A big complaint some have is corruption, but that is largely a consequence of not being involved in the union and not pushing back against the hospitals telling the union how to run. Don't simply accept any non-nurse reps that tell you that you can't communicate with your coworkers or other nurses' unions.

Have you seen the news that Kentucky is the first state to decriminalize nurse errors. I was shocked. KY is so backwards with so many things......I cannot believe it is the first to do this.

As an lpn i told.my friends they were crazy that i had no desire to be an adrenaline junkie dealing with craziness. Then during my rotation from lpn to rn the similarities between primary care turned me on to the ed. Plus you get the chance to hone your skills. Im bless to jave an amazing team.

Apparently nurses think they are the only people who work long hours and stressful jobs and deal with bad employers. The nurse gave the wrong medication, mistake or not, it lead to the death of a patient. If someone who operates heavy machinery is tired and stressed and happens to kill someone they are gonna be charged. Coos who have accidentally shot innocent people have been charged. But apparently you cant charge nurses cause its not their fault they skip steps and administer wrong medications. Blames the hospitals and administrators all you want in the end you gave the patient the wrong medication without double checking you can deal with the consequences of your actions. Grow up take accountability and stop using lame excuses about overworked and stress. You being stressed isn’t a good excuse for killing someone mistake or not.

After 30+ years of OB nursing (and all of the ob units closing around me 😢) I have been talked into giving ER nursing a whirl. Scares me to death tbh but my coworkers are convinced I will be fine. Any tips and tricks for this old nurse? 😂 I think they just want me for my baby delivering skills. 😅

Do you have recommendations for someone that would want to get their wound care certification eventually and where to start after graduation? Then potentially becoming a wound care NP? I'm having a hard time deciding because I heard critical care/ICU would help me a lot and you can pretty much go anywhere and they'll take you, but then ER also catches my interest because I do like solving problems and trying to figure out what's wrong with someone, and the fact that they're not staying that long. They'll either be discharged or admitted onto a unit, but ICU I heard you also just have to know a lot and you can learn a lot? I also never thought I'd ever like L&D or the nursery and NICU, and ended up doing really well in my rotation and enjoying it, so would that be a good place to start? There are so many choices and I feel like I thought I knew what I wanted at first and then as I went through clinical, I started adding more things to my list of units I enjoy. I got a lot of wound care experience though already and worked closely with a wound care team at a couple clinical sites, and my instructors allowed me to go with wound care every week, so wound care is my strongest spot but they don't allow you in wound care right away. It's required to have at least 1 to 2 years of floor experience before joining wound care. HELP! I graduate next year so I'm kind of freaking out a bit.

I lived in Bainbridge and was 12 when this happened. There wasn't a big deal made about it back then as I remember finding out about a serial killer in Bainbridge later on in life through the internet. The stories that were circulating back then was just a girl got abducted and almost killed...Crazy times..

I was greatly inspired by the Nomad Nurse videos and decided to start my own LLC and continue working as a travel nurse and cut out the agency as a middle man. HOWEVER. I had difficulty getting insurance for my LLC. I emailed the Nomad Nurse and got no assistance or response. I searched online and could not find any other Independent Contractor travel nurses. I searched on the reliable Bluepipes website for nurses and found information that contradicts the idea that travel nurses can work as independent contractors: -------------------------------------------------------------- According to the IRS: The general rule is that an individual is an independent contractor if the payer has the right to control or direct only the result of the work and not what will be done and how it will be done. The main focus here should be on the part of this statement that says, “payer has the right to control only the result of the work…” Note the emphasis added on “only.” The IRS also states the following: You are not an independent contractor if you perform services that can be controlled by an employer (what will be done and how it will be done). This applies even if you are given freedom of action. What matters is that the employer has the legal right to control the details of how the services are performed. In the case of nurses and the vast majority of allied health workers much more than just the outcomes of work are controlled by the contracted facility. For example, in the case of travel nurses, the hospital will determine the hours worked as well as break times. The nurse will be using supplies and equipment belonging to the hospital. In addition, there are managers and doctors at the hospital who are supervising the nurse’s work. Moreover, nurses must seek the permission of a physician for decisions outside the nurse’s scope of practice which is a frequent occurrence. Unfortunately, these factors, taken a a whole, will disqualify someone as an independent contractor." --------------------------------------------------------------------- So be warned before you cut all your ties with agencies due to watching this man's KZbin videos. I also notice he has not posted any new videos in quite some time.

I have been attempting to establish my LLC and work as a travel nurse as an independent contractor. I ran into some snags: 1) I did send emails to this Nomad Nurse three weeks ago and have yet to hear back from him. I am not paying for his Nurse Entrepreneur Course if he cannot return emails. 2) I have tried to find other online resources for RNs who are starting an LLC to work as travel nurses. Haven't found any. 3) On the Bluepipes website for nurses, I found material that states RNs do not qualify as independent contractors when working in a hospital setting and therefore cannot work as travel nurses independently. See the material below: "Do travel nurses qualify as independent contractors? According to the IRS: The general rule is that an individual is an independent contractor if the payer has the right to control or direct only the result of the work and not what will be done and how it will be done. The main focus here should be on the part of this statement that says, “payer has the right to control only the result of the work…” Note the emphasis added on “only.” Free: Universal Job Application and Credential Management for travelers. The IRS also states the following: You are not an independent contractor if you perform services that can be controlled by an employer (what will be done and how it will be done). This applies even if you are given freedom of action. What matters is that the employer has the legal right to control the details of how the services are performed. Unfortunately, these factors, taken a a whole, will disqualify someone as an independent contractor." So this Nomad Nurse might be giving us misleading information and I might have wasted the past few weeks (and $1100 buying commercial insurance) because of his false info. Be warned and do research. Any responses from fellow nurses are appreciated.

Please review: "Do travel nurses qualify as independent contractors? According to the IRS: The general rule is that an individual is an independent contractor if the payer has the right to control or direct only the result of the work and not what will be done and how it will be done. I discovered that I had to go to work, and manage the people that I work with and get them in line. It's exhausting and it's a lot of work. and it's not a long-term fix and in the end it's even not worth it. Better just to realize that nursing is toxic. And don't do it.

It was a very informative video about the bill rates from a travel nurse perspective. I never thought in a million years, you could work independently as a LLC. Most travel nurse companies that I worked in the past were pretty good with the compensation packages. I talked about other travel nurses about trying to get a greater percentage getting a greater percentage of my hourly wage.

I am a multi-state RN NY and Compact states. Left arm sleeve, Left leg sleeve, full back tat, 5/19 gauges(almost 3/4”). I’m about to go into my PeriOp 101 program to become an OR nurse. But my advice to RNs and future RNs is to be considerate/aware about what patients may think. Not everyone is ok with tats or gauges. It’s just reality. When I go to work I wear silicone for my gauges for them not to stand out, I also wear long sleeves as much as I can. And as a nurse u should expect that it’s a risk and u should be willing to take the negativity that might come your way. Some places might prefer others before u when hiring.

This was a damn good video. You laid it all out there no holds barred. As a brand new 50 year old male "older" nurse I feel like I can do well but am sure that I'll run into peers who think an older inexperienced nurse is going to be a problem for them. You can bet I'll be growing that thick skin from the get go because solid patient care and communication is my goal. Hopefully, some of these peers will come around after i can prove myself. Thank You Nomad Nurse!
