@@colprincess8579 It depends. If heart valves weren't formed properly, it isn't going to fix that. But there are forms of congenital heart failure that don't affect people until they get older and the thing is, Whole Food Plant-Based would be more protective over those vulnerable hearts.

I think you just saved my life. I'm 81, obese, have congestive heart failure, and I stay physically weak and tired all the time except when I'm sitting or lying down. Thank you for posting all these stories about folks who have reversed their heart disease with a plant based diet. I seem addicted to all the wrong foods, but but but if this is poisoning me and killing me, well then there now, that's the best reason to start eating only healthy foods, that I've found. I don't expect to live much longer unless I drastically change to the diet you've described. Your video is the best incentive I've ever seen to get me on your recommended diet. Thanks a million! I think you just saved my life! I'll check back here in a few months and let you know what happens. joyce

Thank you for this inspirational information and reminders. I started a plant base diet once I was told by the doctor that my heart was not pumping enough blood into my body. I started to feeling much better implementing plant base diet and some additional natural supplements. In time my rate improved greatly, no more shortness of breath and sweats on my nose and forehead. I had more energy and motivation to do things, live life. But sadly due to the almost impossible opportunities to get good organic fruits and veggies I started again eating some foods that were not good. I still do fruits and veggies but not like before. Soon I started to revert to some of my old habits, with sad consequences. But I’m determined to improve and I was searching the web and KZbin for inspiration. Found it again!! Love your enthusiasm!! It’s sad that unhealthy food is all around us but I’ll have to travel an hour and a half away to shop for decent food. But it is what it is. I’m praying that there will be some serious changes, the food that is suppose to nourish our bodies are now killing us because of commerce. Thank you again, I will make immediate changes. Hope this is found by others and they are motivated, educated and inspired.

There was a story on NPR awhile back about a doctor writing prescriptions for vegetables. I don’t remember the details on how they were filled except that it was made easy for them. I like the pad you show in the video. My doctor pointed out where I’d find protein in the Daily Dozen list and when I saw 3 servings of beans a day, she had me. I rarely eat meat now, losing weight & have more energy.

Heart failure is what brought me to the WFPB lifestyle initially. I was strictly adherent for 2 years, all symptoms resolved. Now I eat meat just one weekend a month or less. The rest of the time, I eat WFPB on days I work and only add cheese and occasional egg on weekends. I actually enjoy this way of life MORE than when I ate the western diet exclusively. I still get to enjoy bad foods rarely (hot dogs on July 4, turkey on Thanksgiving, ham/cookies at Christmas), but I’ve learned to select my foods based on how I feel and substitute meat with beans, mushrooms, and/or tofu 90% of the time. I’ve also enjoyed the whole world of food, from Chinese to Ethiopian to Indian to Japanese plant based cuisine. My insistence on plant based foods much of the time has encouraged more plant based eating by my family, saved us money, and supported our health. Dr. Gregor was an indispensable resource for me for the past 5 years.

You don't have to go completely vegan.I'm 65 and had chest pain when exercising [working] two years ago.I didn't want to get involved in the medical system so I gave up all animal meat, all dairy eggs and sugar.I still eat a small amount of chicken as I find 100% vegan diet too demanding.Two years on and I have no chest pain whatsoever and my cholesterol has halved,much to my doctor's amazement.I swapped dairy milk for [calcium fortified] soya milk and use margarine.I now eat fresh fruit and vegetables,rice nuts and cereals and no processed food.My weight has dropped to nearer that when I was younger.I eat broccolli almost every day and a glass of red wine at dinner.I will never go back to my old diet because I know that will only be a shortcut to the graveyard for certain.

Could you please start working with cooking/food tv channels to start featuring vegan/plant based shows. I totally agree with you on the roll of the medical field promoting this type of eating, but some individuals only go to the doctor after they experience poor health. Carnival Eats, we could reach more people and start working towards a healthier lifestyle.

Yeah, let’s just watch it get worse. Overall health care for heart failure is really inadequate, and not good in international healthcare. It seems not to have a focus on prevention or stoping progression of damage or disease. In my case I can only get appointments or answered phone calls when symptoms increase. Crisis management. I am very proactive and have been doing research on my own from the beginning. I imagine it’s a problem with not enough trained providers, and a big patient load, which makes it all the more important to be your own advocate.

