Published on 10 Mar 2014 Fifteenth century Chinese admiral Zheng He (Cheng Ho) led the largest fleet the world has ever seen on seven epic voyages of discovery and trade from China as far as the east coast of Africa. This three-part series examines the leadership skills he needed and the many lessons still relevant for today's business leaders. Loke San : Yep, he was a great legend but that Columbus guy gets the fame and some history just focus on highlighting the glory of a bunch of thieves conquering somebody else land..

@@anitarosieross5540 : I think we should not compare Zheng He's exploits with Columbus. In Zheng He's case what he did was to visit countries already known to him; what Columbus did was he happened to come upon a completely unknown land though he thought he had reached a known land called India. The fact that the "unknown land" happened to be as huge as all the known world has made him famous. Zheng He had never discover anything new to deserve any fame. Besides, Zheng He's huge fleet might existed in novels only, it never existed in reality.

Loke San: I believe the largest fleet you were talking about had never existed in real life, but only existed in fictional novels. The largest fleet Zheng He was alleged to have commanded comprised 317 ships, each one was as large as a football field, built within 3 years of time. This gives a building speed of 3 days per ship. How could any country ancient or modern achieve such a fast building speed, Mr. San?

This documentary doesn't see the forest for the trees. The ultimate, number ONE lesson from the Treasure Voyages is this: Always be proactive...Innovate...Change...Adapt...Move forward...Progress...have Vision. Never settle, become passive, reactionary, complacent, fat, lazy, corrupt and rusty. This is why Portuguese, the language of a tiny, periphery country of Europe is more widespread than Chinese, the language of a gigantic nation.

On what basis? Certainly not the number of speakers. Remember, there are more ethnic Chinese outside of China than in it....

That is completely off. Always the ego of countries like this think they are better...have some manner. I never once saw a Portuguese speaker in my life in multiple countries. But probably about 50-100 mandarin speakers each year. If anything, English and Chinese dialects are the most spoken languages global. Next would be french, Korean, Spanish, Vietnamese (from personal experience)

NUS Business School: Zheng He's largest fleet might be a hoax because of the speed of construction. His fleet was reported to comprise 317 huge ships, each had the same size of a modern football field. And the ancient Chinese were reported to have constructed them in about 3 years. This gives a speed of construction of "3 days per ship". Gentleman, how could any country be able to achieve such a speed? Even today's China cannot.

You are right, and likewise, how could extreme poverty be eradicated in 800 million people in just 40 years? Clearly another hoax! Give me a break.

It's not about religion or race.. It's about being a good human being and even if you have been given a great power and he's not like those bunch of thieves who came and rob somebody else land.. Enough about those religion and race.. I'm sick of hearing it..
