Spyderco Endura Wave: Another Must Have

I've had this knife for almost four years, carried it everday, and it is AWESOME! No rust, no failures, and a ton of hard use. Best wave knife for the money. Not as strong as the cold steel waveables, but none of the cold steel knives that have the wave feature are as reliable. I can get this thing to open 10 of 10 times because of the generous opening for the pocket catch. The cold steel ak 47(which I own and love), for example, has a very small opening for the pocket catch, and it either fails to deploy or gets caught up in the pocket fabric. This is my favorite spyderco ever.

This has been my favorite EDC knife for years. I was always disappointed that nutnfancy wouldn't consider it due to a want of keeping his knife in his system consistent (not becoming dependent on the wave). I feel the urge to say "I told you so!" after listening to this video. Also - I have to say I think this knife is beautiful, and have gotten lots of compliments on it. Maybe beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but it seems every time I bust this out someone usually says "Woa - what is that?" Perhaps because it IS so unique looking. For some reason the balance on this knife seems better than the regular FFG - like there is more weight towards the front of the actual blade. It just feels more substantial without really being any heavier. You have to hold both to know what I'm saying. Also for anyone who thinks you can achieve the same result as this waved version with a zip tie on your regular FFG - you are dead wrong - I'll leave it at that. This knife is DEFINITELY a "knife guy's" knife. I own a pretty respectable collection of nice production knives, and this is the one that ends up in my pocket the most. If I could own ONE spyderco, this would be it.

Zip-tie through the opening hole, secured to the spine of your spyderco = wave feature. Works like a charm, you can remove it, and you don't have to settle for a fugly sabre-ground version.

I've had my Endura Wave for two yeas and it's my favorite edc blade. The quick deployment is very reliable, good steel, low profile and larger blade then most edc knives. Technically I originally see this knife as a defense/tactical style. I like how he states that it wont cut as good as an original Endura.

Thanks Nutn, Just this last year I've bought the Benchmade 585 Mini Barrage as my very favorite EDC. EVER.. I bought the Spyderco Resilience for my EDC Lunch Box Knife, great for food prep. I just ordered my Endura Wave, this will fill my tactical folder role. I'll have an updated EDC video up soon. I'm ready for my gear check! Thanks for all your help over this last year. Don't forget the Pacific Salt! It's basically an H1 Endura... I bought mine on a whim and it has now been my favorite EDC for the past three years.

I've been EDCing this and the delica 4 wave for years now and love them so much. I always end up coming back to this knife for my main EDC blade despite giving others a fair chance to prove themselves. the only issue I've had was when I broke off the clip. The clips can become brittle overtime and break off at the points on either side of the lanyard hole. no big issue and a cheap fix. just order some extras from spyderco if you ever run into that and you will have a couple backups.

The fastest deploying knife I own. It feels good in the hand, and its slim profile makes it very easy to carry in the pocket. BTW, the handle scales are gray, not British racing green (like the ZDP-189 knives). Spyderco's color code for this knife is GYW (gray-wave), but the code for the ZDP-189 knives is GRE (green).

Paramilitary 2's are incredible knives, but the price has increase. A good price now is $115-125, (still great value.) but because they cant keep up w/ demand, they are selling for $150-180 online. I'd suggest preordering a PM2 at a reputable store that has a good price, b/c the knife is near flawless. (The Stretch & Manix series are also top notch workers.) That said, Enduras and Salts are just wonderful working knives, and some of the best design/steel/quality for the money around. If you can pry yourself away from Spydies and live with less QC, the Buck Vantages offer insane value. (You can usually fix any issues, if not have Buck do it for you.) $55 for a beautiful US made flipper with S30v and G10 is a crazy value. And if you need a folder that can survive nuclear war, the Cold Steel Triad locks are it. Voyagers are bargains, and the Lawman shows design chops up there w/ the Vantage and Spydies, (seriously.) More important than any of that tho, is learning safe and proper knife usage. Buy a book by Mears or Kochanski, and watch experts. Knives are only tools, after all! US Kershaws in 14c28n are Bargains,

