Which are the best and worst nursing specialties of 2023?

I quit the ER Feb 2021. Didn’t mind COVID, but we lost a lot of nurses and I felt very unsafe. Tried out being a High school nurse, and then COVID took off again and I decided I had enough of bedside nursing. Last Friday was my last day. I’ve had a Nurse Coaching side hustle and I’ve decided to pursue my business full time.

I’m about to begin my first nursing job in the OR and I have no regrets not starting in medsurg. To all students just coming out of nursing school, if you want something keep gunning for it. Your happiness is most important

How is it? Im guessing OR nursing is better since u dont deal with pt all the time. You help with surgery right?

@@samuelolguin3154 it’s definitely been a lot of learning and days of wondering what in the world I’m doing 😂 and yes I’m in surgery all day. Also it is a perk for not dealing with pts except for the 10-15 minutes I see them awake. Overall though, I know I make the right decision!

I'm a LPN with over 30 yrs experience. I use to love nursing. I still love patient care, but the increased repetitive paperwork, being over worked, under paid, under appreciated, disrespected, anything your get you have to fight for, and the abuse of authority is out of control. I think it's time nurses come together and stand your ground by taking back control of your career and life. They use to treat us with respect and regard, because they knew we don't need a middle man, but they need us. We have handed over our strength and power. It's time we take it back. They think we are unwise and they're using toward their benefits. The hospitals, agencies, and any other middle man needs to be working for us or working to keep us for without they have nothing. We can keep on working if we take that extra step and be your our business. Invest in ourselves. Believe in ourselves.

They missing clinical research. By far the best role, as a nurse, that I've ever been in. I've since moved away from the hospital, now working from home and making as significant more amount of money with a good career ladder, and I don't regret a dang thing.

Currently in med/surg/Tele. Been there almost 3 years. I spent 9 weeks in L&D and was traumatized there. I would say I'm satisfied with my job, however there are definitely days that suck. Mostly the suckiness isnt the job its just staffing, floating, and the unappreciative entitled patients. But I have wonderful management, amazing coworkers, decent pay (although there's room to grow!), and one of my biggest benefits is my pto time. My manager let's us use our pto and that's really been everything for me. I eventually want to go into mother/baby or lactation but I have a hard time thinking about leaving the benefits I have with my current management and the incentive pay I'm currently getting in med surg Tele.

@@julieromley the unit culture in L&D was trash. There was some wonderful supportive nurses but the other ehhem.. "strong personalities" made me feel like I was the most worthless nurse and I did everything wrong. Now mind you... if I was doing something actually wrong I would understand, however it was stupid shit like "you set the blankets up in the warmer wrong" and " how dare you start a 20g IV instead of a 18g". The unit was not set up to be supportive of each other, we audited each other, people purposely tried to intimidate you with your lack of experience, management allows people to orient who won't even talk to their orientee. I was that orientee. I went into orientation understanding it would be a hard job, but I expected to get the training I needed, and I didn't expect to cry over half of my shifts. I came from a unit where every nurse is supportive of each other, I can count on my management to stand up for me, and we treat our new nurses with grace and kindness. When it came down to it I was willing to sacrifice some work life balance stuff like being on call, not getting every week of vacation I wanted, a harder more demanding job for a job I loved, and while I loved parts of it, it wasn't enough.

I’ve been an ER nurse since the start of the pandemic and if it wasn’t for the amount of money I make as a traveler with the ability to take off when I want, I would have quit nursing all together. But very few alternatives pay what travel pays with the same flexibility to work and take time off. Are you still coaching people how to start their own travel companies? I started one but I’m struggling to get my foot in the door with hospitals.

I've been a CNA for 3 yrs and now a MA for 5yrs... I've always wanted to be an RN but since I've been in the medical field SO MUCH HAS CHANGED and not for the better. I work in a UC (urgent care) and there's a ED (emergency department) downstairs, I've talked to RNs (being a CNA and MA) and they always tell me they HATE their job. They used to love it and now it's just terrible. I work in the UC and it's gotten SOOOOO BUSY I have never ever seen this many sick people, sometimes they're not even "sick sick" they're just hypochondriacs that come in like regulars. A lot of them are SO FUCKING MEAN and super impatient. They want EVERYTHING done on their time. I've been threatened, I've been sexually assulted,, spat on, yelled at, had things thrown at me, I've even had NURSES come in as patients and be SUPER FUCKING RUDE to me. When I take patients downstairs to the ED, the nurses are SO MEAN and all of them HATE that we bring patients THAT NEED ADVANCED CARE down to their department. They're sooooooo RUDE to patients. It's so hostile. Idk why the heck everyone is so fucking mean. Like, if you don't like your job.... LEAVE!!!!!! NURSING IS NOT EASY & YOU HAVE TO PUT UP WITH SHIT CAUSE THEY DONT JUST FIRE PEOPLE ANYMORE CAUSE THEYRE SO DESPERATE TO KEEP STAFF. I never ever would want to become a nurse. I don't even want to work in the medical field anymore....everything you do IS DRAINING doesn't matter what department.

As a student nurse graduating in August form day one I wanted to be in the ER or on a trauma team and a travel nurse. Over the last 2 years of school I’m now confused as to what I want to do. Seeing the burnout and stress when doing clinical rotations and working as a nurse apprentice on a med surg floor I don’t know what to do or what I want.