I was diagnosed with severe aortic stenosis 5 years ago. That is classified as severe heart disease. My doc said it is non reversible and that there is nothing i can do to reverse it (besides valve replacement surgery). I looked it up and its not non reversible, it only has not been proven to be reversible yet. Well I am on a mission to be the first one to reverse this. What am I doing? Low fat whole food plant based diet. Lots of intermittent fasting: eating in a 6 hour window daily, making sure I dont eat anything for 8 hours before going to sleep every night. I dont eat at all one day a week (just water). 20 min light cardio workout every morning in a fasted state, then a 30 min full spectrum infrared sauna after that with a drink of 2 TBS of apple cider vinegar during it. Thats a powerful combo. How do you "soften metals"? Heat. How do you chelate metals (calcium deposits). Vinegar. How do you get your body to remove unwanted stuff in the body? Fasting. Combine the 3 together (heat, vinegar & fasting) and you have a powerful synergistic effect of decalcification. On top of that, inside my sauna I have a near infrared lamp only a foot away from my heart so it gets heated up nicely during this process. I also do a steam room session an hour before bed for the best sleep possible. Lets hope for the best. I already feel like I am getting better! Also this is not medical info and I am not a doctor. Also the heat, vinegar & fasting combo is only a theory of mine that I hope will work.

Forgot to mention some other aspects of my diet: I ferment my own beans (natto) with a combination of organic soybeans and black turtle beans and eat about 250 grams a day of that (of course i take one day off a week of all food). I would love to hear Dr Greger do some videos on natto, it is the highest vitamin K2 source on the planet by far and helps keep calcium out of the blood, surprised he has not mentioned anything about that yet. 1 clove of garlic every day along with 3 bulbs of black garlic (the 2 together has synergistic effects). My only nut intake is 1 brazil nut a day (6 days a week of course). 1 TBS of cacao powder a day. I also eat a ton of greens, no starch (except the little bit in the beans), lots of berries, and other vegetables. 2 TBS of either chia seeds or ground flax seeds a day for omega 3. Definitely no oils. Oh yeah and Matcha green tea for the win :)

It was analyzing the EPIC-Oxford study where they weren't eating all that well to begin with. England's vegans are more "animal rights" oriented. The Adventists did a study and the risk lowers by 68% when the vegans ate sufficient calcium and protein. But vegans tend to be low in things like Vitamin D which are needed for bone health. Also, things like lowering osteoporosis through diet might help. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fmbUgJ5taqiAl68&ab_channel=NutritionFacts.org . The other factor is that vegans sometimes are too thin and being two thin affects fractures. Another factor I saw when I was studying the Adventists was that when people are thinner, in these elderly populations, the people walking the very elderly think they can handle their weight whereas with a heavier person, they are much more careful of falls and how the person was walked made a huge difference in the number of falls. Thinner people fall more out of health care professionals not understanding that.

Here is a link where being deficient in zinc and magnesium caused osteoporosis. No matter what, the EPIC-Oxford people were deficient and there have been a lot of studies where vegans were seriously deficient in B12 and D3 and DHA and being too low in Zinc is common. It has to be in balance. Don't mega-dose and mega-dosing has also been linked with fractures. More is not better but neither is being deficient. Low and High B12 is linked to fractures. www.bmj.com/rapid-response/2011/11/02/osteoporosis-usually-due-zinc-and-magnesium-not-calcium-deficiencies

Iodine is another big one. Vegans tend to be incredibly low in iodine and being low is linked to bone problems and thyroid problems. DISCLAIMER: this is only about heart failure for people with BLOCKAGES. That's only a subset of heart failure. People with actual heart muscle damage will not be be healed by any diet or movement whatsoever, since heart tissue cannot restore itself. You can only lessen the symptoms a bit, but not heal anything in that regard. (Added this since often people who talk about this topic are not disclosing this. I think they should be honest about this. People should go plant based, but not based on misunderstood or half information, since it can throw them of the diet again if they find out later. )

Isn't the heart a muscle? It is my understanding that muscles, with exercise, get strengthened. As is mentioned in many of the posts here, a WFPBD allowed them to get out and exercise once again.
@thanhdang2546

It is true that the damaged heart muscle cannot reverse, but WFPB may slow down the progression to death. WFPB helps the blood vessels to dilate, and hence adds more strength to drugs such as ACE inhibitor or Entresto. This reduces work load on the heart and prevent further damage and reduce the symptom.

