Everything these docs say is 100% accurate and in my husband's case, provable. My husband had a massive heart attack on 3/17/ 2016 and lost 1/3 of his heart. He was a huge meat eater. After searching for my own answers and solutions, we flew to Michigan to see a plant based cardiologist who convinced my husband to give up all animal products. We went completely plant based after that and even though I was told by the hospital doctors that he may not be coming home 😢, here we are 6 years later and he's thriving...his carotid doppler went from >60% in 2017 to

Fantastic to hear that both you and your husband have had improved health. I’m using a plant based diet to lose 70lbs and improve my health. Three months in and I’ve lost about a stone and a half, still got a long way to go to lose weight, but I know this is the only way I’m going to be able to do it and improve my health. It’s always a motivator to hear other peoples success stories so thanks for sharing.

I’m 73 years old, seven months ago I had aortic valve replacement ( no fault of my own) and I’m doing great. I was in the hospital for four and a half day and was recovering very well. I lost about 15 pounds as well as my appetite but I force myself to eat healthy foods. Two weeks after my surgery I met with my cardiologist who told me my test were looking real good as well me. I ask my cardiologist if it was okay for me to have a hamburger and he said yes, remember when you took the angiogram your arteries were 100% clear, but don’t make it a habit. I say this because for the last twenty years I was exercising and eating healthy foods but after watching this video I’m going to change over to a plant base diet. You see, occasionally I would I would eat hamburgers, fries and chicken and although it wasn’t all the time it was still bad for me. I’ve been retired for eight years and still very active and the healthier I am the better off I’ll be. Exercising and eating healthy foods and through the grace of God I’m here to tell my story. Everyone, let’s not blow it we can do this. Thank you doctor and everyone take care.

I have been plant based for a year and after 5 weeks my chronic sinus allergies cleared up, i noticed my anxiety decreased after a few months, My cholesterol dropped 35 points after the first 3 months, my husband and I both lost weight and he didn’t develop his usual yearly kidney stone. It works beautifully but it is hard to stick to when we travel and because we are retired we have time to cook. I don’t think I could follow it if we worked.

I had a massive heart attack in Oct. 2022 They put a stint in & I have lived, so far. I do appreciate you letting me know what to eat. I had jaw pain & neck pain, no chest pain...the last straw was indigestion that lasted a week. I went to the emergency room to find out what to do to get rid of that indigestion! The stint took it away. Some of the foods that are bad, I was still eating. Until today!!!! thank you!!!! Judie

@Judy, Judy, Judy . . . I too suffered a heart attack back in October of 2022. The doctor placed two stents in my Left Anterior Descending artery I believe. I think they referred to it as the Widow Maker. I am super lucky to be alive . . . no doubt. My symptoms included pain in my upper back, both arms, difficulty breathing, sweating, etc. Glad to see/read you're doing well. I too am going to continue trying to eat differently to take care of my stents for as long as possible.

@delwoodkelp8590
@delwoodkelp8590 Жыл бұрын
how do you know you have "no plaque"? What kind of test did you take? Even a ZERO result on a CAC test doesn't mean you have "no plaque". Who told you that you have no palque? Even those in the Ornish studies did not remove the main plaque locations in their hearts.
@jacksns4

@@delwoodkelp8590 every Time I have a heart scan my score is zero. When the look at artery in my neck there is no plaque? Exercise a ton as a gym rat at 72 and been eating Fuhrman Nutritarian way of plant based eating for over 12 years.
@delwoodkelp8590
@delwoodkelp8590 Жыл бұрын
@@jacksns4 You are probably doing fine. However you ate " a normal diet" for the first 60 years of your life. Regarding "coronary" arteries it would be exceedingly rare to have "no soft plaque" at age 72. Exercise does not remove plaque. Nor will a Fuhrman Nutritarian diet remove more than a tiny fraction of existing soft plaque. (see the Ornish studies for a realistic report of how much "reversal" actually takes place. But the smaller amount of plaque you do have doesn't necessairly have to show up on a calcium score. Remember, it only shows calcified plaque, not soft plaque. Having said that, it appears you are in great shape. Just keep doing what you are doing and you'll prevent any danger. Removal or reversal of calcified plaque simply does not happen. Some soft plaque can be diminished in volume,, but soft plaque doesn't show up in a calcium scan. There is very little evidence of the reversal of any significan't amount of plaque from coronary arteries. No one goes from a 90% blockage down to a 50% blockage. The pipes don't get cleaned out. This myth of significant reversal is almost entirely hype. The studies don't confirm it but it makes great KZbin headlines. Halting progression of soft and calcified coronary plaque is a worthwhile goal and beneficial. Its just that the story line gets exaggerated and isn't backed up by the studies. All in all this is a good video by Dr. Barnard even though a few points can be questioned.