You got my into this blade when you sold me on the Pacific Salt - this was the next natural progression for me after liking my Salt so much. My current EDC blade is the wave Endura Spyderco did for Lone Wolf with the Glock tool on it (they had to re-engineer the lockbar for it compared to the normal waved Endura), their cool wolf's head logo etched on the blade, and I had it engraved by them with my name on the lockbar and "Fear No Evil" on the blade spine. I prefer the different blade shape on these for the POU the Emerson wave feature implies (although there are certainly better tactical blades out there and I'm trying to decide between an Al Mar Eagle HD and the Extrema Ratio Dark Talon for that).

matt4270 Yeah, I still have my Salt... it was hard for me to make the switch to VG-10 because it's nice knowing your H-1 will absolutely will NOT rust and is easy to sharpen (I seem to be a bit sharpening-challenged). But the VG-10 holds the edge longer. The Salt has no steel liners at all, which I prefer, and although it has a saber grind, I felt no need to replace it with an Endura until I saw the Endura with the Emerson wave feature (which is really a totally un-Endura blade shape). I would love to see a larger version of this knife, because I really think a tactical blade should have the Emerson opener, but this one lacks the reach I'd like to see it have. I think that would have been a better knife for Spyderco to make than the Military, Police, or Tatanka models. Spyderco, please do that! Oh yeah, and there is a waveable Delica they make, but... ahem... it shouldn't cost just as much as the waveable Endura.

Nutn, you are being unusually forgiving in this review.@10:48, it sticks out of pocket a whole inch so not a deep carry clip; the clip's screws stripped out b/c they're only anchored in plastic and dont make contact w/ metal liner, And the VG10 rusts? Am I missing why I'd want that??......@13:06, slight error on competitive options- the Kershaw Piston is the 1860 --- the "1870" is the knockout, which is lighter, a framelock, & has a better deep carry clip. Both are made in the USA

for retention reasons I want my defensive blade to have the wave feature so that I can draw the knife blade down without using three movements. (Or one complex and one super complex movement) something that's not possible with a traditional opening knife. I'm a huge fan of the wave feature.

My Endura wave rides in my off hand pocket with the Nutn JB weld mod. Perfect option for weapon retention while on duty. I did the JB weld mod because I found the texture of the grip made it very difficult to get the knife out quickly because of the fabric of my uniform pants.

I am kind of confused by the color of the scales on the Endura 4 Emerson Wave. I know that the regular Endura 4 is offered in various colors, but as far as I know based on the Spyderco website, the Emerson Wave model is only available in one color. That being said, first I thought it is black based on the Spyderco website images, but then I saw it personally in my local store and it had these kind of police/navy blue scales. Now I see this video and this one has got some dusty grey, or green scales. Although Nutn says it is a grey/navy blue, so maybe it is the same. Someone else mentioned, here in the comment section, that it is the British Racing green, just like on the Endura 4 ZDP-189 version. But I tell you I have a Manbug ZDP-189 model with the same British Racing green as on the Endura ZDP-189 and it looks rather more like an intense forest/dark green, which is different. Has anybody figured out how many color variations are there available for the Endura and Delica Emerson Wave models? I would be glad to know before I am going for the purchase. I have the same knife and the lock-up just plain sucks. The clip is no longer tight be cause of some thick pockets. But it fast and that tip is sharp.

While disassembling I didn't get one of the two nubs of the back spacer properly seated, went to take it apart again to fix and stripped a screw, up and down play is very noticeable now = / I don't think I would recommend taking this knife apart, the tension bar is a pain. Be careful!

Im definitely picking up the FFG version in zdp189, BRG color scales . really love the vg10 ffg endura Ive been carrying and its holding its convexed and mirror polished regrind shaving sharp with only a touchup on the strop required after a couple weeks of hard use.. if the zdp is as good as claimed It may be a sharpen once and touch up yearly type deal.

