Starting the pine season with this nursery grown Pinus mugo. Bought it without studying the tree, let's see what I can get out of this! Thank you for your time!

Thank you Raymond! Today as I was watering the tree and checking out the buds swelling, I thought "this might become one of my favourite trees, once it gets into a proper, fitting pot...". Have a great night!

Beautiful tree! I also love multi trunked trees. I noticed the trunk removed at the beginning, and I would've done the same. Thanks for sharing.

Really nice work, congratulations! Because of your Atlas Cedar from the previous video, I want to try to make clump style from Atlas cedar seeds. Do you think it is possible, if I sow together or separate the seeds? Thanks ones again for the great videos!
@ArkefthosBonsai
@ArkefthosBonsai 5 ай бұрын
Thank you Svetlin! Of course it is possible to make a clump style Cedrus tree from seedlings and sounds like a cool idea! I would sow separate seeds and plant them together once they are 2 or 3 years old. I would start with at least 7 seedlings, trying to keep all of them alive. Good luck!

What do you use as a chopstick? Is this some kind of special bonsai tool or something else?
@ArkefthosBonsai
@ArkefthosBonsai 9 ай бұрын
That is a 10mm knitting needle. It's round and plastic,so softer than metal and it does not hurt the roots as an aluminum stick. It's better in big repottings or delicate root systems,where percision is not important. Cheers!

Hi, do you repot your mugo pine in July or this is a fresh video?
@ArkefthosBonsai
@ArkefthosBonsai 9 ай бұрын
No, not July! I'm located in Greece, if I repot in July, it would most probably be a death sentence. This is about 2 weeks ago. Mid September to late October here,is a really good season repotting pines, junipers and some broadleaf like oak. Cheers Ashton !

@@ArkefthosBonsai oh, i see. When do they got dormant in your area? I just repot a new mugo pine (I try to rescue the tree potted in overwatered torf) and wonder if it could still recover (in Nothern DE is still warm but who knows how longer such weather will stay)

@atomartin if you have 2 months before first frost and you did not remove - damage the root system extensively, you'll be fine. I protect trees that I repot in autumn from very low temperatures, in a greenhouse. Generally, temperatures below -4C (25F) can damage the bonsai trees and they need protection. Given that you worked the roots, you should protect this tree below 0C. Here dormancy starts at mid November (maple leaves change color).

Is tha perlite soil you used?
@ArkefthosBonsai
@ArkefthosBonsai 2 ай бұрын
That is zeolite perlite and pumice, usually a combination of 2 if them or even the 3 of them, depending on the species and the stage of development. Cheers!

@pinoydad_0811 it's a great species of pine for bonsai. Since it is alpine species, I prefer to repot them kate winter (more time before the first heatwave) or mid September to late October (that's best). They tend to not make thick roots, but rather keep fine roots (which is great). Just be gentle during repotting and you will be just fine. It's great that they are cheap little trees. Oh, and they back bud like crazy, like a maple or something, as long as they are happy and under lots of sun. Good luck!