I think that would be healthy and doable because I still weigh at least 10/15 pounds more than I should and blood pressure is like yours was (with some meds, though I have been able to drop some.) The Mediterranean diet is misrepresented. What's never mentioned is the socio-economic context of the Keys study. Cretans in the 1950s had an overwhelmingly rural/agricultural life, i.e., lots of physical labour and mobility. Some of this movement was to forage wild greens -- a staple because it was cheap (free). Most also followed the Greek Orthodox calendar, which includes two fast days per week (no animal products or fish; it's basically vegan but honey is allowed, also some 'bloodless' seafood, eg octopus) and long fast periods throughout the year, usually before and after feasts where large quantities of food (meat, sweets) were consumed. Traditionally lunch was the main meal, with dinner consisting of a rusk or two plus a little fresh yogurt and herbal tea. Portions were also much smaller than what we eat today.

Ancil Keys is probably responsible for killing the most people in the western world for his botched study on saturated fat and cholesterol! He has a BA - Economics & PhD - Fish Physiology, so having this malcontent in charge of a heart and health study is laughable. He totally misinterpreted his data and did not look at the raw data in his studies/research. Healthy fats promote good health. Each cell needs cholesterol to survive and the Keys study demonized it. The statin companies are reaping record prophets worldwide, and stations only help 2%>3% of people at best. Watch Dr. David Diamond on cholesterol and see the true reality. There is a certain amino acid you cannot get out of a vegan diet - I will let you find out on your own. I have seen plenty of vegans and there were quite a few that are sluggish and appear to have brain fog. Good luck to any one on a 100% vegan diet!

There is evidence for an alternate theory of cardiovascular disease which is inflammation based. According to this, arterial inflammation can be caused partly by: 1. high omega six foods like vegetable seed oils which are also usually rancid (also inflammatory) because they are not saturated, and 2. continually high insulin levels from eating carbohydrates and eating too often. When the arterial inflammation starts, the body sends calcium and cholesterol (which the liver can make without you eating any) to the site to attempt a repair on the damage. This causes a blockage. We cannot simply evaluate foods as good or bad in a vacuum. For example, eating meat could aggravate the inflammation scenario above if you are also eating vegetable seed oils and carbs all day. If, however, you were eating meat and healthy saturated fats and avoiding carbs there would be no inflammation and your cholesterol levels would be irrelevant.

It is strange how we as humans can disconnect our metabolic diseases from our diets. We rationalize to ourselves that it is just a part of aging, stress, or genetics. Our addiction to our diet or lifestyle makes us search for other solutions rather than changing our diets and lifestyles. The prescription should not be more drugs to treat the symptoms but a whole food plant based diet to treat the cause of the disease and eliminate it.

Don't lose weight on a Mediterranean Diet? I switched to that several months ago and promptly lost about 35 lbs and dropped my LDL to under 50, and ate a good amount of chicken and wild salmon along the way. For me it has been much more than a "slight improvement". There is so much conflicting information out there from people and doctors with very rigid views (plant based vs keto) that the Mediterranean Diet seems like a good, healthy compromise.

My grandparents were neither vegetarian nor vegan and both lived well into their 90's (Grandma 97). They ate meat moderately and also included fruits and always lots of veggies (nearly always cooked). They were thin all their lives and never had a stroke, heart disease, hbp, or diabetes. Grandma did have varicose veins on her leg that slowed her down significantly in old age (after 80). Gramps even smoked into his 70's (not a heavy smoker). He gave it up on the advice of his doctor and he still lived to be 93! We always said that if he hadn't smoked, he probably would have lived to the century mark or better. Gramps was golfing and bowling into his mid 80s. Anyway, all their eating was done in moderation which I think is the key. They did not eat junk food or snack all day. Did not drink sugar laden drinks. They did drink Coke but at that time Coke did not include a ton of corn syrup like it does today. They liked to get up and move, get up and do things like make repairs around the house. Grandma constantly gardened, cleaned the house and cooked or baked. Neither exercised. Grandma used butter and oil in a lot of her meals --- most of the time corn oil but sometimes olive oil. They also ate "organ" meats like beef liver quite often and grandma included raw garlic in nearly all of her cooking so that might have something to do with their longevity.

My dear friend same great story as others noted on this great youtube video. His HDL decreased, LDL increased, all other markers for excellent heart/artery health improved after he went on the Ornish heart health diet similar to Dr. Barnard and Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn. With 100,000's of N. American's having sudden passings from cardiology pathologies while exercising/working/on the bus largely due to restricted blood flow causing no blood to the heart. It is essential for a long life to 100 plus ie. Okinawa Japan 120 is a reality ect.. My friend Shima's grandma is 106 in perfect health works ect.. in Okinawa. I am now very dedicated to eating the way Dr. Esselstyn recommends.

It is important to remember that we do not tend to eat raw sugar on its own. We make it naughty and palatable by adding oil and salt or far worse---dairy and eggs. For example, a donut is not so much sugar as it is fat. Another way of understanding that sugar is not much the enemy as everything from our brain to our cells are fueled by sugar. Especially, intact sugar from whole plant foods.

