I am currently taking the CPC self-guided prep course through AAPC. No medical background, just started from ground 0. Was doing pretty well navigating the chapters with just the ICD-10-CM, but am struggling with integrating the CPT into my knowledge bank. Nearly decided to give up, but I came to KZbin as a last ditch effort and found you! Hopefully this will give me an extra boost to break through my learning deficit. It is helpful that there are so many notes in the ICD-10-CM to guide making the proper code selections. But, I feel like in the CPT there's a lot of guesswork behind when modifiers are necessary. It's a little overwhelming, but I will continue to watch your videos and hopefully it resonates with me soon. 😊
@fitk10Ай бұрын
I agree. To me, both ICD-10 and HCPCS make so much more sense and have a far better index for seaching. CPT seems to be super detailed in some descriptions, and then really broad in others.

Yes coding gets even more confusing due to being several different types of coding and specialties and reading records can get confusing once you actually start. When in training for a job some are thorough some are not, but do know some jobs are focused only in how many charts you get through, and some are not. It can be done definitely but it takes dedication, studying, and comprehending what guidelines you use and also companies guidelines as well

Your videos are really helpful. I passed AAPC's CPB certification in June, via virtual proctor (never doing that again btw - the proctor interrupted me twice because he "heard voices" in the room I was in, and I was home alone and had dropped my 2 year old off at a babysitter, so I have no idea what he was hearing), and I'm currently taking the CPC course. You explain things far better and with such a realistic approach, it's much easier to learn from you than reading this AAPC text and doing their "interactive" lectures. For a field that is supposed to pay such attention to detail, the number of grammatical and spelling errors I've come across in this course content is slightly distracting. I also feel like AAPC goes into the weeds on some random things, and barely touches on other, but then tests you on the things that it chose not to go into detail on. Maybe it's just me lol. But thank you!

Great video! This is very helpful. One question: for the colonoscopy example, why do we not code the versed and fentanyl? I have the CPT 2022, and within the Surgery Guidelines, Title: CPT Surgical Package Definition", it states, "... In defining the specific services "included" in a given CPT surgical code, the following services related to the surgery when furnished by the physician or other qual HC profession who performs the surgery are included in + to the operation per se: 1. E/M services subsequent decision for surgery on the day before and/or day of surgery (inclu H&P) 2. Local infiltration, metacarpal/metatarsal/ digital block or topical anesthesia 3. Immediate post-op care, incl dictating op notes, talking with the family and other docs 4. Writing orders 5. Evaluating pt in the post-anesthesia recovery area 6. Typical post-op follow-up Then, under Surgery Guidelines, Title: Supplied Materials, it states, "Supplies and Materials (e.g. sterile trays/drugs), over and above those usually included with the procedure(s) rendered are reported separately. List drugs, trays, supplies, and materials provided." I know that versed & fentanyl are usually included in the procedure but would the versed and fentanyl be coded if it were an unusually high dose? for example, to provide anesthesia for a drug user it would take more medication to sedate them. In this case, would you code for versed & fentanyl? Overall, my question is, how would a coder know what is considered "over and above" or supplies rendered? I mean, there is no way to know EVERY CPT surgery code, the specifics of those corresponding surgeries, AND all the medications that are typical to the surgery. Thanks for your help!!! 🧐😃

I recently came across some of your fabulous medical coding videos. The ones I have watched are incredibly informative. I subscribed right away as you have a great knack for delivering so much information and providing direction quite clearly. You are genuine with your approach and a breath of fresh air. MY QUESTION is how much time and how realistic is this path for certification in coding for a woman over 55. How many years would it take to get the basics needed, including test and certification to become eligible for employment. Is certification only available once you have years of experience? Do you have a video that really outlines the best approach to take and timeframes associated? Ever consider having any offline conversations if one has more specific questions to be shared through a different line of communication. Life-coaching/mentoring? Thanks again for all you do !!!

PLEASE do more of these videos! They are SUPER helpful 🙏🏻 QUESTION: when you are coding a scenario like the carpel tunnel case, would you have to code the ace wrap? And how would the code sequence have to look? Thank you in advance! ❤️

Supplies are coded in professional fee coding with the exception of DME providers.

I work at a health center for purchased referred care, i deal with referrals and getting patients sent to other facilities for care, and doing the claims and having to look up cpt codes to learn why they went. The cpt codes is what got me interested in coding! Now i am taking a course at a local college to get certified.

Is there a particular order to watch these videos for beginners to study for the ICD-10 CPC exam? Also how long do you recommend studying before taking the exam?

Thank you for your video channel. It is super informative. I am currently and xray tech looking to change fields to something less physically stressful and hopefully I can get a remote job in time. I am very interested in coding since I used a little bit of coding in a previous job.

First of all Thank you so much. You are awesome. Second I'm sure that you have done one and I just haven't found it yet but do you have a video on modifiers? And again thank you so much. I was drowning and overwhelmed and ready to give up then someone from a facebook group I was in told me to watch you and you have really helped so much in just a few videos.