Love the steel. I have had the knife since Nov. I carry it more than all my others because of the weight and it has really proven itself. I have a Delica with VG-10 and it's a great knife too. It was definitely worth the extra money to get the ZDP-189.

skinning turtles! haha! love it. I've had this knife for 5 years or so. the blade shape isn't the best for slicing tasks but it is very strong. The volcano grip is the best in the business. One issue I have is with the lock up. mine has vertical play that has worsened over the years. I may send it back to Spyderco although I'm not entirely up to speed on their warranty.

I have one of these in my normal edc rotation. Mine has a very slight amount of vertical blade play but you've got to really muscle to it notice it on mine. I added some traction tape to the pocket clip and on the backspacer area of the handle as well and added a lanyard.

i love ur endura and delica vids. i got the delica4 in brown and a dragonfly2 in black. i think the endura has too large of a blade for my uses and i am afraid of the "grey area" here in NJ. i was edcing the delica4 for a while and got the dragonfly2 and thats my edc blade now. very lightweight and blade size is good for my uses (mainly letter/box/package opener). Keep up the awesome vids!

I'd love to see you review a Buck Vanguard. They're the best edc fixed-blades that I know of, and mostly because of the way the sheath carries so perfectly. If you've never carried one, I'd suggest trying it out. There's also a nice s30v version from cabela's that's pretty nice. Be sure to get the leather sheath! The nylon might not carry the same.

Nutn, you have to check out spydercos new Manix 2. It's the one you have an 11 out of 10. Light weight. But with an upgraded steel. S110V would love for you to test that steel. It should go the distance as far as edge retention. Just hit a super blue stretch. And I love it alot more than the endura and delica. That forward finger choil Makes it so easy to open and close one handed. And the steel is just amazing. Cant beat steel from a 130 year old Japanese foundry. Keep the knife vids comming. thanks.

Spyderco prices are a bit steep. I have one of the first Enduras. Back before spyderco was a household name. The only people that carried them was rodeo people who needed a quick knife in case they got hung up and needed to cut themself or others free. My old endura is red, the pocket clip is molded plastic and it cost $18.50 brand new in the box. To go from 18.50 to 60,70,80 buck is gouging. I make less money now than I did then.

I agree that's it's on the ugly side of knives, but so functional and light weight I just love it. The wave feature with the Spydy deployment hole, effn awesome. I almost always carry it. The Delica version is great too but I prefer the weight/mass of the Endura, seems like it deploys quicker.

the wave is my favorite knife feature...Love it gotta have it. Started with the delcia wave for Edc (4 years of excellence). Moved on to the Matraich 2 with the wave (the very definition of Wicked). Any pocket knife I buy and carry has to have a wave.

Hey NutN. Great job as always. I thought that the LoneWolfDistributors version of this knife would be prefered because of the (possibly gimmicky?) built in Glock punch. I said screw it and got both. I don't know when I'll need a punch on my knife but it's got a LWD logo on it and it's more options. That's a win most of the time. Thanks for all the hard work.

Excellent knife review on the Endura Wave. After watching this video I do believe I need to try a wave type knife and the Endura just may be the one. Although, I will not be skinning any turtles with it but just an EDC. The Delica is a great little knife for I got my two daughters one each a while back and it is a sharp knife.

Carried an Endura Wave as a EDC knife for a few years and loved it until it got lost. Replaced it with the Spyderco K'pal; much better knife, better grind, better steel and I like the blade shape better even. Its so ugly its cool, where the Endura wave was just ugly. Hey Nutn' do a review on the K'pal as an EDC! Yea I know, you'll say its too thick, but I removed the liners so its just right.

I saw this knife at a gun show one time. Looks mighty practical after they paid the rights for the Emerson opener. If you're the type who wants to save a little more money with rust resistance straight from Seki City, Japan, this knife looks like every penny well spent (Not discounting Emerson Knives themselves though!). :) BTW, I'm a gun guy, but as long as something gets the job done it doesn't matter how "ugly" it is. :P