I almost get sad when i see this vid. One of my best friends never exercises and is a big believer in the keto diet (and not the plant based version). I just think, what if he gets a heartattack due to his lifestyle? I have tried to talk some sense into him, but he stands by his views, that sugar or something is the enemy and that cholestrol and saturated fat never did the human race any harm. I would love to have him be open minded about a plant based diet and see the outcome of this diet so he could get healthier :(

To calm your mind. My dad is a heavy alcoholic for 30years. Eats 3out of 4 daily meals with high sat. Fat. He doesn't consider a meal without meat as a meal, he's not doing keto but eats the fattiest meat he can find. Never exercises. Blackout drunk 2-3x a week. 55,000 people studied... which only 2000 vegans in the group. 1) its a large sample against a small sample - distribution is imbalanced. 2) Age not accounted - you can't compare a 90yo vegan against 65yo meat eater 3) "Unidentified factors... Further study is needed" direct quote from research. Ex: unlikely to fall if you're on a wheelchair, bedridden or couch potato. Activity vs Age vs Circumstance not accounted. 4) Actual Diet not accounted - Not all Vegans eat the right food. 5) They combined egg, dairy and fish eaters with Vegans instead of the meat eaters - If you count egg/dairy/fish eater with meat eater (because egg/dairy/fish are animal protein), then the result would be the opposite - lower incidence with Vegans. 6) If you remove the egg/dairy/fish eaters (which belongs to meat eaters of animal protein) only then they can claim that from a small sample of 2,000 vegan against 29,000 meat eaters, the 43%. 7) Hidden agenda/ Propaganda - Media/press/documents did NOT wrote, "Meat eaters has lower incident of bone fractures" because egg/dairy/fish are considered animal protein. They removed and deducted the egg/dairy/fish eater numbers in order to write "Vegans have 43% higher percentage in bone fracture." 8) Overall, it is a weak research to claim "vegans have higher % in bone fracture" due to the skewed imbalanced distribution sample size, misrepresenting of groups/categories accounted and unidentified factors not accounted for. The numbers clearly showed from the research is that "Animal-Protein eaters have higher % in bone fracture than Vegans".

@hytrefde Brtfelyfra Yes, Study clearly stated "Unidentified factors... further studies needed." So, why claim, "Vegans have 43% higher percentage in bone fracture." ??? if further studies needed. Why Not, "Study of 53,000 Non-Vegans vs 2000 Vegans showed inconclusive results in bone fracture incidents." ??? If they need a shorter title/claim, "Inconclusive results from 55,000 elderly people with bone fractures." ??? How about, "Inconclusive results in elderly bone fractures, further studies needed." ??? Even being subtlety-deceptively-honest, "Insignificant findings between Vegans and Non-Vegans bone fractures, further studies needed." ??? I don't care much for conspiracies, BUT... right off the bat claimed, "Vegans have 43% higher..." ???

Great advice, but the lady who reversed her CHF after 5.5 months who started with an a1c of 8.1. Couldn't it have been that by cutting out the sugars and processed carbs she reversed it? I mean she could have achieved the same results from eating a carnivore diet? Am I wrong? Is it the fact she went plant based or was it that she stopped eating the trash standard American diet?

I'm not against a plant based diet, but as a Diabetic a lot of vegan or vegetarian dishes make my blood sugar spike. I seem to do good with mostly veggies and a little bit of meat. I worry also about nutrition a lot. Managing a vegan/vegetarian diet seems like a royal pain in the ass. What's the best way to make sure you're getting enough of the nutrients for you?
@tinker651
@tinker651 2 жыл бұрын
It can make your blood sugar spike for a few days, but stick to it. Low to no fat. Work with your Dr to get through the first few days, but your body does need a moment to switch back to being able to produce and uptake its own insulin again. Type 2 can be reversed on a whole food plant based diet minus SOS. Salt oil and sugar.
@microbeast83
@microbeast83 8 ай бұрын
What are you eating that spikes your blood sugar? Typically a WFPBD should not spike blood sugar. However wheat of all kinds including whole wheat can do this. Grains like Oats, Buckwheat, brown or even better wild rice, quinoa, beans, legumes and vegetables like sweet potatoes, squash, peas and plantains. But yea for some reason wheat is no good. I would like to add sourdough made with ancient grains like Kamut or Einkorn are exceptions. Sourdough bread uses good bacteria to pre digest the carbohydrates and this has an effect on the way our body metabolizes the grain. Look up the book called Wheat Belly. If you have any questions, just ask. I'm obsessed with my pursuit of knowledge in nutrition.