5 years ago I watched Forks over Knives and it had a very profound impact on my life. I immediately changed my diet for the better. I gave up all meats and oils, a 110% plant base diet for a year. My numbers and vitals were rocking nice. As time went on my cognitive abilities started to suffer. As a ups driver in Colorado to remember addresses and locations by memory is extremely important. I started to fail and lag behind on my route and got written up twice for mis deliveries. As much as I hated I was told by a doctor to get fat back into my diet,my brain was suffering because it's made of fat and burns alot of fat daily. What do you doctors recommend for brain health for a plant base diet...it's almost like either or in these diet choices.

2 table spoons of ground flax seeds a day. Or even better, a mix of flax, chia and canabis seeds. All grounded. Your brain needs tiny quantities of omega 3 which can all be found in those seeds. And in walnuts too. Your brain is not only made of fat. It runs mostly on sugars.

Be sure to take a B-12 supplement (sublingual- chew, or melt under the tongue) every day. The only thing vegans cannot get in their diet, alone, is sufficient B-12. (Jarrow has a Methyl- B-12 1000 mcg that is decent, and inexpensive.) Also, Vitamin D-3, and Omega 3's are important.

At the moment I say that I am feeling good . So .. just plants based diet strictly and b12 . And vitamin D in the winter because I live in Denmark 🇩🇰. When I eat bread I grind grains myself, and instead of yeast I use fermented apple juice, also I am doing bread from cornmeal. No oil no nut! I am sorry because they didn’t say anything about patients with bypass or stents who are following plants based diet without any medication 😪

I have been listening and I feel I must speak up. I ran in the information about the precursor to a heart attack is inflammation and that cholesterol is really just the bodies bandaid. 1st of all I need to tell you several things so you know enough background to be as puzzled as I am. I am part of the Adventist Health Study to start with. I am not sure where to start but I finally decided that things that were causing inflammation were what was damaging my arteries. I don’t do or use any of the following: smoke, drink alcohol, used fat or oils, use cheese, white rice, white bread to name most of the things that are bad for you. I DO drink about 32 oz of water or more a day. Use lots of fruit and veggies some bread but the healthiest I can find. Don’t life sugar or sugared cereal, coffee or tea aren’t used either nor are any caffeine products. Basically I live and eat very healthy but I found I didn’t like the way I was feeling even though it very slightly off. EKG is always fine and I got all the way through the treadmill test except for the comparison reading of blood flow before and after the test before they found a problem but whenI got through with the treadmill test I was told I was fine. The call the next morning was “you have a slight abnormality and we want you to go to the CATH Lab. They thought by then that I had a 70% blockage of the LAD but it was 90%. They opened it up to 50% but I am now looking for what started the blockage to start with and I am vey aware of what is happening to me. I was getting some heart burn but I have acid reflux anyway and they tried to make it quit. I had a burn on the left side of my neck and the soft side of my upper arm and no pain at all. I can’t use shortness of breath to decide I am having a heat attack be cause I have asthma and Hasimoto as well. I was having a heart attack and when I was at the heart Dr office I was also having a heat attack too but only slight symptoms. A week later they found. the “widow makes “,and other blockages too. When my heat would not be getting enough blood flow and I would get the Prickles and a touch of numbness on the little finger side of my right hand that could reach all the way to the tip of that finger and even across to the tips of some of the other finger tips and that was the only indication I was having a heart attack. I have learned to slow way down so my heart gets enough blood flow and then I am OK but it is a wonder that I didn’t become one of those sudden death cases. I picked up pneumonia (both sides, all three lobes) and H1N1 from the hospital and had 2 documented heart attacks while on the heart monitor with basically no symptoms. That was almost 2.5 years ago and I have been working very hard to clear out my arteries but if I had decided I didn’t feel quite right I likely would have been walking to fast and just died of a massive heart attack but I listen very carefully to what is going on. I am not the only female this has happened to that I know. Hospital food is not good for heart patients at all, not even the cows milk. I am opening up my arteries a little at a time but it is a slow process but I have not been using oils since before 1985. Nothing even gave me a clue that I had a problem or what was causing it so my not liking the “burn” is likely what saved my life so they could at least find I had a problem. I live about as healthy as you can! I thought I should share my case since even as careful as I live and eat I have serious issues that you would never guess were there. I hopes this saves someone else’s life and that you catch it

Try intermittent fasting, because this will give your body time to get rid of toxins and heal. Stop eating all sugars! Sugar is not a natural food for our bodies. This includes honey and also fructose in fruit. If you eat a fruit just eat berries only. I highly suggest you watch the KZbin video Sugar the Bitter Truth by Robert H. Lustig, MD, UCSF Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology, explores the damage caused by sugary foods. Yet again, how sad 😢 that, contrary to many health improvement KZbin programs, the Exam Room rarely provides in its Description section the names and links to studies referred to in your program. In this program Dr. Bernard refers to studies on the Mediterranean Diet, studies by Dr Esselstyn and Dr. Ornish - but in the Description section there is not a SINGLE reference or link to any of these studies. The Exam Room can have a much greater impact if in EACH of its programs it will identify and give the links to key studies mentioned in each program. This way viewers can provide documentation to their physicians as well as provide solid evidence to viewers, including health care professionals. Thank you!!!
