I relate to LCDR Johnson very much, I am a corpsman, and I would love to become a Navy Nurse. Every time I walk in the hallways, I see those " gold bars" and I think to myself, thats impossible. I have to push myself further and become a nurse corps officer. This video has definitely me inspired me.

I would really love joining the NAVY Nurse Corps, I'm currently studying my bachelor's degree. The only thing keeping me here is my family, because they don't want me to go. But I want to be a part of something bigger than me, really make a difference. :)

Hi Jeanny,Has your family checked out Navy For Moms? It's a website for family members of Sailors and potential Sailors, where they can talk with other family members about what it's like having a child in the Navy. It might help alleviate some concerns. Check it out: www.navyformoms.com

So inspiring. Currently working hard to lose the weight and join the Navy. In the meantime, I'd like to get my doctorate in Nursing. Hopefully, one day, ill be like you or perhaps working with you, LCDR Johnson. I will be watching this video on repeat in the next several months.

This is something I truly want to do, but how do I get here? Do I reach out to a recruiter before I finish my BSN or after? Navy medicine is something I’ve been thinking about for months, but I’m lacking any direction on how to achieve this goal.

Talk to a Nurse Corps/Medical Requiter. You can do direct commission when you graduate with your degree. Go to DCOIC withing a year

I am going to be a senior in high school, and am considering becoming a nurse for the navy. Do you have to go to college first in order to join the Navy and become an RN? Or can you learn on the job? Also, is training to be a Navy Nurse like any other job in the military where you have to go through 2-3 months of bootcamp? Thank you!
@drjesullivan

Kait Lucerne You can go through ROTC at the same time you pursue your BSN. You have to have the BSN to be a military nurse. You attend leadership camp while you're in ROTC, after either sophomore or junior year, but it's not really "boot camp." You also have to pass your nurse licensing exam before you can enter the Nurse Corps. You'll then go to your initial officer entry training.

I'm an ICU RN. I love learning. I've always been interested in becoming a Navy RN. I actually applied to join Nurse corps but couldn't get cleared because I was slightly anemic and I had some dental issues. I've gotten those problems mostly solved and I've been thinking about reattempting to join. I love to learn but now I'm worried I won't get the same type of experience I am currently getting. At my hospital, we get multiple traumas, acutely ill very critical patients. I'm wondering how critical would be my patients as a navy RN. As a reserve officer, I would probably see mostly veterans with chronic conditions. I would not like to work in a long-term nursing facility. Any comments on the type of experience available to navy nurses (reserve/active duty)?
@americasnavy
@americasnavy 8 жыл бұрын
+papaya yapapa Your first duty station will almost always be a Naval Hospital. It depends where that hospital is located. Different specialties are more likely to have more "critical" patients. Please note that our Nurse billets are filled extremely fast through our commissioning programs, but we have a high demand for Perioperative Nurses right now.

@USNNick I think when you join the navy or any other military branch with a 4 year university degree, you will automatically be commissioned as an officer. So when you join the military to be a nurse, since you have a college degree, you will be an officer.

I want to join the navy the only thing holding me back is the physical fitness requirements. Are there people to help you along the way, or do you have to take the test right on the spot.

@americasnavy
@americasnavy 9 жыл бұрын
Antonio Tolbert You need to be competitive to join the Navy as a Nurse. One of our Nursing commissioning programs will be the best way to do that. You have to be going to school to obtain your BSN. When you are 17 (with your parent's permission) you can start talking with a Navy Officer Recruiter.

@americasnavy

Justin Singletary The opportunities for civilians (anyone not already in our student pipelines) are very minimal as our opportunities are filled up with those completing our scholarship programs (NCP & NROTC.) We definitely recommend checking out NCP or STA-21.

Not as a Nurse. The only way to enlist in the Navy if you are not a U.S. citizen is to be living in the United States with a permanent residence visa or green card.

Get a green card, go to a Navy recruiter and move on from there. But just know Hospital Corpsman work, and train with Marines, and serve in both Marine Corps, and Navy, so as a Hospital Corpsman you will go into combat at some point. So really prepare yourself. www.navy.com/careers/healthcare/medical-support.html#ft-key-responsibilities
