Great video. I was slightly confused though: when you took that first Elder, you were able to build a ship or building right away without using a worker. I was wondering why you decided to skip its ability and use a worker to build a ship instead? From pg 13 in the rules: "After taking the Elder, you may immediately carry out the action shown on the Elder card, without placing (another) Worker (see “Using an Elder”)." Thanks again for the fun video. I look forward to trying the solo version.

You are absolutely correct... I completely forgot to do this as I was thinking about talking through the interaction with the fish 😅 thanks for clarifying and for the feedback. I'll pin this comment so others can see it!

Great video! I just bought Nusfjord and am about to play solo for the first time tonight! As you were explaining it i definitely was getting major Feast vibes for the basic solo mode, which is great, but that advanced solo mode sounds really good too.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on this series! Maggie has started to talk about the solo experience in all of our reviews now so that it is all in one place (and more and more people are playing solo!)

@@ThinkerThemer Love that. :) Though I do highly value her playing through a sample round as a solo player. It really helped me to understand the basics of the game.

I just had to jump in a year later and say YES to the Solo! I'm slowly picking up the games you recommend. Some are harder to find - but I'm really excited (A Feast for Odin and this one were top on my list and happy I was able to score them recently!). I love this series - please continue to do it!

Finally looking at playing this after ordering it early January. This video is really great as a walkthrough of a couple of turns (and I noticed the one mistake with the Elder as I'd already read that elsewhere). Now I think I'm ready to try and build my own fishing empire! Great video as always Maggie, and I look forward to more of your solo focussed content in the future.

Watching your video inspired me to play the campaign mode with the Plaice Deck: 37+38+31=106 is a pretty good start for me :-)

This was helpful. Nusfjord appears to be a quality solo experience in a small footprint.

Absolutely John! It is nice to get that euro feeling at 1 or 2 players without the huge set up... or the commitment to 2 hours 😅 Thanks as always for taking the time to comment.

I love solo. So I am excited for this series of videos. We all love Amy but sometimes games are better at 1. Thanks for doing this series.

Hahaha thank you James that is really lovely feedback. Each time we review a game someone usually asks how does it play solo, so we thought we'd try this series out. Appreciate your support as always. ☺

Okay okay, I'll buy it, jeeeez! Haha.. But seriously, thanks so much for the review, I've been interested in this one for awhile and your last 2 videos were very clear and descriptive, which helps a lot. The short 3-game mode sold me on it definitively! I love me some game-progression mechanics..

Excellent intro to the solo version of this game, which should have a higher profile than it seems to have on BBG. We love that it plays quickly yet there is a need to develop a coherent strategy to get the engine going efficiently. We haven't tried it solo, but the demo Maggie has shown here looks to be well worth a shot. Keep up the good work!!

Always craning my neck to see the games on your shelves in the background, and in this video I notice Barrage! Would love to hear your all thoughts on the game! Do you talk about it in a previous video?

Lol! Yes you should be able to find our Barrage review on our channel. It was during lockdown in Melbourne that we played it so we still haven't tried it at a higher player count! 😑

This series is a great idea! I hope Maggie makes more of these! I've done alot of solo gaming the past year and had a 2021 challenge to play all my games with solo modes but then I got to Marvel Champions and I logged 28 plays of it before I got to the next game haha My birthday is in 2 days and I didn't quite make it! I haven't gotten to Honey Buzz, Barrage or Coloma yet! My fave solos were Marvel Champions (obviously haha), Maracaibo and Paladins of the West Kingdom

I love playing Nusfjord solo! great game :) I used to really like Agricola, but this is so much quicker and tighter, i get to it so much more :) great video!! do you play Scythe solo? I can’t wrap my head around it. same with Troyes solo... also Obsession would be great for a solo review/mini play through 💗🤓
@ThinkerThemer3 жыл бұрын
Sorry I somehow missed this comment Kim! Maggie does enjoy Scythe solo but for some reason Troyes is always hard for me to get to the table because she doesn't seem to like it. She is definitely thinking about a solo video for Obsession but has started adding a solo section to our main reviews so we're unsure about the format of that for now... hmmmm....! Thanks for putting it back on our radar.

Maggie will you ever revisit your solo series? I solo quite a bit and most often I play two player against myself rather than using the solo rules and playing against the bot, which often creates a whole different gaming experience. Love to hear how you prefer to play solo, your favorite solo games and a whole episode devoted to your thoughts on Robinson Crusoe!
@kritisharma11234 жыл бұрын
Loved it! Solo is also great , I want to play alone too but somehow I don’t get the push. Do you like feast of Odin more or Nusjford? Or is there anymore game in this category that you like the most. ?
@ThinkerThemer4 жыл бұрын
We of course love feast (solo and multiplayer) but this is less heavy (because there is less going on) and much easier to set up and play quickly, so it depends on how much time I have 😁

I agree with your final thoughts, this is good enough solo because it's quite a good game, but the typical tension of worker placement is completely missing in solo. Blocking yourself from one round to the next is a neat little idea, but a basic AI deck (simply drawing a card to see which action is blocked next) would have been better imo. I've yet to try the advanced mode though and the campaign sounds neat:)

Hi! Do you like this game more solo than Feast for Odin?
@ThinkerThemer Жыл бұрын
Feast is still number 1 for me because it’s so epic and there’s always so much to do and explore! But Nusfjord is great as a faster way to get a satisfying game in of a similar playing vibe 😊
