Technically Small Angels start at age 4 but there are two 3 (almost) 4 year olds performing this year. One is my beautiful daughter! And then the age goes all the way into adulthood especially with party parents. 😊

Is it normal in dance that people talk so much when rehearsal is in progress? That would be considered unprofessional and very disrespectful if it were a music or theater rehearsal. In those professions, when you are not directly involved, you quietly watch/listen and learn. You support your colleagues by giving them an environment in which they can concentrate and do their best.

My daughter danced with a pre-professional youth ballet company, and so much talking during rehearsals was not permitted for the reasons you stated. I suspect that, perhaps, this was an exception for the livestream, in order to drum up interest in the performances.

For the most part, while the music is playing, you can see almost all of them in their roles, which is basically to chat in the Nutcracker. Besides that, only those who go up to Eva are really holding long conversations, with the exception being the start of the stream where no music is on and people are practicing individually or in partners.

I’m going to try and ask this question delicately. Just a curiosity mainly. The boys wear those brief things to keep their ‘baubles’ out of the way, but they’re not used in other dance styles such as Irish dancing where there is a lot more crossing of the legs. Is it just purely for aesthetics or are they optional?

I think one of the biggest reasons male dancers wear belts is to protect them while partnering. There’s a lot of opportunity for things to get hit when partnering in ballet, modern, and contemporary. They wear the tights over the belts so you can see their lines. Ballet is very technical and all about lines and pictures so male dancers wear tights as well. I hope this helps!😊
