted to ask your opinion on this which some people may disagree with or not like. What field in nursing (outpatient only) can you come out with as a new grad making 90-110k/year? Assuming you want to work in California, Oregon, Colorado, or Nevada. Additionally, I know this may be a bit tougher since I want outpatient which means less pay and you can't do 12 hour shifts, thus no opportunity for overtime. The inherent structure of the work week within a hospital allows you to make more, but you may hate or constantly have anxiety or dislike what you're doing and I don't want that anymore since I'm almost midway through my life. Moreover, for salaries, even for the states you listed and the survey shown, that is grossly underpaid considering what you have to do. I would not work as a new nurse for less than 90k a year personally let alone after 5 years. My goal is to work an an RN for a year-two while going to NP school right after graduating. I would do both simultaneously ideally so getting the NP would be a part time student and take longer. I have a proclivitiy towards sports medicine, sleep medicine, potentially opthalmology, or cosmetic dermatology. I have no interest in pursuing bedside nursing after becoming an RN (things like blood draws, bed baths, transferring patients, setting up IV's, catheter insertion). Potentially just hands on skills like injections, or some light medication administration involving simple pills with no IV's/infusions or any of that. Thank you!
@Katherine_Ann
@Katherine_Ann 17 күн бұрын
Hey there! Thanks for your question. The pay depends on a variety of factors as you know, with location being one of the biggest ones. I'm sure you're going to get paid significantly more in San Francisco, California compared to Reno, Nevada. As a new nurse, getting an outpatient job may also be more difficult. I wouldn't want you to necessarily steer yourself to a field that is just for the money, I would just focus on getting good experience and doing something that you enjoy while pursuing your NP. This will prevent burnout and you'll be making more once you get your NP anyway! Let me know what you decide, you're obviously very considerate with your options and I'd love to hear where you end up!

It doesn't make sense that stuffing the wound and holding is before a tourniquet. Once you do that both your hands are being used and you can't do anything. What if there is more bleeding? What if you realize need to put on a tourniquet? You can keep a tourniquet on for hours. This is not good training in my opinion for gunshot wounds. How do you know there's no chest wound/exit hole or multiple holes? I'm no doctor but it really doesn't make sense.

If the pharma industry is so terrible, why has the Republican party spent decades siding with them against consumer groups, price limits, and regulations? Hi! Do you recommend getting an adn first or going straight to a bsn?
@Katherine_Ann
@Katherine_Ann Ай бұрын
Hey - great question. It's all up to your personal preference. I think there's many benefits to getting a ADN first to include being able to work as a nurse, sooner. You could also have your employer pay for your BSN. This is very common and I was able to get mine paid for, which saved me thousands of dollars, while also working full time! If you want a traditional four year college experience, then go the BSN route. You may also prefer a specific four year program, but I personally think the ADN or Diploma is the way to go!

I went from underweight to overweight when I became a nurse. It’s so emotionally draining, I started eating my feelings. Also, you crave empty carbs on the night shift and when you’re off, it’s difficult to wake up and exercise in the middle of the night or sleep deprived during the daylight.
