Thats amazing!! You're an inspiration to us all Manfred. Be sure you're getting enough protein (I know that sounds cliche) - as we age we actually need MORE protein, especially when running longer distances. You'll also want to look at Collagen Powder to help keep your joints/tendons/ligaments strong and nimble. Keep us posted on how it goes.

appreciate the mention of legumes and beans. people forget about them as an optimal source of clean protein.

I know right?? I'm always amazed that people don't eat more legumes. Lentils are a lost gem! They have iron, fiber, potassium and calcium. They are great in soups, as a base for veggie burgers etc. What's your favorite legume Sheri?

I came from weight lifting and I was wondering if I needed to change up my nutrition but it's literally identical. It's comforting that I don't need to change my eating habbits.

Oh and just for your info, it's actually against the law (in the US) for egg companies to say things such as "eggs are healthy", "eggs can be part of balanced diet". Ref: USDA statements..hypnosishealthinfo.com/usda-eggs-arent-healthy-safe/ It's considered misleading.

I am on board with most everything she said here. However, there is strong evidence of the consequences of eating animal products in terms of adverse cardiovascular disease and cancer incidence and outcomes. Plants have all the protein you need. Our dietitians and nutritionists need to get up to speed on the literature regarding the significant risks of animal-based diets.

Thank you for sharing your opinion, Isaiah. There is literature on both sides- I will agree with you that factory farmed meats are horrible for both people and the environment. I always promote a more plant-based diet to help with longevity, heart health and lowering inflammation. However, as runners, we have added nutritional requirements. Most people are not careful enough on a plant based diet to actually get enough vitamins, minerals, and protein to sustain health and performance. You seem like a very knowledgeable runner and therefore can probably do the plant based diet with ease. If it's working for you- stay at it.
