I don’t think most nurses’ problem is giving report. It’s finding the information in the system and filling in those blanks so that the story or clear. Most times those blanks are hard to fill in and it confuses you, especially when you’re new and don’t know what you’re looking for/what to look for. But some nurses do give a very chaotic report even if they have all of the information This was a very good video
@SincerelyShannonSubcribe3 жыл бұрын
Yes, great point! With time I learned how to overcome that and hearing things over & over again helps you get a clear story of what’s going on.
@zeezeebo3 жыл бұрын
Finding the information shouldn’t be a problem at all, this days everything is in the system. As long as you know how to navigate the system you are perfectly fine. I understand it’s different with new nurses, but after a yr on the job one should be just fine.

Our nurses SBAR is patient specific, once you pick up the patient from the system and print it out, it comes out with the pt adm date, demographics, C/C, DX, history, plan of care, VS, etc. so you don’t have to write much at all.

I just find it hella hard to find the right thing to say in the moment without ME turning into the bad guy. And it’s always all eyes on me bc I live and work in whyt world and they just be LOOKING for reasons to pile on me when I work so f’in hard to do a great job and be super kind to EVERYBODY. I love your videos! I wish there were more. I want to do travel nursing after a few years too. I graduate in March. My Clinicals right now are so nerve racking and I just want to get over my anxiety. It can be annoying and an inconvenience. Could you do a video over teaching plans with your patients? I would love to see how you demonstrate that. I already work in the hospital as a PCA and yeah ppl always have to try you and you have to check them and it never happen again, but it’s like why did it have to come to that?! Ppl can be so rude. You definitely have to stand your ground and understand not lose yourself and get out of character but let it be known. Also at the same time not let it mess up your day, just let it roll off your back. It’s challenging. Thank you for that tip, knowing the why, and understanding this is not about you but the patient. The patient’s life is in our hands, so put ego and anxiety to the side and understand why the task at hand is important. That’s beneficial right now for school even.

When I 1st became a nurse, I had 2 different Dr.s low key berate me during their rounds. I went 2 both of their offices & addressed them on it, PROFESSIONALLY. After that, they had 2 respect me. I asked them what they wanted n report. They told me, & it was up from there. I highly suggest people check Dr.s when this happens. It was the best thing I did. We had gr8 relationships after that.

Another important information is don't give report telling the oncoming nurse the patient has a IV and YO AZZ don't know if its patent because you haven't check it out your WHOLE 12 hour shift. A good nurse will do a focus assessment when you enter the room. Check your patient for yourself, assess their mental status, ambulatory, I&Os. Sometime the of-going nurse is a HORRIBLE NURSE$.
@SincerelyShannonSubcribe3 жыл бұрын
Focused assessments are really important. I've learned to just go with the flow and hope for the best. I get there early to lay eyes on my patient before report. I'm not the good at bedside report as I should be lol I figure whatever is left behind or messed up, I'll do when I get a chance. But yes I understand completely about laying eyes on your patient before the nurse leaves.
